Ο στόχος της παρούσας διπλωματικής εργασίας είναι η ανάπτυξη μια java εφαρμογής μέσω της οποίας ο χρήστης θα έχει τη δυνατότητα να εισαγάγει συναρτήσεις Boole προκειμένου να πραγματοποιηθεί η ελαχιστοποίησή τους. Ο χρήστης έχει τη δυνατότητα να εισαγάγει συναρτήσεις έως και έξι μεταβλητών. Η εισαγωγή της συνάρτησης Boole μπορεί να πραγματοποιηθεί συμπληρώνοντας κατευθείαν τον χάρτη Karnaugh ή εισάγοντας τη συνάρτηση μέσω του πίνακα αληθείας ή εισάγοντας τους ελαχιστόρους, μεγιστόρους και αδιάφορους όρους της συνάρτησης και εισάγοντας τη συνάρτηση στην αλγεβρική της μορφή. Έπειτα ο χρήστης έχει δύο επιλογές, να εμφανίσει την ελαχιστοποιημένη συνάρτηση ως άθροισμα γινομένων ή ως γινόμενο αθροισμάτων. Η ελαχιστοποίηση πραγματοποιήθηκε με χρήση του αλγορίθμου της μεθόδου QuineMcCluskey (μέθοδος κατάταξης σε πίνακα). Στην εφαρμογή υπάρχει δυνατότητα επιλογής γλώσσας (ελληνική ή αγγλική). Επιπλέον, ο χρήστης μπορεί να αλλάξει τα ονόματα των μεταβλητών που χρησιμοποιούνται στις συναρτήσεις με ονόματα δικής του επιλογής. Τέλος, η εφαρμογή πληρεί αρκετές προϋποθέσεις ευχρηστίας, έτσι ώστε να μπορεί να χρησιμοποιηθεί με ευκολία από τους χρήστες. / The scope of this present diploma thesis is the development of a java application with which the user can import boolean functions in order to minimize them. The user has the possibility of importing functions up to six variables. The import of Boolean function could be achieved with filling the Karnaugh map or importing the function via the truth table or importing the minterms or importing the function as an algebra expression. Then the user has two choices, to present the minimized function as sum of products or as products of sum. The minimization was achieved using the method of classification in table, which is known as method QuineMcCluskey. At this application, the user has the possibility to choose the language, either Greek or English as well as to change th name of variables that they are used in the functions. Finally, the application fills enough conditions of usability, so it can be used easily from the users.

The MAPK pathway is important in various biological functions. It is also important in regulating processes associated with gene transcription via different mechanisms such as by phosphorylation of transcription factors, coactivators/corepressors and histone modifier complexes. H3K4 methylation is highly associated with active transcription. Deposition of this mark is catalysed by SET-domain methyltransferases which consists of a WAR complex (WDR5, ASH2L and RBBP5), a catalytic SET-domain protein and other subunits. However, potential links between ERK MAPK signaling and H3K4 methylation in gene expression are not well understood. Thus, the aim of this study was to probe the potential links between these two pathways towards gene-regulatory networks. This study attempted to elucidate their direct functional interaction by studying whether components of the SETD1A complex could be phosphorylated upon ERK activation. Our results showed that the core components of SETD1A complex were not phosphorylated in vivo and in vitro by ERK. Importantly, we reported that at least two splicing variants of RBBP5 exist. ERK-dependent stabilization of exogenous RBBP5 was observed but the mechanism underlying this is unknown. Surprisingly, we found that WAR complex depletion increased the pre-mRNA expression of immediate-early (IE) genes which did not necessarily reflect changes in their mRNA levels. In addition, this occurred in an H3K4me3-independent manner. This regulation is likely to be posttranscriptional that involves pre-mRNA processing events. First, we noticed a decrease of transcription initiation in WAR complex-depleted cells upon ERK activation. Second, depletion of the WAR complex affects the splicing efficiency of FOS and EGR1. Third, RBBP5 occupancy was observed and was significantly reduced upon siRNA-mediated RBBP5 depletion at the coding region and the 3' end of FOS gene. Therefore, we propose that the WAR complex regulates the pre-mRNA processing of IE genes through an interaction between RBBP5 and a splicing factor that has yet to be identified.

Thesis (Ed.M.)--Boston University / The purpose of this study is to produce a systematic progression of social studies skills for fourth grade pupils in the interpretation of maps and globes. Intelligent map reading tends to develop intelligent diagnosis of human and world relationships. Incidental or non-directive map teaching is not sufficient for all of the vicarious travel encountered in the social studies. Since the cartographer's language introduces a new symbolic communication, a mental picture behind each feature on the map becomes a necessary step to understanding. The ability to read types of specific information from maps and globes needs to be developed gradually and in systematic progression as early as possible.

We define new metrics for linear codes over the ring Fq[u]/(ut) via an Fq-module monomorphism on linear codes over Fq. The construction generalizes the Gray map, Gray weight, and Lee weight; and the technique allows us to find some new optimal linear codes and their weight enumerator polynomial.

The diploma thesis goes into Tourism atlas of South Bohemian Region and its processing into a set of maps. I am describing a selection of tourist attractions as well as processing of map sheets in the beginning of the dissertation. Next part of the dissertation deals with basic characteristics of the defined area. I am also concentrating on the GIS points at issue and I am describing cartographic means of expression and map composition in this part. Before processing the atlas I had made a few designs of map sheets. Then I chose one design which served for making of the atlas. Tourism atlas is a principal part of the dissertation. It is formed out of 32 thematic maps based on tourist attractions. I have included the following thematic areas among selected attractions: nature attractions, protected areas, cultural heritage (castles, châteaux, strongholds, ruins, lookout towers, museums, galeries, UNESCO monuments, natural cultural heritage, urban conservation areas and reserves, rural conservation areas and reserves, and others).
