The diploma thesis will focus on the life and work of bishop Simon Barta (1864-1940) in the period 1920-1940, when this Church dignitary headed the diocese of Ceske Budejovice. It will be based on the sources of the central and regional archives, which, with the knowledge of the specialized literature, will put Barth's life in the historical and religious context of the First and Second Czechoslovak Republic and the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, and reconstructing the bishop's activity. The student will work with analytic-synthetic, comparative and heuristic methods that will allow him to plastically portray Barth's action in an adequate religious context of the history of the 20th century.

This thesis concentrates on Czechoslovak-French relations in 1989-1992. It examines the factors, that form foreign policies. This thesis goes from realistic theory of the clash of national interests. First chapter concentrates on the forming of Czechoslovak foreign policy. The second one examines the common history of Czechoslovak-French relationship with the accent on French foreign policy and factors that influence it. Third chapter is concerned of Czechoslovak-French relation in 1989-1992. The last chapter solves the impact of the Treaty of understanding and cooperation of these two states.

10 Abstract The Development of Funeral Practices in the Context of the Evolution of Ideological framework of the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church. Author: Mgr. Richard Ferčík Our work resulted in finding that since the very beginning of its existence, the Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church approached the question of funeral rituals as a practical, pastoral question, not academic and theoretical. The Czechoslovak Church became a pioneer and promoter of cremation and operator of the most extensive network of columbaries in Czechoslovakia. The major moment of Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church particulars was the shift from the mechanical-magical concept of funeral in popular Catholicism, by which it tried to confront with a purified and understandable ritual based on the gospel and the desire to enculturate the gospel and translate it into a "live" language. Judging by the theological view of death and funeral, the basis from which it stemmed is quite clear - catholic modernism and liberal democratic thinking. In the first generation of Czechoslovak (Hussite) Church theologians we could observe significant "scholastic" fundament. The thesis is dedicated to the history of the Czechoslovak Red Cross (CSRC) organization, especially to the period 1945 - 1952. The CSRC carried out valuable activities between 1945 and 1948 not only in the medical field, but also in social services. Training of caregivers and voluntary nurses, establishing and operating medical facilities or searching for missing individuals due to WWII can be listed among others. A particular phase of CSRC history started after February 1948 Coup, when it slowly transformed into voluntary organization of the National Front. This thesis aims to set a complex view on Czechoslovak Women's Union, the only women's organization allowed by the state in Czechoslovakia between 1965 and 1975. For this purpose the thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter defines the women's organizations in Czechoslovakia between 1948 and 1965. The second one, which is the core of this thesis together with the two following chapters, describes organization structure of Czechoslovak Women's Union and its changes between 1965 and 1975. Third chapter concentrates on organization's ideology and its changes during this period, focusing on events of 1968 and the following changes. Last chapter describes how the ideology of Czechoslovak Women's Union was reflected in Vlasta magazine. The aim of this diploma thesis is to scrutinize the story of life of Eleonora Mendlova, the wife of Bedrich Mendl, the first professor of economic history at Charles University. The thesis enables the reader to give a closer look at the Mendl family who, undoubtedly, belongs to the cultural elites of the Czechoslovakia. With the analysis of the extant sources, it is providing a thorough image of the life of Eleonora Mendlova and her family at the background of the dramatic events of the last century. Eleonora Mendlova, born Mrackova, started her study career at the private comprehensive school Minerva and then she continued with her study at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Charles University which she did not finish. She got married to Bedrich Mendl who worked for the National Regional Institute. His work required visiting various Czech and European archives. Thanks to the travels, we can follow the story of life of a woman in the shade of a big man during the unsettled political situation. The life of Eleonora Mendl was marked considerably by the both World Wars, especially by the death of her husband during the period the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia because of his Jewish origin. The Master's thesis aims to map and analyse especially pre-war correspondence from Berlin sent by Czechoslovak envoy Vojtěch Mastný since his accession to the Berlin embassy to the establishment of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia. The work is divided into six chapters, while its goal is to analyze the opinions, the nature of its political messages and reflections of the Czechoslovak diplomat at the pre-war political development in Germany. This subjective perception of the historical events and context is further compared with contemporary literature so it is possible to make a reconstruction of dramatic turn of events after 1933. The thesis also deals with social and political situation in Germany after World War I, the Czechoslovak-German relations and the life of a Czech diplomat V. Mastný.

This thesis deals with the relation between the agrarian politician Antonín Švehla and a catholic party in the period of the first Czechoslovak Republic. This work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is The Introduction including the aim of this work and the most important sources used by creating this work. The second chapter is structured in five other subheads and is called The Personality of Antonín Švehla. There is presented the life of this important agrarian, his political influence, the characterization of all three governments, in which he was the prime minister and his party's victory in parliamentary elections in 1925. The third chapter called Antonín Švehla's relation to catholicism is divided in four subheads. The core of this chapter is to analyse Švehla's views on religion, his relation to political catholicism, to catholic personalities and to Šrámek's Czechoslovak People's Party. The last chapter is The Conclusion which summarizes the main contribution of the thesis.

Development of the Prosecutor's Office in Trutnov district in years 1949 - 1993 Abstract Presented work deals with origin, development and activity of District Prosecutor's Office in Trutnov in years 1949 - 1993. Time frame of this work is defined by the beginning of the year 1949, when District Prosecutor's Offices were originated as whole new type of public prosecutor's offices, and by the end of the year 1993, when whole new legal regulation of public prosecutor's offices was accepted, which no longer had roots in communist Czechoslovakia. In the first part the work deals with organisation and position of public prosecutor's offices from historical and legal point of view, where belongs the origin of District Prosecutor's Office in Trutnov. Second part of the work deals with substantive jurisdiction of the Prosecutor's Office, main principles of its activity, qualification and ethics of the prosecutor. The dissertation is historical probe into the significant period of the development sociology of leisure (1965-1972) at that time ČSSR, comes from the epoch definitions of the term "leisure", which mutually differ in the attitude, in which is this term delimited, further it contains the then specification and separation of the leisure activities, the characteristics and functions of leisure. The dissertation describes the position and development of sociology as a scientific discipline in the post-war years, presents the knowledge about the most offten themes and methods in sociological research of leisure used during the examining period. The solution for determination of the themes and used methods are particularly the studies of Czech sociologists Disman and Filipcová. Since this is a study which is processed on the department of Pedagogy, the knowledge development of leisure sociology is embed into wider context and one charter is devoted especially to the leisure of the youth. The dissertation in general evaluates the contribution of sociology for the research and pedagogy of leisure in the examining period.
