THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN BURNOUT AND ROLE STRESSORS AMONG DIRECT SERVICE PROVIDERS AT CENTERS FOR INDEPENDENT LIVING IN REGION V

The purpose of this study is to determine the levels of burnout and role stresses among direct service providers at centers for independent living in Region V, and investigate the relationship between burnout and role stressors among the population. Results showed that the respondents have average level of emotional exhaustion, high level of depersonalization, and low level of personal accomplishment in categorization of MBI scores. When comparing with the MBI-HSS normative samples, it indicated that these providers experience higher burnout than overall samples and the sample in social services. The obtained results supported the previous view that CIL management problems including low salaries, high staff turnover, insufficient resources, excessive caseload, unsatisfactory reward, or general lack of control over job tasks and responsibilities that may effect to high burnout.

An Investigation Of The Relationship Between Counseling Self-efficacy And Counselor Wellness Among Counselor Education Students

Recent research in counselor training has focused on the difficulties and challenges facing counseling practitioners that result in high stress, burnout, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and counselor impairment. The American Counseling Association's (ACA) Code of Ethics has addressed the ethical issues inherent in counselor impairment. Further, the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP) has focused on the development of counselors that will assist them in being resilient to workplace stressors. Wellness is a theoretically based construct that holds much promise for bolstering the resilience of pre-service counselors. In addition, counselor self-efficacy has been linked to greater advocacy for self and others, the use of higher order counseling skills, greater problem solving practice, and more self-regulated, ethical decision making. This study was designed to investigate the relationship between counselor self-efficacy and counselor wellness. A total of 88 participants completed both the Five Factor Wellness Evaluation of Lifestyle Inventory and the Counseling Self-Efficacy Scale. Demographic and descriptive statistics were included along with a Multiple Regression Analysis. Results did not indicate a statistically significant relationship. Potential limitations, implications for counselor educators, and future research directions were elucidated.

The Effect Of Structured Peer Consultation Program On Different Dimensions Of School Counselor Burnout

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Structured Peer Consultation Program on different dimensions of school counselors&#039 / burnout, namely, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment. Pretest and posttest experimental control group design was used to investigate the effect of the Structured peer Consultation Program on different dimensions of burnout. To determine the percipients of the experimental and control groups Maslach Burnout Inventory was administered 55 out of a total 96 school counselors in gaziantep. 8 counselors who had higher than means score in the different dimensions of burnout participated voluntarily in the Structured Peer Consultation program as an experimental group. 8 counselors were selected as a control group. While the program was being applied to the experimental group, the control group did not receive any treatment. The Structured Peer Consultation Program continued for five weeks. In the program the meetings were held once a week and lasted for 90 minutes. One-way analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test for significant treatment effect of the Structured Peer Consultation Program on different dimensions of burnout. The result of ANCOVA indicated that ANCOVAs examining treatment effect were significant on dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment of burnout. It seems that there was a significant improvement in the experimental group&#039 / s burnout level compared to the control group&#039 / s burnout level. At the end of the study the findings were discussed with the relevant studies and recommendations were presented.

Factors Contributing to Burnout Levels Among Public Sector Rehabilitation Counselors

Burnout has led to turnover and poor counselor performance within public sector rehabilitation. Scholarly literature on burnout among mental health counselors and school counselors are abundant. However, few researchers have compiled studies to evaluate burnout among rehabilitation counselors. No research could be found that examined the relationships among job demand, control, support, and burnout among public sector rehabilitation counselors. The Job Demand Control- Support (JDC-S) model indicates that stress from work is developed based on work demands, perceptions of control, and the perceived support that is received. The purpose of this research study was to determine the extent of the prediction, if any, between burnout and job demand, job control, and job support for public sector rehabilitation counselors. This study examined the following research question through a multiple linear regression: Job demand, job control, and job support (as measured by subscales of the Karasek and Theorell Job Content Questionnaire) predicts burnout (as measured by the Maslach Burnout Inventory) among public sector rehabilitation counselors. Instruments used in the study included the Job Content Questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory. An electronic questionnaire was sent to 1,000 certified rehabilitation counselors throughout the United States;197 were returned. The results of this study suggest that there is a likelihood of a lower risk of stress because of high autonomy on the job. Moreover, there was a significant prediction between burnout (as described by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and personal accomplishment) to job demand, job control, and job support. Results of the study may contribute to social change through increasing the wellness of counselors within the public rehabilitation counseling sector, which, in turn, could lead to improvement in the quality of services for clients.
