The paper investigates the future configuration of this phenomenon in urban expansion. Take as a case study the system of occupation and economic accumulation of municipalities located along the main connections of the Port of Santos to the areas of the Western Plateau (S?o Jos? do Rio Preto / Barretos / Ribeir?o Preto). We call this vector of occupation that occurs in the state of S?o Paulo "Paulista Great Diagonal". This new reality can change the territorial logic of cities as we know them so far. Studying this process contributes to: a) understand the" new design " of the territory , b) investigate new questions of pertinence capabilities and c) understanding of roles and circumstances in which public managers are facing the destinies of this fundamental phenomenon urban, rural and environmental training. The objective is to build a reading process for investigation of territoriality. Take as basis the recognition processes and resulting products. It aims to understand the profound changes listed and their repercussions on the structure, form and landscape . Toma-se como estudo de caso o sistema de ocupa??o e acumula??o econ?mica dos munic?pios localizados ao longo das principais conex?es do Porto de Santos aos dom?nios do Planalto Ocidental (S?o Jos? do Rio Preto / Barretos / Ribeir?o Preto). Denominamos este vetor de ocupa??o que ocorre no estado de S?o Paulo de Grande Diagonal Paulista . Esta nova realidade territorial pode mudar a l?gica das cidades como as conhecemos at? agora. Estudar tal processo contribui para: a) compreender o "novo desenho" do territ?rio; b) investigar novas indaga??es de capacidades e pertin?ncias e c) entendimento de papeis e circunst?ncias nas quais se encontram os gestores p?blicos frente aos destinos desse fundamental fen?meno urbano, rural e ambiental em forma??o. Objetiva-se a constru??o de um processo de leitura para investiga??o da territorialidade. Toma-se como base o reconhecimento dos processos e produtos resultantes. Objetiva-se compreender as profundas transforma??es enunciadas e seus rebatimentos na estrutura, forma e paisagem. Busca-se desenvolver um m?todo de leitura que ap?ie a pr?tica de arquitetos e urbanistas.
