The Bargain Between Young Women&#039 / s Labour And Capital: An Unemployment Analysis Through State, Labour Market And Family

Saritas, Canet Tuba 01 January 2011 (has links) (PDF)
The unemployed is not nonsexual. Rather, the sexuality of unemployed is socially constructed. The unemployed both young and female do not struggle equally with unemployed both young and male for open positions in the labour market. On the one hand, unemployed young woman seeks a job through the criteria determined in a way that it shall not constitute any challenge for the dominance of men and capital due to the roles provided to herself within society. On the other, by his/her hiring and firing practices, employer reproduces both these criteria and his/her own interests consequent of these. Depending on her social and economical characteristics, unemployed young woman enters a bargain, more precisely a struggle, through these criteria and interests of capital to make a place for herself in labour market. State with its new right applications and regulations, labour market with a neo-liberal approach ensuing from the process since 1980s, family by mechanisms provided by patriarchal system are a party to and identifiers of this bargain or struggle process. This study scrutinises the reasons of young women&rsquo / s unemployment as part of this unequal bargain and struggle. Study provides a feminist analysis set in which young women&rsquo / s unemployment or the employment bargain between young women&rsquo / s labour and capital is considered through state, labour market, family and, the articulation mechanisms amongst them are examined with regards to the unification between capitalism and patriarchy. This analysis set reframes reasons of young women&rsquo / s unemployment with segregation, crowding and employment creation challenge.

Sá Britto, Natália Daniela Soares January 2018 (has links)
In this study we examine the public and private agents involved in real-estate promotion in the city of Pelotas (RS) in the period from 2009 to 2016, highlighting their strategies, articulations and synergies around the reproduction of the built environment. The theoretical framework encompasses the contributions of authors such as Harvey (1980; 2004; 2007; 2013), Chesnais (1996), Lefebvre (2008), Lipietz (1989), Soja (1993), Gottdiener (1997), Abramo (1988), Pereira (2005), Carlos (2010), Sanfelici (2015), Shimbo (2010), Royer (2014), Rolnik (2015), Aalbers, and Fernandez (2014). It revisits the assumptions about economic and urban restructuring of the city, examining the growing trend of financialization as an element that induces processes of valorization, internationalization and accumulation of capital and of reproduction of the space. In methodological terms, the investigation is built around a diversity of sources of information, data collection instruments and technical procedures, both qualitative and quantitative, which are fundamental to operate a theoretical- analytical approximation regarding the formal and functional characteristics of the processes, fractions, objects and actions featured in this study. The results of the investigation demonstrate an increase in the production of built environment in Pelotas (RS), after the year of 2009, generating new forms, functions and structuring of the urban space and of the real- estate sector in this medium-sized city, especially through the increase of new architectural and urban artifacts and the emergence of new logics, links and scales of production, valorization and articulation between local, regional and national agents.

Specifically refers to the employability of graduates Course Colun Administration Technical / UFMA. The research aimed to analyze influences of personal attributes, socioeconomic, cultural and school certificates in employability status, identifying ambiguities and contradictions in the context of corporate restructuring. It discusses the concept of employability, considering the origin and development in times of crisis of capital and its ideological justification of the labor market and the social exclusion process. The research was developed in a historical and dialectical approach, including bibliographic and documentary research, complemented by an empirical study with data collection through a questionnaire with closed and open questions, whose information had quantitative and qualitative analysis. The literature review was based on several authors, among them: Alberto Almeida, Alves, Antunes, Canoy, Castells, Chiavenato, Ciavatta, Coriat, Deluiz, Frigotto, Guilhon, Harvey, Kuenzer, Landini, Milk, Minarelli, Paiva, Peixoto, pochmann, Ramos, Saul, Silva, Tauile and Zarifian. The legal documents prioritized in the analysis were laws, decrees and other on education. The empirical study valued the common indicators related to the concept of employability in that theoretical framework. The text is composed of seven sections. In it, there are the changes in the working world with the crisis of capital in the early 1970s and the changes in the worker's profile, with influences in educational policies, including in education. The paper also discusses the concept of employability in its various versions and relations with stages of development of the capitalist mode of production. With the changes in the work and the concept of employability, exemplify up their influence on educational reforms in Brazil by means of Decree No. 2,208 / 1997 and No. 5,154 / 2004, which had repercussions on worker training model and influenced formatting professional education courses. The empirical study showed that the Technical Course in University of UFMA College of Administration has the current curriculum proposal formatted by the model of competence, related to the concept of employability, lives with great evasion because it is average post despite being valued by graduates , is directed to a less privileged social group economically and does not guarantee employment condition.

To Hell in a Handcart Educational realities, teachers' work and neo-liberal restructuring in NSW TAFE

Clark, Judith January 2003 (has links)
This thesis examines the impact of neo-liberal economic restructuring on teachers, specifically teachers in technical and further education. Historically, there has been limited research undertaken on teachers as workers, and even less on TAFE teachers. During the period covered by the study, TAFE was buffeted by the massive changes, social, political, cultural and economic, that were occurring on a global scale. As a result, TAFE has been a system in crisis. The consequences are addressed by an empirical study that examines NSW TAFE teachers' experience of the great changes that have occurred to their work since the late 1980s. Forty-one teachers were interviewed in tape recorded sessions lasting around one hour each. The respondents were drawn from twenty-seven teaching sections across all the major industry areas represented in TAFE. Twenty of the teachers were from metropolitan locations, twenty-one were regional. Nine managers were also interviewed, from Head of Studies to senior management levels, covering those with local as well as state-wide responsibilities. The changes to TAFE have been driven by a pervasive neo-liberal ideology adopted by both major parties in Australia. This study documents the experience of TAFE teachers as that ideology led to a corporatised vocational education and training system strongly oriented to the market. It also records their responses to the narrowing of curriculum that resulted from the "industry-driven" vocational education and training policies of governments. The study gives voice to their grief, frustration and anger as their working conditions deteriorated and their commitment to quality education was undermined. The study documents the teachers' resistance to the processes of organisational fragmentation, the increasing incidence of cost-driven, rather than educational, decision-making, and the commodification of curriculum driven by a series of policy decisions taken at both national and state level. The study compares these experiences with those of the TAFE managers, whose response to the crisis, while differing from that of the teachers, supports the teachers' commitment to public education as a social good. The study concludes that the NSW TAFE teachers' resistance has continued to act as a brake on the excesses of neo-liberalism. Some possibilities for an alternative vision of technical and further education thus remain.

Identity Work for "Boomer" Professionals: Career Transition in the Restructured Economy

Baird, George James 01 December 2009 (has links)
I conducted a qualitative study, interviewing thirty-three workers from the baby-boomer generation, with an objective of examining the intersection of aging and economic restructuring for boomer professionals. Participants’ careers had been impacted by the restructured economy at a point after they reached the age of forty. I applied an identity theory framework that emphasized meanings associated with growing older in the workforce, changes in the economy, self-meanings, and behavior in the restructured workplace. My focus also included process and questions of structure and agency. I used grounded theory methods to provide theory that explains the experience of transitioning from an existing work role as a downsized worker seeking a new job, entering selfemployment, or pursuing a reinvention of one’s career. I examine the transition process, the effects of structure, the formation and maintenance of identity in the transition role, and the factors that impact transition outcomes. I propose a theoretical argument that provides a comprehensive framework for the transition process. I establish transition as a relatively new and legitimate role for today’s worker, identify hegemonic structure as being particularly influential in the development of transition role identities, conceptualize personal resources—specifically self-esteem, selfefficacy, and authenticity—as key aspects of maintaining identity during transition, and investigate worker attributes that relate to transition outcomes. I assess career outcomes in terms of how successfully the transition role is negotiated and identify characteristics that comprise successful and unsuccessful transitions. I then discuss the implications of unabated economic restructuring for boomer professionals and, more broadly, for the future of the U.S. economy.

Territorialização da indústria automobilística em Catalão e as mudanças no trabalho / The territorialisation in the automotive industry Catalão and the changes in work

No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Alex T de Santana - parte 1.pdf: 967239 bytes, checksum: 6e9e8f614bf9bb984785c08bc94ef4a9 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2011-06-03 / The spatial changes promoted by the productive restructuring of capital, profoundly change the relationship between capital and labor in contemporary, advertising a new phase of expansion and capital accumulation. Reflecting this new dynamic, the geographic mobility of capital has led to industrial decentralization to regions until then little industrialized. This is the case of territorialization of the automotive industry in Catalão that, from the company MMC Automotores do Brazil S/A , representative group of Mitsubishi Motors in the country, located in Catalão (GO) in 1997/1998, sets a new standard reproduction of capital in Southeast Goiás. Nowadays the MMC with their outsourced employ approximately 3,000 (three thousand) workers, which, in the vast majority, are represented by "Sindicato dos Trabalhadores Metalúrgicos de Catalão" (SIMECAT), which was founded in June 2004. The precariousness of work, the new methods of organizing production, the various social control mechanisms, among which stand out Profit Sharing and Results, the teamwork permeated by the discourse of cooperation, outsourcing and hiring of workers of several cities in the Catalão Microregion, show that the geographical expansion of capital deeply reaches into the working class, especially the capacity for organization and mobilization. However, the resistance from SIMECAT also identifies that, even multifaceted and fragmented, the workers point to the need for social emancipation. So, the objective of this research is to understand the spatial changes caused by territorialization of the automobile industry in Catalão and the changes for the job, understanding that this phenomenon is limited to the logic of the process of productive restructuring of capital. For this, the methodology used in this research consists of three stages: theoretical research, documentary research and field research, interconnected, by the theoretical that structure all the work. In addition to the literature review was also held consultation on various documents and data from agencies like the Labor Ministry, the IBGE, the SEPLAN/GO, SEFAZ/GO and others, and was made the collect of informations through interviews and questionnaires, particularly with the MMC company workers, leaders of SIMECAT and public authorities who represent Catalão City Hall and DIMIC.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Dissertacao Wania C F Cunha part 1.pdf: 2874121 bytes, checksum: 7b454d5193bcbba5893251cca8956f6a (MD5) Previous issue date: 2009-12-10 / The mainly theme about this research is the importance of the regional dynamic and the reflexes about the economic development and at the space intraurbano organization. As time goes by, Anápolis has benefited in the geography and strategy localization in the goiano regional site and national, that was so important to the growth and changes in its economy. We can observe that the economy in Anápolis had a good return about the changes in the estadual and regional changes, which its has a regional division in the works. By the way, this regional works division promotes important changes in the economies functions in Anápolis in the goiano site over the time, which one had a huge impact in the intraurbano anapolino site, mainly because of the dynamics‟ economies localization. It can be seen in the localization variation from the productive hegemonic activities and also from the urban improvements developed along the way. The bibliography review shows that for each economic activity developed in the 20th, had occurred a huge changes in the intraurbano site. Like an example, in 1935 the railroad had arrived, and this railroad besides being an excellent commercial connection in the state, formed a new economic center. In 1950, the city assumed the trade from the state, because the railroad and the economic center had changed to the southeast region, so the trade center moved near the BR-153. In 1970, DAIA (Distrito Agro-Industrial de Anápolis) had became Anápolis the most important trade center in Goiás and the most important industrial center, too. And nowadays the south region is the economic center in the city. Along the research we can show the most important facts that helped and allowed the city to became an important regional economic center and also helped the intraurbano development. Despite of the development in the historically city, we had the economics changes in 1990, in the intraurbana organization. In this period, DAIA´s implantation, we´ve research the economic importance in Anápolis and Goiás, in the cotemporary condition, and the influence in the intraurbano site structure. To reach our goals, we adopted some methodologies strategies, like: a) bibliography about the anapolino´s intraurbano site development; b) theoretical review about the mainly changes in the capitalists productive structures and the industrial districts emergency; c) secondary economics data collection ; d) documental datas about the main economic agents in the intraurbano south region, like DAIA, from EADI, Plataforma Logística Multimodal de Goiás, IGTF and the Arranjo Produtivo Farmacêutico from Goiás; e) researches and themes maps productions. The results had helped to identify the regional economics dynamic in Anápolis from 1990 and the reflexes in the intraurbano dynamic structure site in the state.
