La vie musicale à l’Ambassade de France près le Saint-Siège (1724-1791) / Musical life in the French Embassy to the Holy See (1724-1791) / La vita musicale all’ambasciata francese presso la Santa Sede (1724-1791)

Berti, Michela 06 December 2010 (has links)
During the 18th century, the French embassy to the Holy See was one of the most important production centres of music, soirée, masquerade and festivity. All this was to celebrate Monarchy's and “Roi Très-Chrétien”'s glory and greatness. The aim of this study is to examine the role of music in French Institutions in Rome during this period. In particular, this study provides large documentation to investigate the events in which the music was performed, the purpose of the use of music during these events and to characterize places, conditions and times of the musical performanceThe main contribution of this study is the analysis of the new music commissioned in honour of the french royal family by the French ambassadors in the Holy See.More complex is the analysis of the events in which music was traditionally “linked” to the french festivities: this is the case of the feasts organized for the 25th August in honor of St. Louis or the 13th December in honour of St. Lucia. In these two occasions festivity was traditionally commissioned by the ambassadors who also sustain the financial costs of the entire celebration.During the period between 1724 and 1791, the ambassadors of France in Rome made use of the musical art to promote themselves and gain appreciation for their principal duty: to represent their king with luxury and extraordinary generosity in order to acquire the consideration appreciation of the entire roman Court.

Un exercice de diplomatie chez l'ennemi : l'ambassade de France à Berlin, 1871-1933 / An exercise in diplomacy with the enemy : the french embassy in Berlin 1871-1933

Aballéa, Marion 23 June 2014 (has links)
Between 1871 and 1933, the French embassy in Berlin was, seen from France, an embassy sent to the main enemy, and, seen from Germany, the nest of the main enemy in Berlin. Mistrust was the ground principle of the relationship between Paris and Berlin, forcing those representing France in imperial and Weimar Germany to face the obstacles, contradictions and frustrations resulting from a diplomatic mission in an unwelcoming city, and whose goals were not clearly stated. How, in these circumstances, can diplomacy be practiced on a daily basis? Our work aims at answering the question, wandering through the kitchens, the offices as well as the ballroom of the embassy, trying to figure out what the daily life of the French microcosm on the Pariser Platz looked like. Emphasizing how the embassy was, at the same time, confronting French-German rivalry, working around and trying to overcome it, the study sheds light on the meaning, the purpose, the possibilities and the limits of residence diplomacy on hostile ground.

School and social integration of adolescents residing in Athens

Rerak, Monika Barbara 19 May 2011 (has links)
The concept of social integration has gained prominence in the social and policy debates all over the Europe. Children of immigrants, constituting a significant percentage of modern population of European Union, go through some demanding changes in their processes of social and school integration. As the number of immigrants in Greece is growing, it is of high importance to identify, examine, and understand problems that young immigrants living in this country might have. Our research investigates social and school integration of adolescents’ from Polish immigration families residing in Athens, Greece. By this project we wish to build and advance beyond the current research and contribute to existing knowledge in the field of social integration. The study is based on a qualitative research method relying on semi-structured, in–depth interviews with 12 young respondents from Greek and Polish high schools in Athens. The results indicate that the level of social integration of adolescent Poles is various and depends on the school that young people attend extracurricular activities they participate in, social networks within Greek population, parents’ socioeconomic status and Greek language competency. In case of respondents from the Group of Polish schools at Polish Embassy in Athens observed level of integration was lower, than in the group of pupils from Greek schools.

Tradice a současnost česko-dánských vztahů / Tradition and present of the Czech-Danish relations

Lukaštíková, Iva January 2008 (has links)
The diploma thesis describes and analyses relations between the Czech state and the Kingdom of Denmark. It is focused on the time period from the Middle Ages till today, however the key part examines the 20th century. The diploma thesis comprises several areas of the Czech-Danish relations, mainly deals with the political and diplomatic affairs and focuses also on economic and cultural connections. Due to lack of printed sources the thesis draws from the materials of the Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and is therefore the first comprehensive overview of the relations between these two states.

Češi na Kubě v širším kontextu vzájemných vztahů / Czechs on Cuba in the Wider Context of Mutual Relations

Kráčmarová, Kateřina January 2021 (has links)
The work studies a very specific period of the Czech-Cuban relations: the period of World War II and the Czechoslovakian refugees in Havana. For its creation, materials from two archives were used: the Archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, the so-called "London Archive" which keeps the documentation of the Czechoslovak government in exile, and the National Archive of Cuba. In the first half of the 20th century, Cuba was not for the Czech society a distant country on the other side of the world. It was its partner and competitor on the world sugar market, and the echoes of Cuban independence were still fresh in its memory. The young Czechoslovak republic was looking for markets for its industrial and consumer products, while Cuban exports generally did not exceed a few dozen tons of unroasted coffee. In the inter-war period, some 20 Czechs and Slovaks were living in Cuba. The Munich Treaty, the occupation and then the application of the Nuremberg Laws created an atmosphere of suffocation and drastically reduced the living space for the Jewish population in the occupied territory of Czechoslovakia. Many decided to leave their homeland, but the world around them was unwilling to receive larger numbers of Jewish refugees. The original idea of getting to a safe place beyond...

Transparency and learning spaces

Finau, Emily 08 April 2011 (has links)
This thesis explores the various meanings and implications of transparency in architecture and in learning environments in particular. Architectural transparency, achieved through choice of materials and principles of formal composition, creates a diversity of relationships and can facilitate visual, conceptual, and functional clarity as well as offering simultaneous perception of different spaces. It offers a range of phenomenological qualities and so provides an opportunity to explore and complicate such dichotomies as translucency and opacity, openness and closure, and public space and private space. While celebrated throughout modern and contemporary architecture, transparency raises issues of privacy and safety even as it breaks down hierarchies and social boundaries. The research-based design of transparency in a school building necessitates careful planning to achieve a balance between the access to views, natural light, fresh air, and social interaction that transparency may bring and the continuing obligation to provide a safe, secure environment for schoolchildren.
