BI jako služba / BI as a service

Musil, Martin January 2011 (has links)
The main objective of the thesis is to present SaaS business intelligence as a set of concepts and methods aimed at improvement of business decision making process based on Software as a Service model. To understand this, it's important to describe first general principles, on which are based conventional so-called on-premises solutions and the means how they work. It's also necessary to present Software as a Service as today's very popular software deployment model. Further objective is the description of these solutions, introduction of their strengths, weaknesses and guidelines how to choose a suitable service provider. Final objective of the thesis is to compare these two different methods of BI tools deployment, in that case on-premises and on-demand and to sketch out means, following them will be possible to decide for one of the methods.

Employers’ Perception of Older Workers and Labour Demand

Thorstensson, Olof January 2017 (has links)
With the ageing population in Sweden and the need for more working hours among older workers as background, this essay analyses labour demand for older workers. More precisely it tries to find a connection in employer perceptions of certain character traits for older contra younger workers and the propensity to hire older workers. Using a newly conducted survey sent out to Swedish establishments, this study finds two character traits where negative perceptions have an extra negative effect on hiring: creativity and endurance. Unfortunately, there is a presence of low t-statistics throughout the results which calls for further research on the subject. As a secondary objective, this study also briefly looks at the previously unexplored subject of how the age of an establishment affects labour demand. Results for this points to a small effect but in these results, there are also cases of low statistical significance.

Hrubý, Petr January 2014 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to identify and analyse factors affecting the attendance of domestic football matches of SK Dynamo club České Budějovice. The main emphasis is placed on working with fans. The theoretical part relates to the topic and focuses on the determining factors of demand for sport events, the sport product theory and phenomenon of a fan. The practical part introduces the club SK Dynamo České Budějovice more closely and analyses individual factors affecting demand for the club's matches and defines the significance of these factors. A chapter on working with the fans follows. At first the elements of sport product are characterised and secondly the club marketing elements. The practical section chapters are underpinned by the results of a survey which was carried out among the fans of SK Dynamo České Budějovice. The discourse and conclusion summarize the analysed results, evaluates working with fans and last but not least outlines possible steps for improvements of attendance and working with club's fans.

Frontal EEG Asymmetry and Communication Patterns During Discussion of Disagreements in Romantic Partners

Kogan, Anya V., Kogan, Anya V. January 2016 (has links)
Relationship conflict puts individuals at risk for emotional distress and physical illness. Although many studies in the field have focused on examining cardiovascular, endocrine, and immunological changes associated with relationship conflict, the role of central nervous system processes in relationship functioning remains vastly underexplored. The present study examined frontal electroencephalographic (EEG) alpha asymmetry during discussions of disagreements in romantic partners. Asymmetrical brain activity over the frontal cortex has been conceptualized in the literature as both a trait and state indicator of approach and withdrawal behaviors, with relatively greater left than right frontal activity corresponding to approach behaviors and relatively less left than right frontal activity corresponding to withdrawal behaviors. It was hypothesized that during discussions of disagreements in romantic partners, relatively greater left than right frontal activity would be associated with approach of discussion whereas relatively less left than right frontal EEG asymmetry would be associated with avoidance of discussion. It was also hypothesized that partners would engage in higher level of approach behaviors and exhibit relatively greater left than right frontal activity during discussion of the issue in the relationship that they chose to discuss relative to the issue chosen by their partner. Fifty heterosexual college couples in romantic relationships for at least two months came to the laboratory for a 2.5-hour experimental session, during which self-reported measures were administered, EEG activity was recorded continuously from both partners, and interactions were video-recorded. Participants were asked to engage in 2 discussions of topics on which they disagreed, in counterbalanced order, and each partner was given an opportunity to select an issue to be discussed (Her Issue vs. His Issue). After each discussion, participants were asked to watch a video-recording of their discussions and rate themselves continuously, using a computer mouse, on how much they approached and avoided the discussion. After excluding left-handed participants and data unusable due to equipment failure, data from 25 couples were analyzed. Consistent with the study hypothesis, during discussion of Her Issue, in female partners, greater self-reported rating of approach of discussion was associated with relatively greater left than right frontal activity at F4-F3 and F2-F1 EEG leads. However, there was no significant association between rating of approach of discussion and frontal EEG asymmetry at any of the sites in males during Her Issue, and no effects of rating of approach of discussion on frontal EEG asymmetry at any of the sites during His Issue in either males or females. Consistent with the study hypothesis, both female and male participants evidenced greater rating of approach of discussion during the issue they chose to discuss relative to their partners' issue. Additionally, consistent with the study prediction, males evidenced relatively greater left than right frontal activity measured by the overall asymmetry across 4 regions as well as at F6-F5, F4-F3, and F2-F1 during His Issue relative to Her Issue, and females exhibited greater relative left frontal activity at F8-F7 during Her Issue relative to His Issue. However, there were no significant differences in level of frontal EEG asymmetry measured at other EEG sites. There was a significant positive association between own approach of discussion, as derived from a self-report measure of Demand-Withdraw, and relatively greater left than right frontal activity at F8-F7, F6-F5, and F4-F3 during Her Issue but not His Issue. The current study provided partial support for the association between approach and withdrawal interactions and frontal EEG asymmetry during discussions of disagreements in romantic partners. Future studies should establish whether patterns of changes in frontal EEG activity associated with these interactions have an effect on relationship quality and satisfaction, partners' ability to resolve disagreements, and partners' psychological and physical health.

Comparing the 2010 and 2011 Appic Match: Applicant Characteristics and Unmatched Applicant Distress

Hogan, Lindsey R. 05 1900 (has links)
The internship is one of the most important components of doctoral training in professional psychology. Given the serious problem of the internship imbalance, applicant and program characteristics that constitute a good “fit” with internship training programs have become of greater interest as securing an internship becomes a more competitive process. This study surveyed internship applicants from programs part of the Council of University Directors of Clinical Psychology (CUDCP), before and after the 2010 and 2011 match days. Number of interview offers was found to be the factor most consistently associated with successfully matching, and several other applicant characteristics salient to matching and obtaining interview offers were identified, including applicant personality. Additionally, personal accounts, but not empirical evidence, of going unmatched have attested to the psychological distress associated with this event. in the current study, while going unmatched was not found to be equitable to a traumatic stressor, evidence was found to support significant decrease in subjective well-being with respect to immediate distress. Findings are discussed in terms of the predictability of and implications for the match process and internship imbalance, and recommendations are made for future research directions.

Use of a GIS tool for the assessment of wind potential and location of wind farms : adjustments to demand profiles

Sanchez Piña, Angie Lorena January 2015 (has links)
The threatening impacts of climate change are driving a global revolution towards cleaner sources of energy. In South Africa, strategies for energy security and emissions reduction are focusing on renewables, wind energy being one of the most promising ones. The construction of wind energy projects has attached limitations in the identification of suitable areas that respect the environment and are technically feasible. Herein, site selection criteria has been grouped into the Site Identification group (SIG), and the Resource & Energy Generation group (R&E). The SIG incorporates technical, environmental and restricted criteria within a spatial frame; while R&E accounts for the wind resource, estimated energy generation and fitting to energy demand profiles under a spatial-temporal frame. The average wind resource is usually found to be analysed together within the technical factors to determine the feasibility of a site; however for this study, a different and independent treatment of the wind resource and its energy generation profile was undertaken. It consists of evaluating the unique hourly wind power profile of each site against the energy consumption profile for the same period. The need is for selecting places with the smallest variation between the electricity produced and the electricity demanded. The Production to Demand Difference (PDD) has been chosen as the indicator of such variations. Therefore, the new purpose is to identify spots where the combination of the PDD and the results from the SIG become smaller with time. The Mean Difference (MD) is also taken into account to obtain further information regarding the trends of the differences. Geoprocessing, overlays and mathematical combinations of datasets are all performed under a GIS environment. / Dissertation (MEng)--University of Pretoria, 2015. / tm2015 / Chemical Engineering / MEng / Unrestricted
