January 2011 (has links)
The aim of this dissertation is to explore the intrinsic and synergistic connection between the narrative categories of space and focalization and its effect in novel The ambassadors (1998), by the American writer Henry James (1843-1916). The main theorists who will base this study are Iuri Lotman (1978) with A estrutura do texto artístico and Osman Lins (1976) with Lima Barreto e o espaço romanesco, regarding the literary space. To study the focalization, this research will explore notably The rhetoric of fiction, by Wayne C. Booth (1983), Discurso da narrativa, by Gérard Genette (1995) and Teoría de la narrativa, by Mieke Bal (2001). Thus, this analysis investigates how the focalization implies ambiguous interpretations regarding the central consciousness of the protagonist Lewis Lambert Strether and how the United States of America, England and France, from this perspective, are key elements for the transformation of the ambassador‟s first purpose, for the social and psychological portrayal of characters and for the evocation of memories / Mestre

Bardoňová, Martina January 2015 (has links)
The present work is a contribution to the history of the Early modern diplomacy and early modern diplomatic practics. The subject of this work is the diplomatic misson of Baltasar de Zúñiga at imerial court (1608-1617). The study focuses on description of embassy functioning based on an analyses of official documents produced by the embassy itself, which were in several instances complemented by some of the documents produced by the Spanish governmental bureucracy such as, instructions, credentials, consultas or correspondence addressed to the hands of ambassador Baltasar de Zúñiga. As such, the present study is a kind of introspection, because it shows the functioning of a diplomatic mission from inside. The aim is to aswer the following questions. What part of the day-to-day work of a specific embassy could be seen, and controled by a sending government. How the chosen sources represent the basis of the Spanish policy in the Holy Roman Empire, the instruments used to increase the reputation of the Spanish king and the reputation of the ambassaror himself.

Intermediary of Opposites/Turkish Embassy at Washington D.C.

Targutay, Toygar 28 April 2000 (has links)
The objective of this thesis is not only to design a building or investigate an idea, but also to explore and learn to appreciate what is truly important and, hope- fully, to discover that part of truth which may lead us to a serenity in our souls. My entire struggle is basically to try to achieve a comprehension of the order of nature. At some point in my life as an architect, if I have to build an artifact, that artifact should remind people of the everlasting merits of the invisible world and awaken the imagination of others in the pursuit of truth. This book recounts the attempt to articulate an idea, one which I believe to be a part of the order of nature, into the design environment. / Master of Architecture
