Development and Validation of a Spanish Nutrition Screening Tool for Hispanic American 3 to 5-Year-OldsArias Olivas, Denisse 07 April 2023 (has links)
Latinos comprise 18.9% of the population in the United States and are the largest and fastest growing minority group. Obesity prevalence was 26.2% among Hispanic children compared to 16.6% among non-Hispanic White children. The obesity epidemic among Latino children has been growing rapidly over the past three decades. Multiple barriers, such as lack of culturally appropriate screening tools, language, and lack of access to nutritional assessment and expert consultation, prevents screening of Latino children and further nutritional guidance. For this reason, prevention efforts such as the use of nutritional screening tools is required for early intervention, more so with populations such as Hispanics that are already at higher risk. To prevent the further divide and increased prevalence of obesity, malnutrition, and food insecurity within this group, it is necessary to develop validated, reliable, and culturally competent screening tools that consider the population cultural background. While nutritional screening tools exist and have been validated in English and even translated into Spanish, there are distinct cultural and geographic eating patterns associated with different diet-related disease rates. As we recognize different benefits and results from varying diets, this leads to the conclusion that differing cultural dietary practices present within the Hispanic population in the United States require more than just a translation of existing validated screening tools. The purpose of this project is to develop a Spanish nutrition screening tool for 3-5-year-old children to be used by Spanish-speaking parents in community settings, to appropriately address malnutrition risk factors with cultural sensitivity. To achieve validity of this screening tool, this study had two phases. Phase 1 established face and content validity and phase 2 established criterion validity. This paper will focus on criterion validity. The Spanish nutrition screening tool results were compared to the dietitian assessment risk rating classification using Chi-Square to determine the sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive value of the screening tool. After a comparison between the nutritional assessment and the nutrition screening tool, the tool proved to have a sensitivity of 91.67% and a specificity of 81.48%.

Approximation of Analytic Functions by Faber Polynomials, the Grunsky Matrix, and a Univalence CriterionFarag, Mina January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is derive a set of polynomials defined on simply connected domains, the Faberpolynomials, in which all analytic function on the domain can be uniformly approximated. Importantconcepts and theorems such as isomorphisms, automorphisms and the Riemann mapping theorem areintroduced. Examples and applications are also included. Furthermore, the thesis will aim to introducean important consequence of the Faber polynomials, the method of the Grunsky inequalities. The first section introduces important properties of analytic functions and the concept of isomor-phisms, in particular the form of all automorphisms of the unit disc will be derived. The second sectionconsiders the Riemann mapping theorem, a theorem that relates any simply connected region that is notall of ℂ to the unit disc. A proof of the theorem beginning with the Arzelá-Ascoli theorem is provided. An application in constructing harmonic functions on arbitrary simply connected regions will be pre-sented. In the third section, definitions and properties of the Faber polynomials are developed; followedby simple examples. The section concludes with a proof and example of the statement that analyticfunctions can be approximated by Faber polynomials. In the fourth and last section of the thesis, themethod of Grunsky inequalities is presented. Starting off, the Grunsky coefficients are defined using theFaber polynomials. Properties of Grunsky coefficients such as the symmetry property and the Grunskyinequalities are then derived. To conclude it will be shown that the Grunsky inequalities provide aunivalence criterion for analytic functions defined on the unit disc.

Ny betygsskala- för elevernas bästa?Hansson, Joachim January 2010 (has links)
This essay is a study of the government bills for a new grading scale in the Swedish schools. There have been many complaints about the current grading scale and the main problem seems to be that teachers are interpreting the criteria for certificates differently. There are two major challenges for Swedish teachers, one is how to interpret the criteria for certificates, the other one is the equality problem , students can not be sure of that two different teachers would give the same grades. The main point of the essay is to try to find out whether the new grading scale will solve this problem. To my help I have made an analysis of the bills of the Swedish government for the new grading scale. I have used two theories in my essay to help me in my analysis; these theories are radical behaviourism and cognitive theory. The conclusions of my analysis are that the new grading scale and the new criteria for certificates will not make the problems with interpretation to disappear. I have also found out that the government in its writings tends to use more of the ideas of the radical behaviourism than before. This leads to a mixture of both behavioural and cognitive thoughts about knowledge in the government bills for a reformed school. This might partly explain the difficulties with constructing more useable criteria for certificates.

Influence of Plastic Straining on a Yield CriterionGursahani, Mohan January 1970 (has links)
<p> A yield criterion depending on stress, strain and their histories is revised so as to achieve better correlation with experimental data. It is shown that this simple criterion exhibits a reasonable Bauschinger effect. Theoretical expressions for revised yield stresses for two different types of tests are derived for this function. </p> <p> The purpose of the experimental work in this thesis was to determine the degree of correlation between the proposed function and experimental data. Two types of tests were carried out. The first test was essentially for evaluating the constants appearing in the yield criterion. These values of constants were then used to predict the gross tensile stress-strain curves for specimens cut from sheets which had undergone plastic bending in one direction and contained residual stresses prior to tensile loading. An approximate method to calculate these residual stresses is also outlined. </p> <p> Conclusions are deduced by comparing the experimental and theoretical results for these tests and suggestions are made for future research. </p> / Thesis / Master of Engineering (ME)
