Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach's Ohne Liebe: A Translation and CommentaryPeris, Steven L. 29 November 2012 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis explores a short drama of Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, Without Love. It provides not only a complete English translation of the work, but also an interpretative introduction. By first examining the life of Ebner-Eschenbach, I am able to provide insight to the origins of the play. Because Ebner-Eschenbach faced so much opposition in her drama writing career this one act play becomes more relevant. It contains similar themes to her other works such as: gender roles, the role of the aristocracy, and love in marriage. Without Love examines the role of love in marriage by providing the reader with a comedic scenario in which a couple claims to marry without love. While purporting a marriage without love, there is in fact a great deal of love in the play. Love is an enabling power in the story that causes great change in the characters f lives. Ebner-Eschenbach uses love to argue against traditional romantic marriages and lay the pathway for a future where women can reject the patriarchal society and love for themselves. There is however, a distinct irony in the story because the title is after all, Without Love. I propose that love is indeed everywhere throughout the play and that Eschenbach uses this theme to push her own agenda of the modern women in aristocratic societies. Eschenbach writes in both a pre-modern and modern style and uses love to ensure the preservation of her own aristocratic class while advocating for social reform for all classes.

ZÁMEK ZDISLAVICE – KONCEPCE OBNOVY KULTURNÍ PAMÁTKY / CASTLE ZDISLAVICE - CONCEPT OF RECOVERY OF CULTURAL MONUMENTSValentová, Veronika January 2016 (has links)
The task of this thesis is the concept of restoration of the castle Zdislavice and its new use as a literary hotel, focusing on the personality of a prominent Austrian writer Marie Ebner-Eschenbach, née Dubská. My goal was to find use, which could be revived and could thus be preserved for future generations. Thanks to the personality of the writer, I decided to create site devoted to literature. I designed hotel for literary enthusiasts, linguists, copywriters and professionals. But also for visitors who are interested in the person of Marie Ebner-Eschenbach. There is also a restaurant, a literary cafe with an associated museum of the writer, chapel, banquet halls with potential uses for conference and library (three libraries). Part of the area is used as a park. It is designed as an English park, but part of the area closest to the castle is designed as a French garden. The tomb of Marie Ebner-Eschenbach is near the castle and is accessible via a staircase. Connection between tomb and castle is shown in the situration plan.

Filosofie jako pneumatologie Ferdinanda Ebnera v díle "Das Wort und die geistigen Realitäten: Pneumatologische Fragmente" / Philosophy as Pneumatology of Ferdinand Ebner in the work "Das Wort und die geistigen Realitäten: Pneumatologische Fragmente"ČERNÁ, Tereza January 2013 (has links)
The thesis deals with a philosophical conception of an Austrian thinker of the 20th century Ferdinand Ebner in his life?s work ?Das Wort und die geistigen Realitäten: Pneumatologische Fragmente? (1921). Not only his life and the persons who influenced Ebner?s work were taken into account, but also the cultural-historical context of the period in which his original thoughts evolved. The heart of this paper lies in the introduction and explanation of the basic terms and theses that are crucial for Ebner?s philosophy, or more precisely his pneumatology. This part also contains Czech translation of some of the most important passages of Ebner?s work.

Auf dem Weg in die Selbstständigkeit : Frauenbildung und Berufsleben am Beispiel von Marie von Ebner-Eschenbachs Lotti, die Uhrmacherin, Theodor Fontanes Mathilde Möhring und Vicki Baums stud. chem. Helene Willfüer / On the way to independence : Women education and professional activity in Marie von Ebner-Eschenbachs Lotti, die Uhrmacherin, Theodor Fontanes Mathilde Möhring and Vicki Baums stud. chem. Helene WillfüerEinarsson, Stella January 2020 (has links)
This study concerns the growing women´s independence movement and the professional activity among women in Germany and Austria from 1880 to 1928. Three female novel characters are examples of women who worked at home, chose to become teachers, or, in the beginning of 20th century studied science at the university and worked as scientists. This study aims at finding out if the women in the novels are shown as independent; if both female and male gender norms are represented and what differences there are between the novels. The three novels are Lotti, die Uhrmacherin by Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach and first published in 1880, Mathilde Möhring by Theodor Fontane and published in 1908 and stud. chem. Helene Willfüer by Vicki Baum, published in 1928. The analysis has shown that each one of the three novels expresses social criticism and describes problems the novel figures had because of their female gender. The chosen method for this study is a comparison between the novels and it is based on feminist literature theory. The comparison has shown that three novels have clear similarities and references to the year in which they were published and they discuss actual problems. Further research and analysis is relevant because of the complexity of women´s liberation and their path to equality.
