Theoretical approach of freeze seawater desalination on flake ice maker utilizing LNG cold energy

Cao, W., Beggs, Clive B., Mujtaba, Iqbal M. 29 September 2014 (has links)
Yes / In this work, a novel concept in freeze desalination (FD) was introduced. Nowadays the total liquefied natural gas (LNG) production capacity has reached 290 Megatons per year. Its enormous cold energy released from re-gasification can be used in the freeze desalination process to minimize the overall energy consumption. A process of FD on flake ice maker utilizing LNG cold energy was designed and simulated by HYSYS software. An ice bucket on flake ice maker was chosen as seawater crystallizer mainly due to its continuous ice making and removing ice without heat source. A dynamic model of the freezing section has been developed and simulated through gPROMS software. The results show that the consumption of 1 kg equivalent LNG cold energy can obtain about 2 kg of ice melt water. In addition, it is shown that the power consumption of this LNG/FD hybrid process is negligible.

An Agent-Based Model of Ant Colony Energy and Population Dynamics: Effects of Temperature and Food Fluctuation

Xiaohui, Guo 01 August 2014 (has links)
The ant colony, known as a self-organized system, can adapt to the environment by a series of negative and positive feedbacks. There is still a lack of mechanistic understanding of how the factors, such as temperature and food, coordinate the labor of ants. According to the Metabolic Theory of Ecology (MTE), the metabolic rate could control ecological process at all levels. To analyze self-organized process of ant colony, we constructed an agent-based model to simulate the energy and population dynamics of ant colony. After parameterizing the model, we ran 20 parallel simulations for each experiment and parameter sweeps to find patterns and dependencies in the food and energy flow of the colony. Ultimately this model predicted that ant colonies can respond to changes of temperature and food availability and perform differently. We hope this study can improve our understanding on the self-organized process of ant colony.

Dynamická viskozita elektroizolačních kapalin / Dynamic viscosity of electroinsulating liquids

Míka, Petr January 2013 (has links)
This work deals with persepective environmentally friendly electroinsulating liquids. Important properties of currently used electroinsulating liquids are listed. Physical nature of viscosity of liquids and its temperature dependance are described and methods of its measuring are listed. Also temperature dependance of density is described from physical point of view. Measurement of density and of temperature dependance of viscosity of chosen vegetable and mineral oils was performed. On the basis of this measurement was calulated the activation energy of these samples. Two methods of dynamic viscosity measurement were used for some samples.

Análise da transferência de carga em estacas cravadas em argila mole à partir de provas de carga dinâmica de energia crescente / Load transfer analysis in driven piles in soft clay from increasing energy dynamic loading tests

Balech, Jean 31 March 2000 (has links)
The use of analysis methods to control pile behavior employing the Stress-Wave Theory from results of dynamic pile driving measurements has evolved in recent years. After important considerations about the increasing energy dynamic loading test and the load transfer mechanism, CAPWAP analyses are proceed in a pilework with objective of analyzing the behavior of the pile-soil system before the application of growing levels of energy. Therefore, they are presented in this dissertation, the results of the behavior of several isolated pile-soil systems in soft clay formation, submitted to the dynamic loading test of growing energy. Among the analyses, load transfer diagrams, local friction, quake, dynamic tensions, and the correlation between static and dynamic loading test are presented.
