No. of bitstreams: 1 arquivototal.pdf: 2393348 bytes, checksum: eb5e15f967b00de08e5ce2781413ffd5 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-02-17 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Seeking to meet the electricity demand in Brazil, power plants, industries and businesses showed an increase in consumption of natural gas by 17.5% between 2013 and 2014 (RESENHA ENERGÉTICA BRASILEIRA, 2015). Most of these facilities use generators for electricity through natural gas. Such groups are formed generally by a Diesel engine coupled to an electric generator. The engines of these groups may be classified as aspirated or turbocharged. It is known, moreover, that the gaseous emissions generated by the Diesel engine, make replaced by clean fuels such as natural gas, an attractive alternative. Converstion of Diesel engines for the Otto cycle, may be an option for generating electricity from natural gas, mainly because it is a low cost compared to the price of gas gensets technology. However, in turbocharged engines converted to natural gas, are identified during operations, temperatures higher than those allowed in the turbine, limiting thus the possibility of reaching the rated power of these motors. The use, however, a heat exchanger gives rise to a Diesel engine converted to Otto cycle work without restriction in all its power domain. This paper examines the issues related to the choice of a heat exchanger, construction, installation and the results of its operation in a motor Perkins turbocharged converted to Otto cycle for natural gas. In performance tests, we used a hydraulic dynamometer, with a maximum of 500 hp capacity. All tests were performed with the rotation set at 1800 RPM, for all powers of labor, including the original maximum power that had diesel, stand-by time of 153 cv (112.4 kW). The maximum thermal efficieny of the engine was 39.1 % for 153 cv power. The NOx and CO levels, were, respectively, 348 ppm and 3.48 % when the engine is operated at power of 153 cv. The effectiveness of the introduced heat exchanger ranged between 33 and 33.7 %.

Deep water Gulf of Mexico pore pressure estimation utilizing P-SV waves from multicomponent seismic in Atlantis Field

Kao, Jeffrey Chung-chen 08 September 2010 (has links)
Overpressure, or abnormally low effective pressures, is hazardous in drilling operations and construction of sea-bottom facilities in deepwater environments. Estimation of the locations of overpressure can improve safety in these operations and significantly reduce overall project costs. Propagation velocities of both seismic P and S wave are sensitive to bulk elastic parameters and density of the sediments, which can be related to porosity, pore fluid content, lithology, and effective pressures. Overpressured areas can be analyzed using 4C seismic reflection data, which includes P-P and P-SV reflections. In this thesis, the effects on compressional (P) and shear (S) wave velocities are investigated to estimate the magnitude and location of excess pore pressure utilizing Eaton’s approach for pressure prediction (Eaton, 1969). Eaton’s (1969) method relates changes in pore pressure to changes in seismic P-wave velocity. The underlying assumption of this method utilizes the ratio of observed P-wave velocity obtained from areas of both normal and abnormal pressure. This velocity ratio evaluated through an empirically determined exponent is then related to the ratio of effective stress under normal and abnormal pressure conditions. Effective stress in a normal pressured condition is greater than the effective stress value in abnormally overpressured conditions. Due to an increased sensitivity of variations in effective pressure to seismic interval velocity, Ebrom et al. (2003) employ a modified Eaton equation to incorporate the S-wave velocity in pore pressure prediction. The data preparation and subsequent observations of seismic P and S wave velocity estimates in this thesis represent a preliminary analysis for pore pressure prediction. Six 2D receiver gathers in the regional dip direction are extracted from six individual ocean-bottom 4C seismic recording nodes for P-P and P-SV velocity analysis. The receiver gathers employed have minimal pre-processing procedures applied. The main processing steps applied were: water bottom mute, 2D rotation of horizontal components to SV and SH orientation, deconvolution, and frequency filtering. Most the processing was performed in Matlab with a volume of scripts designed by research scientists from the University of Texas, Bureau of Economic Geology. In this thesis, fluid pressure prediction is estimated utilizing several 4C multicomponent ocean-bottom nodes in the Atlantis Field in deepwater Gulf of Mexico. Velocity analysis is performed through a ray tracing approach utilizing P-P and P-SV registration. A modified Eaton’s Algorithm is then used for pore pressure prediction using both P and S wave velocity values. I was able to successfully observe both compressional and shear wave velocities to sediment depths of approximately 800 m below the seafloor. Using Hamilton (1972, 1976) and Eberhart-Phillips et al. (1989) regressions as background depth dependent velocity values and well-log derived background effective pressure values from deepwater Gulf of Mexico, I am able to solve for predicted effective pressure for the study area. The results show that the Atlantis subsurface study area experiences a degree of overpressure. / text

Sísmica de reflexão rasa multicomponente: Aquisição e inversão de tempos de trânsito e amplitudes / Shallow multicomponent reflection seismic: Acquisition, amplitude and traveltime inversion

Oleg Bokhonok 25 February 2011 (has links)
This thesis aims to evaluate the useful of the multicomponent seismic methods for shallow investigations, mainly its potential for the geotechnical and geological characterization of the nearsurface. Several aspects regarding the acquisition and processing data of multicomponent seismic data are discussed. They were based on data set acquired in the urban area of Sao Paulo city, Brazil. Two different areas were investigated. Both located in sedimentary terrains belonging to the Sao Paulo Sedimentary Basin. We present a non-linear travel time and seismic amplitude inversion scheme to quantitative interpretation of multicomponent seismic data. Several tests were performed to guide the choice of non-hyperbolic equation more suitable for travel time inversion aiming the velocity analysis above the reflector. A numerical experiment developed to solve the nonlinear inversion of seismic amplitudes showed the feasibility to estimate seismic interval velocities and layer densities above and below the reflector using the exact Zoeppritz equations for PP, PSv, SvP e SvSv reflected waves, before and after critical angle. Due to the apparent complexity of the nonlinear seismic amplitude inversion, it was necessary elaborate the strategy for stochastic optimization and develop a new approach to analyze the multi-dimensional objective function, with different implications for the accuracy and efficiency of the non-linear inversion. The study show the benefits of using the multicomponent seismic method for shallow geological-geotechnical characterization, improving the nearsurface understanding, once allows an integrated analyzes of a more complete record of the wave field.

Delineation of the Nootka fault zone and structure of the shallow subducted southern Explorer plate as revealed by the Seafloor Earthquake Array Japan Canada Cascadia Experiment (SeaJade)

Hutchinson, Jesse 25 May 2020 (has links)
At the northern extent of the Cascadia subduction zone, the subducting Explorer and Juan de Fuca plates interact across a translational deformation zone, known as the Nootka fault zone. The Seafloor Earthquake Array Japan-Canada Cascadia Experiment (SeaJade) was designed to study this region. In two parts (SeaJade I and II, deployed from July – September 2010 and January – September 2014), seismic data from the SeaJade project has led to several important discoveries. Hypocenter distributions from SeaJade I and II indicate primary and secondary conjugate faults within the Nootka fault zone. Converted phase analysis and jointly determined seismic tomography with double-difference relocated hypocenters provide evidence to several velocity-contrasting interfaces seaward of the Cascadia subduction front at depths of ~4-6 km, ~6-9 km, ~11-14 km, and ~14-18 km, which have been interpreted as the top of the oceanic crust, upper/lower crust boundary, oceanic Moho, and the base of the highly fractured and seawater/mineral enriched veins within oceanic mantle. During SeaJade II, a MW 6.4 mainshock and subsequent aftershocks, known as the Nootka Sequence, highlighted a previously unidentified fault within the subducted Explorer plate. This fault reflects the geometry of the subducting plate, showing downward bending of the plate toward the northwest. This plate bend can be attributed to negative buoyancy from margin parallel mantle flow induced by intraslab tearing further northwest. Seismic tomography reinforces the conclusions drawn from the Nootka Sequence hypocenter distribution. Earthquakes from the entire SeaJade II catalogue reveal possible rotated paleo-faults, identifying the former extent of the Nootka fault zone from ~3.5 Ma. / Graduate

ZANETTO, DANIELA 15 April 2014 (has links)
The recent reform of the labour market (law n. 92/2012)has also modified the regulation of the profit sharing agreement with labour supply. The aim was to fight the misuse of this form of contract, which often conceals genuine employment relationships. The above - mentioned reform has been partially corrected by the recent decree law n. 76/2013, converted into law n. 99/2013, in order to attenuate some rigidities. The doctoral dissertation is aimed at analysing the profit sharing agreement as a whole, starting from its origin and commercial regulation. Secondly it focuses on labour law and social security aspects of the schemes that involve the supply of human labour in exchange for the partipation in the profit sharing. Finally it focuses on the recent above - mentioned law reforms.
