The thesis deals with the application of green marketing, respectively Green behaviour of retail chains Tesco Stores, Penny Market and Kaufland Czech Republic in the territory of the regional city České Budějovice. The main aim is thus to determine whether these retail chains use green marketing and behaviour to what extent, based on the set of indicators and whether the customers of these chains reflect green marketing and behaviour in their purchasing decisions. The theoretical part is focused on definitions of basic and related concepts such as green marketing, green economy, customer purchasing behaviour and theoretical definitions of selected indicators of green behaviour. The practical part summarizes the information obtained from interviews with representatives of retail chains and analyse customer behaviour through a questionnaire survey. The main finding of the thesis is that although retail chains use green marketing, customer's purchasing decisions is not affected by this type of marketing. Customers prefer a price range and distance to stores from the residence or from the working place. The thesis also found that each chain has its clients, who have the same features of behaviour.

The dissertation consists of three empirical papers in institutional microeconomics. The first paper examines the role of institutional quality in international trade, the second paper focuses on unintended consequences of intellectual property rights for social welfare, and the last one addresses the impact of banking on corporate financing and investment. An introductory chapter puts these three papers into perspective. In the first paper I analyze the role of institutions in price dispersion among cities in the European region in the 1996-2009 period. Using a number of institutional quality measures I find that the better the institutions, the lower the predicted dispersion. The result is robust to different specifications of the regression model and is consistent with a hypothesis that arbitrage, as an entrepreneurial activity and the main power behind the law of one price, is influenced by institutional quality. In the second paper I use a large data set of U.S. patents applied for between 1980 and 2007 by 22 large technology companies to study development of strategic patenting over time and across industries. The dissertation deals with the topic of the mutual trade balance between the Czech Republic and Japan. The main focus is to find the causes of contemporary state of the mutual trade balance. The dissertation research which factors influence it and which factors will influence it in the future and how will the mutual trade balance probably develop in the future. The partial aim of this thesis is to find the possibilities of a concrete company to enter the Japanese market with reference to the market barriers. The dissertation firstly provides the theoretical information includes the topics of the economical development of Japan, Japanese external trade and also the trade between the Czech Republic and Japan. Then there are analyzed various entry barriers of the Japanese market. All the barriers are considered firstly generally and afterward they are applied on the concrete company, which contemporary thinks to enter the Japanese market. There are also discussed other factors, which are important in regard to entry the Japanese market as is transport, the business risk etc. The next part covers the causes of the contemporary mutual trade balance and the possibilities of its future development and possible equalization. There are analyzed factors, which influence the most the mutual trade balance between the Czech Republic and Japan.

Since the beginning of the Syrian crisis five years ago Syria, its neighbouring countries as well as the western world have been affected by the tremendous casualties brought about by the war. The thesis examines various forms and scale of these casualties, namely the economic, social, political and environmental implications. In its first part the thesis identifies true reasons and motives behind the Syrian crisis so that one can understand actions taken by involved actors. Subsequent to it is a detailed presentation of data on economic and social consequences of the Syrian war. Having all the crucial information on table the third chapter attempts to answer a hypothesis that Syria despite the still ongoing bloody conflict holds big potential for dynamic and long-term economic growth. This work deals with the economics of sports organizations and the overall analysis of the current state of funding for sport in the Czech Republic, its benefits, health benefits, and also comparison with other countries within the European Union. The main sponsor of sport in the Czech Republic is the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports, which in co-operation with the umbrella organizations reallocate resources to support sports through grant programs. The goal of this thesis is to analyze the management of two key umbrella organizations and representatives of Czech sports the Czech Olympic Committee and the Czech Union of Sport and to propose recommendations for improving the system of redistribution of funds, including the definition of the highest sports authority, which is will be able to represent the interests of the sport towards international institutions, legislative bodies, government institutions, regional and district authorities, lottery companies or potential sponsors.
