This diploma thesis consists of a research and a practical part. The research part summarises the problem of slopes movements. The practical part deals with the determination of the slope deformation causes, at the 76th km of the D11 motorway. Causes determination was based on laboratory tests of soil samples taken from the disrupted motorway cut, made at PřF UK soil mechanics lab. Tests of grain size composition were done, plasticity of the L 26 sample was determined and critical strength of the reconstituted L26 and L27 samples was found out in the Translational apparatus box. Soils were categorized due to the according standards and the acquired data were evaluated. In the BricsCAD software, a well arranged locality situation and the slope deformation crosscut underlayed with the geophysical ERT cut were illustrated. In the GEO5 software, slope stability models were created using the Spencer Method of Slices. The slip surface and the groundwater level during the disruption were determined. The practical part also covers a proposal of a remediation appropriate for this deformation and it's modelling in GEO5. For the remediation, the slope stability level is determined. Study of the I-35W Highway Bridge Collapse Mechanism

The Deck truss portion of the I-35W Highway Bridge in Minneapolis, Minnesota collapsed on August 1, 2007 while roadwork was underway on the bridge. The entire truss was recovered from the river to study the causes of failure. The National Transportation Safety Board attributes the collapse to inadequate load carrying capacity of the steel gusset plates connecting the main truss members at four specific nodes. Permanent deformations of the members in proximity to these nodes were documented and a surveillance video camera recorded the collapse event in a major section of the structure. The inelastic behavior of the deck truss during the collapse event is studied in this research by performing nonlinear structural analysis on a simplified two-dimensional model. Nonlinear behavior is discretized at specific locations starting with buckling of the critical gusset plates and continuing with yielding in members where the internal forces increased at a higher rate during the post-buckling behavior. The analysis results show the sequence of failure events that lead to the formation of a collapse mechanism in the center span of the deck truss, which is the first to fall into the river. Comparison between the available evidence and the analysis results validate the conclusions drawn in this research. / Master of Science

Graded Hecke Algebras for the Symmetric Group in Positive Characteristic

Graded Hecke algebras are deformations of skew group algebras which arise from a group acting on a polynomial ring. Over fields of characteristic zero, these deformations have been studied in depth and include both symplectic reflection algebras and rational Cherednik algebras as examples. In Lusztig's graded affine Hecke algebras, the action of the group is deformed, but not the commutativity of the vectors. In Drinfeld's Hecke algebras, the commutativity of the vectors is deformed, but not the action of the group. Lusztig's algebras are all isomorphic to Drinfeld's algebras in the nonmodular setting. We find new deformations in the modular setting, i.e., when the characteristic of the underlying field divides the order of the group. We use Poincare-Birkhoff-Witt conditions to classify these deformations arising from the symmetric group acting on a polynomial ring in arbitrary characteristic, including the modular case.

This thesis deals with design, implementation and analysis of the model for dynamic changes in the terrain. Present state of terrain deformation in OpenSceneGraph environment is described and available relevant software called TDS, which allows terrain adaptation to new inserted objects is presented. Special emphasis is placed on design of model for physically based terrain deformations that are caused by moving object or by bomb explosion. The results of simulation tests are presented and on the base of model analysis, the optimizations, which significantly improve final algorithm, are designed and realized.
