Gaming and Gender: Home as a Place of (Non)conformity for Women Gamers

Todd, Cherie J January 2009 (has links)
This research examines interactive multimedia video games that are played on technological devices such as: computers, gameboys, PlayStation, Portable PlayStation (PSP) and Xbox. Particular attention is paid to women 30 years of age and older, who engage in gaming activities whilst at home. This is a particularly useful group of women to investigate because it opposes stereotypical and gender-normative notions of what it means to be a 'woman at home'. Also, to the best of my knowledge, there have not been any previous studies conducted that explore this particular group in relation to geographies of home. There is an ever expanding body of literature that focuses on 'home' and the meanings that are associated with it. This research represents an attempt to seek a new way of understanding the mutually constitutive relationship between women, home, and gaming by drawing on feminist and poststructuralist theories of identities, place and space. In this thesis, I argue that there are various ways in which women's identities can become blurred by their engagements with cyber/space, and that gaming is an activity which facilitates levels of empowerment for women within the home.

Viešieji e. pirkimai ir jų teisinis reglamentavimas Lietuvoje / Public e. procurement and its legal reglamentation in Lithuania

Sokolinskaja, Agata 19 December 2006 (has links)
Public procurement system is a very important part of economy of every European country. National budgets spend almost 30% of its money on public sector procurements as well as other public spending. That is why it is very important every country has a goal of spending its money rationally and cutting its costs as much as possible. It is believed that the new e-procurement system would save at least 75 billion euros in Europe, and around 250 million litas of Lithuanian budget. The basis of public e. procurement law is set in the directory of European Parliament and Council, 2004/17/EB (directory of public procurement, water, energy, transport and post services coordination), and 2004/18/EB (directory that coordinates work services, goods and public sector procurement agreements). All these above mentioned directories are provided in Public Procurement law of Lithuania, on December 15, 2005. All European Union countries are undergoing the process of implementing public e. procurement system. New information systems of public procurement, central Web portals, the Procurement Monitoring Bureaus are being created. On 2004, April 25, EU Commission has set a goal in Communique of implementing a plan of action of public e. procurement system until 2010 in Europe. The main purpose - until the year 2010, public e. procurement process should be done 100% electronically (practically at least 50% of whole procurement system). Nigeria: Cyber Space Security vis a vis Computerisation, Miniaturisation and Location-Based Authentication

Adeka, Muhammad I., Ngala, Mohammad J., Bin-Melha, Mohammed S., Ibrahim, Embarak M., Shepherd, Simon J., Elfergani, Issa T., Hussaini, Abubakar S., Elmegri, Fauzi, Abd-Alhameed, Raed 21 May 2015 (has links)
No / The degree of insecurity occasioned by fraudulent practices in Nigeria has been of great concern economically, especially as it relates to overseas transactions. This paper was designed to mitigate this problem for Nigeria and countries with similar dispositions. Based on a survey involving field trip to Nigeria, the paper examines the general security situation in Nigeria and its mutual impacts with computerisation, miniaturisation and Location-Based Authentication (LBA). It was discovered that both computerisation and miniaturisation had some negative effects on cybersecurity, as these were being exploited by fraudsters, especially using ‘advance fee fraud;’ popularly called 419. As a countermeasure, the research examined the possibility of using LBA and further digitisation of the GSM Mobile country codes down to City/Area codes along with GSM Mobile/Global Positioning System (GPS) authentications. Where necessary, these could be combined with the use of a web-based Secret Sharing Scheme for services with very high security demands. The anticipated challenges were also examined and considered to be of negligible impacts; especially roaming. / Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF)

Transforming missions : mission strategy and cyber space. Research on the use of cyber space in transforming the mission of the South Korean church in 21st century

Kim, Ho Yun 13 June 2012 (has links)
The present generation lives in the new information age as a result of rapid computer developments and the accessibility of the internet. Therefore, in the 21st century the world has to come to grips with the cyber space culture. Internet connections in South Korea, as in many countries in the world, make access to the world available in every house. Therefore, it is a necessity to understand the internet culture and internet is becoming part of everyday life. However, at the beginning of the 21st century, the most important attribute of the mission is missio Dei: the mission is God’s mission. God is a missionary God and mission has its origin in God. And finally, God also calls people as missionaries to share his love with the world. According to Bosch (1991:368-372), our daily life has become so fast and constantly changing that we cannot use past methods to be effective today. Therefore we need a paradigm shift in our thinking towards missions today, to become more relevant. There is a need for the church to understand this paradigm shift, and implement it into its thinking and practice of mission. Cyber mission is becoming important in the information age, and there are many advantages and disadvantages to it. These advantages are to be managed carefully. It is the church's responsibility to use cyber space to the advantage of God's Kingdom. The opening up of cyber space may prove to be a gift from God to his church today. Many Christians began to share their faith with others in cyber space through the internet and internet evangelism and cyber missions were born. Today, the internet has become one of the available means of sharing and proclaiming the Gospel. It offers us incredible power to share the Good News. The Christian has the great responsibility to the great commission to deliver the gospel to the end of the earth through the cyber Mission. The South Korean church became a strong Christian church, ranking as the second missionary sending country in the world of today. The South Korean church developed the cyber mission, as they realized the power of the internet. Most of the churches have their own web site and they have already started to use the cyber space for church ministry. / Thesis (PhD)--University of Pretoria, 2012. / Science of Religion and Missiology / unrestricted

The study intends to analyze such spaces on a course that has communicative support tools interacting with communicative peculiarities of the cyber-space, by means of different agents visions teachers and pupils as well as verifying how the relations-interactions of those that act in the educative process happen in this type of teachers development, identifying/pointing out such interactions and considering the hypothesis that, although the physical presence of teacher and pupils at the same time and space, does not guarantee the availability of those who act in order to do necessaries interactions to the professional development of the professor. The development in a virtual environment, the proper conditions to promote exchanges and interactions suffer time and space alterations that certainly have impacts on the interactions nature among the agents in this type of long distance process of formation. In this research it has been use as reference, theoretical authors dedicated to long distance education studies. (Aretio, Moran, Neto and Keegan, among others) and authors that has focused on the educational teachers formation process as well as the construction of teachers lecturing knowledge (Walter, Candido, Garcia, Tardif, Nunes andMarin, among others). The procedures of this research for the collection of data held in the years 2008 and 2009 include the use of a questionary applied to 21 pupils from a long distance Pedagogy Course, interviews with 1 monitor (local-tutor) and 1 teacher (web-tutor), besides register and documents analyses and observation of the interactions situations existent during the course. The obtained results are presented by synthesis tables, describing: long distance course of teachers formation context and profile, who of the investigated people (pupils, teachers or web-tutors and monitors or local-tutors) and what they say about the Course and the interaction situations within / Trata-se de uma pesquisa empírica sobre os espaços de interação existentes num curso de formação de professores para educação básica curso de Pedagogia, na modalidade à distância.

Vliv kybernetického terorismu na americkou bezpečnostní politiku / The Influence of Cyber Terrorism Threat on the American Security Policy

Rezek, Tomáš January 2015 (has links)
(English) The aim of this dissertation is to answer the question of whether the U.S. security policy is influenced by the threat of cyber terrorism. The dissertation is divided into chapters that can be regarded as steps in a logical reasoning process. In the first chapter, cyber space is introduced and described to illustrate its importance and complexity. The next chapter analytically compares various definitions of terrorism, and partially rejects the initial hypothesis that cyber terrorism is not included in the general definition of terrorism. The following chapter statistically analyzes the available data on terrorist groups and terrorist attacks to empirically confirm the hypothesis that terrorism is still a real threat to American security. The analysis actually proves that the threat of terrorism has not decreased in relation to the number of terrorist groups. It also shows that the number of terrorist attacks against the U.S. targets has significantly decreased in the United States, while terrorist actions have been increasing constantly on a global level. The analysis shows that the success rate of terrorists attacks does not form a time series, and therefore each terrorist attack has to be examined individually to assess its success probability. The following analysis reviews the...

At the crossroads of social transformation : an Eastern-European theological perspective

Augustine, Daniela Christova 11 1900 (has links)
The present work examines the crossroads of social transformation from the contextual standpoint of the "Second World" - a political and socioeconomic term descriptively pointing to the unique location of the Former Eastern-European Block countries - in between worlds. The work involves in a dialogue some of the major trends within the contemporary Eastern-European philosophical environment: dichotomized between Neo-Marxism and Neo-Freudianism on the one hand, and Postmodernism on the other. While examining the most significant elements between the dialectical paradigms for social change of the above theories (and their ethical foundations), the text strives towards a theological paradigmatic formulation for an authentic social transformation that draws its dialectical content and passion from the hopeful eschatological vision of Christ and the Kingdom as an embodiment of the Christian alternative for human emancipation and liberation. In light of this, the work attempts to establish the following thesis: the radical Christian praxis of the eschatological reality of the Kingdom in light of the Cross is the Church’s alternative to contemporary philosophies and initiatives for social transformation. This praxis affirms the revolutionary, history-shaping force which makes Christianity relevant to the problems of Modernity and Postmodernity through its self-identification with the Crucified God. It marks the moment of conception of an authentic, liberating, life giving, transforming hope as a source of humanization and redemption of social order. Christianity is concerned with the birth and formation of a new socio-political reality - the Kingdom of God, and its embodiment on earth (through the Holy Spirit) in a new ethnos: the Church, the Body of Christ, the communion of the saints. Therefore, it is the Church's calling and obligation to exemplify the reality of the Kingdom, being a living extension of the living Christ and thus, the incarnation of the eschatological future of the world and its hopeful horizon in the midst of the present. Recognizing the vital need for a relevant Christian response to the spiritual demands of the Post-modern human being and his/her desacralized, pluralistic socio political context, the work concludes with a conceptual outline offering a strategy for the Church in the Postmodern setting. / Philosophy, Practical & Systematic Theology / D.Th.
