The conventional surface treatment performed on feldspathic ceramic is the fluoridric acid etching and silane application. But in several studies the etching has been questioned for its chemical toxicity. Thus this study aimed to evaluate the effect of heat treatment on silanized feldspathic ceramic bond strength to resin cement. Through an in vitro study 24 feldspathic ceramic sintered blocks were sectioned; 5 x 10 x 4 mm of dimensions. These blocks were randomly divided into three experimental groups: G1 ( HF + silane ) ; G2 ( + Silane heating 77 °C); (G3 + Silane + HF + heating 77 °C). The ceramic blocks were cemented with resin blocks composed of resinous cement ( Variolink , IvoclairVivadent ) , the set was later cemented identical blocks of composite resin ( Z - 100 , 3M - ESPE ) , after cementation were subjected to cycling mechanical (10,000 cycles 100 N). After cycling were sectioned into sticks of 1mm2 and submitted to microtensile test with speed of 1 mm / min. Representative samples were analyzed with a stereomicroscope at 20 x and scanning electron microscope with magnitudes of 100 x, 300 x and 500 x. The results were statistically analyzed by ANOVA one factor and by Tukey test (α = 0.05). Statistical analysis showed (p - value = 0.33) statistical similarity between all groups (G1 22.63 mPa, mPa 23.31 G2, G3 26.32 mPa). The failure analysis showed predominance of adhesive failures for all groups. It can be concluded that heating the silane is effective for this interface it is possible to eliminate the etching with HF (Flouridric acid)

Made available in DSpace on 2015-06-17T19:34:52Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2014-06-06. A ciclagem mecânica.. / The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of different silica deposition methods on the surface of a zirconia ceramic on the adhesion to a resin cement and on the fatigue limit of the materials. The tested hypothesis is that surface treatments enhance the adhesion of resin cement to zirconia, and that the application of a silica layer reduces the flexural strength of zirconia discs, before and after mechanical cycling, and that air abrasion enhance the strength in both situations, following this patter also to fatigue limits. For the adhesive test, 45 bars received the following surface treatments (n = 15): control: without surface treatment after sintering; air-abrasion: 30 μm SiO2 particles (Rocated Soft, 3M ESPE); glaze: application of a thin layer of glaze (Glaze Vita Akzent - Vita Zanhfabrik), HF etching during 1 min plus silane. Samples were resin cemented to lithium dissilicate slices, and after 2,500 cycles of thermocycling, the tensile test was performed. Disc-shaped specimens were used for the evaluation of mechanical properties. The same surface treatments were performed on the tensile side of the samples. Specimens were submitted to biaxial flexural strength before and after mechanical cycling (2 x 106 cycles, 100 N, water immersion 37 ºC, 4 Hz). Stair case method was used to determine the fatigue limit of samples at 102, 103, 104 and 105 cycles. Adhesive strength was higher for air abraded group, compared to glaze group; control group did not survived thermocycling. Mechanical cycling had no effect on flexural strength. Air abrasion presented the highest values of flexural strength. Weibull analysis showed the highest m value for air abraded group without mechanical cycling, and the highest value was presented by glazed and mechanical cycled group. In stair case analysis, all groups presented a decrease in fatigue limit according to increase in number of cycles; air ...

Effect of ceramic density and curing pressure on properties of a resin infused alumina

Jokhadar, Hossam Faisal 25 October 2017 (has links)
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the effect of sintering temperature on the microstructure and density of resin infused alumina, to investigate effect of sintering temperature and curing pressure on flexural strength, surface roughness, Young’s modulus, hardness and fracture toughness of resin infused alumina. MATERIALS: Alumina infused polymer and Vita In-ceram alumina. METHODS: Alumina powders were dry-pressed in a stainless steel mold to produce cylindrical alumina blocks. Blocks were divided into four different groups sintered at four different temperatures (1050ºC,1150ºC,1200ºC,1250ºC). The density of each block was measured. They were silane treated, and then infused with a UDMA mixture under vacuum condition. Infused alumina blocks were cured with an Isopress machine at two different pressures (20,001 psi and 23,187 psi) then cut into discs 1.5 mm thick x 14 mm diameter, n=8 for each group. Biaxial flexural strength was measured using an Instron Universal Testing machine at 0.5 mm/min crosshead speed. Surface roughness was measured with a Mitotoyu profilometer. Hardness was measured using a Vickers hardness test using Instron-produced indentations at 15 newton load for 30 seconds. Young’s modulus was measured by compressive Young’s modulus method using the Instron machine at 0.5 mm/min crosshead speed. Fracture toughness was measured using the Vickers indentation fracture toughness test. Microstructure of each group was investigated with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). RESULTS: Data were analyzed with One-way ANOVA with Tukey-Kramer HSD for comparison of all pairs at p<0.05 was used to determine statistical difference between groups. CONCLUSION: The biaxial flexural strength, surface toughness, hardness, Young’s modulus and fracture toughness increase as density of resin infused alumina increases. Interpenetrating phase material provides greater biaxial flexural strength and fracture toughness than single-phase alumina ceramics. Curing pressure has a significant effect on the biaxial flexural strength of polymer infused alumina blocks. / 2019-09-26T00:00:00Z

Tratamento de superfície e adesão em materiais vitrocerâmicos experimentais para aplicação odontológica / Surface treatment and bonding in experimental glass-ceramic materials for dental application

Andrade, Gustavo Henrique Barbosa de 03 September 2015 (has links)
Ceramic materials have been routinely used in restorative clinic. The adhesion capacity to adhesive cementation systems is a critical factor for clinical success. The main objective of the present study was to evaluate the adhesion properties to an adhesive cementation system of two experimental vitroceramic materials, a reinforced by lithium dissilicate (D) and another by lithium metasilicate (M) for dental application. For this purpose, the objective was to determine the influence of different surface treatments on bond strength to an adhesive cementation system through microtensile tests and characterize morphological changes resulting from the different surface treatments tested. Three surface treatments for each experimental material were selected: 1- blasting with Al2O3 particles (J), 2- etching with hydrofluoric acid 10% by 20 seconds (20) and 3- etching with hydrofluoric acid 10% for 60 seconds (60). A group of the commercial material, IPS e.max CAD (Ivoclar-Vivadent) was used as control, following the manufacturer\'s instructions for surface treatment. Morphological changes on the surface of the ceramics were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and demonstrated that experimental materials are acid sensitive and suffered topographical changes with the blasting. For the microtensile tests, the blocks of experimental and commercial ceramics had their surfaces conditioned and silanized with Silane agent Relyx Ceramic Primer (3M ESPE), and then they were cemented to resin composite blocks (Z100 Filtek blocks - 3M ESPE) with the resin cement, RelyX ARC (3 m ESPE). These sets were sectioned, resulting in stick-shaped specimens, with 1 mm2 cross sectional area and submitted to the microtensile tests. The test used was the analysis of variance to a criterion (One-Way ANOVA), adopting a significance level of α = 5%, the Bonferroni test was used for multiple comparisons, demonstrating that the D20 and M60 showed best results of bond strength. D20 showed no statistical difference in relation to the control group and M60 demonstrated significantly bond streght better than the commercial material of the control group; leading to the conclusion that the experimental material tested has appropriate characteristics of adhesion to the cementation system used.
