Associationen mellan narkotikaanvändning och brottslighet

Janson, Lisa, Jakobsson, Isabelle January 2017 (has links)
The aim of the present study was to examine the association between illegal drug use and property- and violent crimes. In the present study, data from the Swedish population-based RESUMÉ study were used. The study included 2,500 participants between the ages of 20-24 who were born between 1987 and 1991, 47.4% males and 52.6% females. Results showed a correlation between illegal drugs (i.e., cannabis, anabolic steroids and other hormonal drugs and other illegal drugs) and property- and violent crimes. The results also showed positive independent relationships between illegal drugs and property- and violent crimes. Together all drugs explained 10% of all property crimes and 7% of all violent crimes. These findings can be used to advance intervention strategies aimed at decreasing illegal drug use as well as crime.
