Att vara ung och anställningsbar : En kvalitativ studie om hur arbetslösa ungdomar uppfattas vara anställningsbara ur ett  kommunalt arbetsgivarperspektiv

Ungdomsarbetslösheten i Sverige är i förhållande till den totala arbetslösheten, i landet, hög och är en av svenska regeringens högst prioriterade frågor inom arbetsmarknadspolitiken. För att komma in på arbetsmarknaden idag måste du visa dig anställningsbar. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka vad kommunala arbetsgivare har för uppfattning om arbetslösa ungdomars anställningsbarhet. Syftet konkretiseras med hjälp av tre frågeställningar som syftar till att se vad betydelsen av deltagandet i aktiva arbetsmarknadsåtgärder har för anställningsbarheten, samt vad gymnasieexamen och de personliga egenskaperna betyder för anställningsbarheten. Studien utgår från en kvalitativ forskningsansats och besvarar syftet utifrån åtta kommunala arbetsgivares uppfattningar om arbetslösa ungdomars anställningsbarhet. Resultatet visar att anställningsbarhet enligt de kommunala arbetsgivarna är betydelsen av erfarenheter, kompetenser och utbildning. Studien visar även att praktik i en kommunal arbetsmarknadsåtgärd, vars syfte är att ge arbetslivserfarenhet, inte nödvändigtvis kan likställas med arbetslivserfarenhet. Deltagandet i en kommunal arbetsmarknadsåtgärd kan minska anställningsbarheten, likaså kan avsaknaden av en gymnasieexamen försvåra chansen till en anställning och en individs personliga egenskaper anses avgörande. Därför uppfylls heller inte den grundläggande anställningsbarheten. / Youth unemployment in relation to overall unemployment is high and is one of the Swedish government´s priorities in labour market policy. The purpose of this study is to investigate what idea the municipal employers have of unemployed youths ́ employability. The purpose is embodied by three questions, designed to see what importance of participation in active labour market programs, upper secondary school diploma and personality have on employability. The study is based on a qualitative research approach and answers the purpose with eight municipal employers' perceptions of unemployed young people's employability. The result indicates that employability, according to the municipal employers, is the importance of experience, skills and education. The results also indicate that the internship in a municipal labour market program, which aims to provide work experience, cannot be equated with each other. Participation in a municipal labor market program could reduce employability, as well as the lack of an upper secondary school diploma reduces the chance of an employment. The personality of an individual that is considered crucial for employment does not meet the requirements of the essential employability.

Factors associated with attrition in the undergraduate diploma nursing programme

Attrition has been labelled as complex and in order to understand attrition it is important to pay attention to the rate, reasons and trends in South Africa. To understand attrition in South Africa, the trends internationally need to be taken into account to determine whether South Africa has a unique problem. Due to the enormous financial cost to the state and the students’ self-confidence, as well as their belief and understanding of why all the systems that have been put into place fail, it has become a concern. The reasons why students choose nursing and their academic progress throughout secondary schooling should give a clear indication to the educational authorities how successful the students could be. The aim of this study was to determine possible reasons for attrition in students who do the undergraduate diploma nursing course. The objective was to determine the attrition rate of students in the undergraduate course. Reasons for attrition involve a close investigation into age, home language, subjects taken in secondary school, family support, reasons for going into nursing, problems experienced, reasons for not completing the course and how these affected them. The objectives was met through a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. The target population (N=260/100%) consisted of all students that had not completed their undergraduate diploma nursing course over four years between the years 2007-2010, from a Nursing College in the Western Cape. The sample population (n=58/22%) voluntarily agreed to participate in the study. A telephonic questionnaire was administered with closed-ended questions and a small section which had a likert scale. Data was collected by the researcher and a trained field worker. Ethical approval was obtained from the Health Research Ethics Committee at the Faculty of Health Sciences, Stellenbosch University. Permission was also obtained from the Western Cape Provincial Administration to conduct the research. Informed consent was obtained from the students. Reliability and validity was supported by a pilot study conducted on (n=10/10%) of the students at the Western Cape College of Nursing to ensure feasibility of the study. The data was analysed by a statistician and presented in tables and graphs. Statistical analysis was determined by ordinal and nominal data. The results showed that there were numerous factors that contributed to the attrition of undergraduate nursing diploma students. The results showed that the majority of the students’ home language was Xhosa 43% (n=25/58) with the majority being female, single with one child. The main reasons for choosing nursing was because it was a vocation/calling. The recommendations were to ensure that all nursing colleges be integrated into institutions of higher education, thereby ensuring more stringent selection criteria. There needs to be a bridging year where the students are taught to improve their literacy and numeracy so that this will give the students a better understanding of the lectures being delivered in English. There needs to be systems in place to assist the students that are mediocre or struggling. The conclusion was that attrition is complex and requires more concrete systems to stem the rate. A total reformation of undergraduate diploma nursing programmes needs to be addressed. / AFRIKAANSE OPSOMMING: Die kwessie van attrisie by voorgraadse diploma student verpleegsters is al vir ’n geruime tyd kommerwekkend. Attrisie word as kompleks bestempel en om dit te begryp, is dit noodsaaklik om aandag te skenk aan die tempo waarteen dit vookom, asook die redes en tendense in Suid-Afrika te bepaal. Om attrisie in Suid-Afrika te kan begryp, moet die internasionale tendense in ag geneem word om te bepaal of Suid-Afrika ’n unieke probleem het. Weens die enorme finansiële onkoste wat die staat het ten opsigte hiervan en die student se selfvertroue, asook hulle geloof en begrip in al die sisteme wat in plek is wat gefaal het, word dit ’n bekommernis. Die redes waarom studente kies om verpleging te doen en hulle akademiese vordering gedurende hulle sekondêre skoolopleiding, behoort ’n duidelike aanduiding aan die onderwysowerhede te wees hoe suksesvol die studente kan wees. Die doel van hierdie studie is om die moontlike redes vir attrisie by studente wat die voorgraadse diploma kursus in verpleging volg, te bepaal. Die doelwit is om die attrisie-tempo by studente in die voorgraadse diploma kursus, te bepaal. Redes vir attrisie verg ’n indringende ondersoek van die ouderdom, huistaal, vakke geneem in die sekondêre skool, familie-ondersteuning, redes waarom verpleging as loopbaan gekies word, probleme wat ondervind word, redes waarom die kursus nie voltooi word nie en hoedat dit hulle geaffekteer het. Die doelwitte is behaal deur ’n beskrywende studie met ’n kwantitatiewe benadering te volg. Die teikenbevolking (N=260/100%) het bestaan uit alle studente wat nie hulle voorgraadse verpleegkursus binne vier jaar tussen die jare 2007-2010 aan ’n verpleegkollege in die Wes-Kaap voltooi het nie. Die steekproef bevolking (n=58/22%) het vrywillig ingestem om aan die studie deel te neem. ’n Telefoniese vraelys met geslote vrae is geadministreer en ’n klein gedeelte het ’n likertskaal bevat. Data is gekollekteer deur die navorser en ’n opgeleide veldwerker. Etiese goedkeuring is verkry van die Gesondheidsnavorsing se Etiese Komitee aan die Fakulteit van Gesondheidswetenskappe, Universiteit van Stellenbosch. Toestemming is ook verkry van die Wes-Kaapse Provinsiale Administrasie om die navorsing te doen. Ingeligte toestemming is van die deelnemers verkry. Betroubaarheid en geldigheid is ondersteun deur ’n loodsondersoek wat uitgevoer is op (n=10/10%) van die deelnemers aan die Wes-Kaap Kollege vir Verpleging om die uitvoerbaarheid van die studie te verseker. Die data is geanaliseer deur ’n statistikus en in tabelle en grafieke aangebied. Statistiese analise is bepaal deur ordinale en nominale data. Die uitslae het bewys dat daar ’n aantal faktore is wat bygedra het tot die attrisie van voorgraadse studente wat die verpleegdiploma doen. Die uitslae het bewys dat die meerderheid van die studente se huistaal Xhosa 43% (n=25/58) is, waarvan die meerderheid vroulik en enkel met een kind is. Die hoofredes waarom verpleging gekies is as loopbaan, is omdat dit ’n beroep/roeping is. Die aanbevelings is om te verseker dat alle verpleegkolleges geïntegreer word by instellings vir hoër onderwys, daardeur word strenger seleksie-kriteria verseker. Daar behoort ’n oorbruggingsjaar vir participante te wees om hulle geletterdheid en syfervaardigheid in so ’n mate te verbeter dat hulle lesings in Engels verstaan wanneer dit aangebied word. Daar behoort sisteme in plek te wees om participante te help wat gemiddeld presteer of sukkel. Die gevolgtrekking is dat attrisie kompleks is wat meer konkrete sisteme verg om die tempo waarteen dit plaasvind, die hoof te bied. ’n totale transformasie van voorgraadse diploma verplegingsprogramme behoort aangeroer te word.

This study attempts to identify learning opportunities at the Department of English Language and ELT Methodology at Charles University in Prague via a comparison with an Australian institution, The University of Queensland located in Brisbane. The secondary objective of the study is to further thesis writing culture at the Department at CU by cataloging and auditing past TEFL theses. Thus, future students could more easily and efficiently identify new areas for research and benefit from the foundations laid by previous students. The first half of this thesis provides a review of previous works conducted in the field of the history of English linguistics, with a special focus on ELT Methodology at CU. Thus, a list of Prague TEFL theses submitted between 1946-2008 follows. A similar list is created for UQ TEFL theses between 1994-2009 on the basis of research at UQ that was carried out in 2009-2010. This results in a comparison of TEFL theses topics from both universities' intersection 1994-2008. This information is then linked to establishment of areas of strength or improvement at CU. In phase two of this study, MA theses writing guidelines released by CU and UQ are compared. An Assessment of the Genetic Knowledge of Final Year Diploma Nursing Students

Student Number : 7632299 - MSc research report - Faculty of Health Sciences / The purpose of this research was to ascertain and examine the current genetic knowledge of the nurses in their final year of the Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing (General Nursing, Community Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing) and Midwifery. The research design was an exploratory, descriptive, quantitative survey, using a sample of final year student nurses at two of the three nursing colleges in Gauteng. Data were collected through the use of a self-administered paper-based questionnaire, which was adapted from a questionnaire used for a study to assess the genetic knowledge of general practitioners (Trenton, 2003). The questionnaire was adapted using the broad outline for subject content given in the curriculum for the four-year Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing (General Nursing, Community Health and Psychiatric Nursing) and Midwifery, the South African Nursing Council regulations, and the Department of Health Policy Guidelines. Random sampling was utilised to select two of the three nursing colleges in Gauteng and the total population of final year students was used as the sample. Data were analysed by means of descriptive statistics. It was concluded through this study that, although nurses showed fairly adequate knowledge in the areas of teratogens and multifactorial inheritance, they showed a lack of knowledge with regard to basic genetic inheritance patterns, genetic conditions, epidemiology and prenatal diagnostic techniques. It can thus be recommended that an expanded component of genetics be included in the basic curriculum of the four year Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing (General, Community, Psychiatric) and Midwifery programme in accordance with programmes initiated in other countries.

La dynamique des classes moyennes à Taïwan / The dynamics of the middle-classes in Taiwan

Depuis les années 1950, la société taïwanaise ne cesse de progresser en économie en réduisant les écarts de revenus entre classes sociales. En effet, ce phénomène paradoxal n'est pas un fait normal par rapport aux autres modes de développement dans le monde. Des recherches ont montré qu'il existe un rapport fort entre une société riche et égalitaire et la multiplication des classes moyennes. Des recherches qui ont envisagé ce phénomène ont porté leurs fruits, en particulier dans le domaine de l'économie. Néanmoins, cela n'est pas suffisant pour expliquer la complexité de la multiplication des classes moyennes. En effet, les classes sociales sont composées de divers éléments économiques, culturels et politiques. Il conviendrait de réfléchir sur l'histoire de Taïwan et d’explorer les significations politiques, culturelles et économiques, afin de rendre compte de la dynamique et de la formation des classes moyennes à Taïwan. En premier lieu, ce projet se donne pour objectif l'étude de la trajectoire de la composition des classes moyennes à Taïwan. Ensuite, dans la deuxième partie, il analysera les dynamiques variées qui contribuent à la révolution des éléments essentiels des classes moyennes au fur et à mesure du développement de la société taïwanaise. La troisième partie a pour but d'examiner "la crise des classes moyennes" de nos jours qui est principalement issue de l’inflation de diplôme, du manque de pouvoir syndical des salariés et de la libéralisation du monde économique qui se conforme à l’esprit de néo-libéralisme. Ce projet s'appuiera sur la méthode qui se définit par une démarche de la sociologie historique et une analyse des données empiriques. / Since the 1950s, Taiwan continues to grow in economy and reduce income disparities between social classes in the same time. Some researchers have shown a strong relationship between a rich and egalitarian society and the growth of the middle class. However, this is not sufficient to explain the complexity of the multiplication of the middle class. In fact, classes are composed of economic, cultural and political elements. In the purpose to realize this complexity, this research try to explore the political, cultural and economic elements in the contemporary history of Taiwan which help us to realize the dynamics and the formation of the middle class in Taiwan. In the first place, this research explores the trajectory of the composition of the middle class in Taiwan. In the second place, we analyze the elements which contribute to a middle class as the essential role in the development process of the society of Taiwan. In the third place, this research will examine "the crisis of the middle class" in today's Taiwan society: inflation diploma, lack of labor power of workers and liberalization of the economic world that conforms to the spirit of neo-liberalism. This project will build on the method that is defined by an analysis of historical sociology and empirical data.

The development, implementation and evaluation of the Diploma of Special Education (UG 2) program at the Nepean College of Advanced Education

This field study report is concerned with the development, implementation and evaluation of a Diploma of Special Education (UG2) teacher training program. In March, 1974, the Advanced Education Beard of Mew South Wales requested that Nepean College of Advanced Education, Westmead, implement a one year training course for Generalist (Resource) Teachers in Special Education to begin in February, 1975. The lecturers in special education, Mr. Richard Fee and Mr. George Comino, proceed to design a training program which departed radically from the approach adopted by the other colleges of advanced education in New South Wales (Mitchell, Newcastle, Kuring-gai, Alexander Mackie). Instead of following the noncategorical/ commonality approach used at these colleges, Nepean chose the categorical method. With this method, the education of a number of different handicapped children is studied separately (i.e. mentally retarded, orthopaedically handicapped, etc.) rather than by studying the various disorders collectively (i.e. Exceptional Children in Society, Exceptional Children in School, etc.). In order to evaluate the effectiveness of Nepean's approach to training special education teachers, on-going and summative evaluation in a variety of forms was carried out during the first semester. This evaluation which included the administration of a pilot Teacher Competency in Special Education Self-Rating Scale clearly demonstrated that the first intake of 29 students made significant increases in their ability to teach exceptional children. The results of the evaluation also assisted the lecturers in determining areas of course weakness which could be alleviated during the second semester.
