Momentbelastade stål-till-KLträanslutningar för utomhusmiljöer / Moment-loaded steel-to-cross-laminated timber (CLT)connections for outdoor applicationsAkbari, Shafiqa, Mohseni, Zara January 2024 (has links)
Rapid climate changes have increased the importance of environmental concerns, particularly within the construction industry, which faces substantial challenges to reduceits environmental footprint. Shifting from high-emission building materials to sustainablealternatives stands as a critical strategy to reduce climate impact. Previous studiesdemonstrate that timber structures produced lower greenhouse gas emissions compared tonon-timber options like concrete and steel. CLT and its connections face a shortage of broad understanding and specific guidelines, notably in protected outdoor usage. Ambiguities in structural standards result inuncertainty, potentially leading to suboptimal outcomes and needless expenses. Toaddress these challenges, this study aims to bridge knowledge gaps by investigating steelto-CLT connections under cyclic moment loading and analyzing moisture content inoutdoor applications to determine appropriate climate classifications. Two experimentswere carried out: one indoors, evaluating cyclic moment loading's effects on steel-to-CLTconnections, and another outdoors, focusing on moisture development in CLT regardingsurroundings temperature and humidity. Results indicate noticeable stiffness variation due to cyclic loading, relaxationphenomena, and moisture content variations. This study offers valuable insights intounderstanding the structural behavior and moisture dynamics of steel-to-CLTconnections, which are critical for informed decision-making in the sustainable design ofsteel-to-CLT connections in protected outdoor applications. Keywords: moment loaded CLT connections, CLT connections, cyclic moment loading, moisture content, moisture content variation.
