Identifying a leverage point to improve business performance through eLearning : a case study in a financial institution

Korpel, Isabeau Richard 02 March 2005 (has links)
In an ever-changing world of work Absa, as a business, is faced with various challenges including the continuous development of skills. Due to technological advancements, eLearning can provide a mechanism to rapidly build the required strategic and tactical skills that the organisation needs. This study explored the challenge of articulating the contribution of eLearning to business performance in an unbounded way. The study focused on the creation of knowledge about how the contribution of eLearning to business performance can be improved. In the process of knowledge creation, the study focused on identifying the point of value creation between Business and an eLearning intervention. This point of value creation can be seen as a leverage point. Systems Thinking was implemented as an approach in order to identify the leverage point. The following research objectives were defined: · To identify the driver problem that prevents eLearning from improving business performance. · To design the systems dynamic model that represents the driver problem. · To identify the leverage point within the systems dynamic model. · To reflect on the effect that the behaviour of the individuals, participating in the research process, has on the research inquiry. The sample of 28 focus group participants was selected from two specific divisions of Absa – the eChannels: Contact Centre and the Learning and Development Department. This sample consisted of Operational Management, Team Leaders, Contact Centre Consultants and learning design experts. Executive Management was excluded from the focus groups, but was included in the process as verifiers. This created an opportunity for Executive Management to voice their opinions. The results of the study indicate that the leverage point for successful contribution of eLearning to business performance is … A shared mental model of expectations between the participating stakeholders. Once Business and the Learning and Development Department start going through the constructive cycle of the systems dynamic model repeatedly, they will continuously build the shared mental model of expectations. This cycle will also build on the: 1) Level of visible support of the line managers; 2) Level of clarity of business needs to all relevant stakeholders; 3) Number of requests from business for eLearning opportunities; and 4) Level of awareness and understanding of appropriate eLearning interventions per target population. The effect of the positive reinforcement of the recurring cycle will ensure that eLearning continuously contributes to business performance. During the study the effect of the research process on the focus group participants as well as the effect of the focus group participants on the research process was also accounted for. Observers reflected on the behaviour of the focus group participants and found that their opinions and thought processes influenced the outcome of the study. The focus group participants felt that they had learnt something new, that the tasks set to the groups was clear and that the topics they had learnt most about were ‘systems thinking’ followed by the ’ relationship between eLearning and business performance’. Konstrukční návrh zubové spojky pro aplikaci v kolejové dopravě / Design of the Gear Coupling for Railway Vehicle Application

Pelíšek, Vojtěch January 2021 (has links)
The aim of this work was to create a design of a gear coupling for railway vehicle application. The work presents a comprehensive view of this issue. First of all, a brief theoretical introduction to the issue is made. The practical part follows, where the design of the whole coupling and especially the newly designed solutions are described in detail. The strength analysis performed deal with the key components that are necessary to ensure safe operation. These analyses can be applied not only for this particular case, but also to gear couplings of different designs, because in principle these calculations do not differ much. In the last chapter, which deals with the dynamic model, all the theoretical assumptions are verified, especially the coupling movements and the applied loads. If the reader deals with the issue of gear couplings, not only in the railway industry, this work presents a comprehensive view of this component. The designed coupling and all performed simulations are really usable in operation.

Vliv rozptýlené výroby na kvalitu elektrické energie / The effect of disperzed generation on power quality

Kružík, Martin January 2009 (has links)
This MASTER`S THESIS engages in connecting with dispersed generation into electrical network and their influence on power quality. This thesis sets out to make up simple dynamic model of Wind power station and model of simple network. At this model I would like to simulate influence its working on voltage’s characteristics in addition place. Besides this is necessary calculate voltage’s characteristics according present methods – factory energy rules [PNE]. And these results compare with results of simulation

Dynamický model stejnosměrného motoru s využitím metody konečných prvků / Dynamic simulation of DC motor using FEM

Gottwald, Michal January 2011 (has links)
My diploma thesis deals with a specific dynamic model of DC motor with the parameters obtained from the calculation and from the program using the finite element method. It shows how much accurate results can be achieved in the model, if you use only the values which can be measured, recorded and calculated on the engine. This thesis contens three parts. First part describes the structure and function of DC motor and the basic principle and the use of FEM. Next is calculation analytical and numerical parameters. The search parameters include torque, resistance and inductance of armature winding, resistance and inductance of excitation windings. The last part is dedicated to creating a dynamic model. Results from the dynamic model and measured values are compared in the conclusion of my thesis.

Viskózní tlumič torzních kmitů plynového vidlicového šestnáctiválce / Viscous torsional vibration damper of a gas V-sixteen engine

Říha, Stanislav January 2010 (has links)
Master’s thesis with title Viscous torsional vibration damper of a gas v-sixteen engine deals with torsion vibrafon of the crankshaft and chance how to eliminated it. First part of diploma thesis containes calculation of torsion vibrafon without damper. In second part is added damper. In the end of this thesis is equaiont made of both parts.

Viskózní tlumič torzních kmitů čtyřválcového vznětového motoru / Viscous type vibration damper of a four-cylinder diesel engine

Bůžek, Václav January 2011 (has links)
The point of the dissertation is to describe the design of powertrain of four-cylinder diesel engine equipped with vibration damper. After estimating the discreet model of powertrain, forced vibration calculation is performed to design appropriate vibration damper. The following part describes the safety factor solution of crankshaft fatigue using FEM. The dissertation provides a useful comparison for versions with and without damper. Crankshaft and viscous type vibration damper drawings are also included as appendices.

Návrh a řízení samobalancujícího robotu / Design and control of self balancing robot

Jiruška, Jiří January 2016 (has links)
This thesis deals with complete design and manufacturing of autonomous two wheeled self-balancing robot. The goal of this thesis is to maintain the robot in up-right position and to follow black line using camera. The robot is controlled using Raspberry Pi and driven by DC motors. This thesis includes the design and implementation of hardware and software parts. Subsequently there was created the dynamic model in Matlab/Simulink. Based on this model, the LQR and PID controller was designed.

Dynamický model harmonické převodovky / Dynamic Model of Harmonic Gearbox

Garami, Boris January 2016 (has links)
This thesis deals with the design of a dynamic model of a harmonic drive. It includes a theoretical study aimed at the analysis of the harmonic drive gearing principle and its nonlinear properties. The first part of the practical section deals with the analytical calculation of the nondeformed geometry of the Flexspline. Based on these results, several simulations in ANSYS are created to identify torsional characteristics of a harmonic drive. These simulation models are further enhanced by the analysis of clearance, backlash and inaccuracies and their impact on torsional properties. By using MATLAB /Simulink, several dynamic submodels are created representing the individual characteristics of nonlinearities in harmonic drives. Furthermore, a comprehensive dynamic model is created of the mechatronic system which is describing all nonlinearities and kinematic error of the transmission. The dynamic model is also experimentally verified based on its damping properties.
