Numerical Simulations Of Installation Effects Caused By Upstream Elbows On Single-path Transit-time Ultrasonic Flare Flow Meters

MARTINS, R. S. 23 May 2012 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-08-29T15:32:56Z (GMT).

Optimised Reasoning for SHIQ

Horrocks, Ian, Sattler, Ulrike 24 May 2022 (has links)
The tableau algorithm implemented in the FaCT knowledge representation system decides satisfiability and subsumption in SHIQ, a very expressive description logic providing, e.g., inverse and transitive roles, number restrictions, and general axioms. Intuitively, the algorithm searches for a tree-shaped abstraction of a model. To ensure termination of this algorithm without comprimising correctness, it stops expanding paths in the search tree using a so-called 'double-blocking' condition.

Kant and the Ground(s) of Dignity: The Centrality of the Fact of Reason

Britton, William 12 August 2016 (has links)
Kant famously claims that autonomy is the ground of dignity. If he is correct about the grounding relationship, then doubts about our autonomy entail doubts about our dignity. Here, I attempt to show that Kant is sensitive to this problem, and invokes the ‘fact of reason’ (Faktum der Vernunft) as the key piece of evidence for our autonomy, and therefore our dignity. But as is well known, Kant’s appeal to the Faktum is controversial. After presenting an exegetical case for the connection between dignity and the fact of reason, I respond to two prominent criticisms of Kant’s strategy in the Critique of Practical Reason in attempt to defend Kant’s use of the Faktum, and hence to preserve his conception of the dignity of humanity.

Promlčení jako právní skutečnost / Limitations of actions as a legal fact

Paulů, Marek January 2015 (has links)
Limitation as a legal fact Legal institute of limitation has been a part of the legal system since the days of Roman law, yet it is not a legal relic, which in the modern concept of rights had their place. Limitation is a legal institute that is an integral part of modern legislation and whose meaning in law is a proven tradition of more than fifteen hundred years. The aim of this thesis is to give a comprehensive explanation about the institute of limitation in civil law. This thesis divided into five chapters approaches the status of limitation among other legal facts, subjecting it to a thorough analysis, gives the view on the concept of limitation de lege lata and its evolution in our country through historic civil law codification and compares its approach with adjustments in selected European countries. The first chapter discusses general information about legal facts which are divided by traditional keys and on the basis of this division and between them rest the institute of limitation. The second chapter defines the concept of limitation, refers to its meaning, analyzes its components, tests subjects objection of forfeiture accordance with good manners, calculates the rights that are subject to limitation and states that are contrary legislature declared inviolable. This chapter also...

The fate of posterior debt in french and OHADA' law

Saley Sidibe, Harouna 30 September 2013 (has links)
Creditors are the keystone of the firm’s activity. Indeed, they are still being the natural and primordial partner of the firm’s activity. This situation is valid similarly for in bonis Firms and for those which fell out bankrupt. According to French law, in the 6th book of the commercial law, and Organization for Harmonization of Business Law in Africa (OHADA)’s system, at the instigation of the uniform act on bankruptcy (AUPC), posterior creditors are those who enable ailing firm to eliminate financial stagnation. In the same time, posterior creditors are those who accepted to finalize a partnership with the firm in trouble, instead of its difficulties, so as to finance activity’s pursuit or to support to gain a sustainable solution. To understand and to analyze the fate of posterior creditor in both studying legal systems, it has been necessary to answer two main questions endowed with a certain technical nature. Firstly, what is a posterior debt? And secondly, how are posterior creditors treated by bankruptcy law? Answering to those questions took out likenesses and divergences between French law and OHADA’s system as for the fate of posterior debt born in the later partnership establishes subsequently to the judgment of opening of bankruptcy.

Attributed Multi-Relational Attention Network for Fact-checking URL Recommendation

You, Di 11 July 2019 (has links)
To combat fake news, researchers mostly focused on detecting fake news and journalists built and maintained fact-checking sites (e.g., Snopes.com and Politifact.com). However, fake news dissemination has been greatly promoted by social media sites, and these fact-checking sites have not been fully utilized. To overcome these problems and complement existing methods against fake news, in this thesis, we propose a deep-learning based fact-checking URL recommender system to mitigate impact of fake news in social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook. In particular, our proposed framework consists of a multi-relational attentive module and a heterogeneous graph attention network to learn complex/semantic relationship between user-URL pairs, user-user pairs, and URL-URL pairs. Extensive experiments on a real-world dataset show that our proposed framework outperforms seven state-of-the-art recommendation models, achieving at least 3~5.3% improvement.

Dark Aemilia and inventing Shakespeare

O'Reilly, Sally Anne January 2012 (has links)
Motivation: When I set out to write a novel about Shakespeare’s Dark Lady, I wanted the focus to be on her, not the Bard. However, as I developed the idea, I realised that his character was an essential component of the narrative. So how should I set about ‘inventing’ such an iconic character? In addition, how relevant were earlier versions – biographical and fictional – to this project? Though I found a wealth of material about Shakespeare and his plays, I discovered there is a substantial sub-genre of Shakespeare invention. As a writer new to historical fiction, this felt a little like putting Jesus Christ into a story – and it turned out that some writers have given Shakespeare a distinctly Messianic character. Methods: In order to invent my own version of Shakespeare, I needed to assimilate what had gone before. The line between fact and fiction was blurred, but I clarified what was known and what unknown, and established what was myth. I then researched fourteen fictional versions of Shakespeare, starting with Kenilworth (Sir Walter Scott, Constable & Co, 1821) and ending with Shakespeare’s Memory (Jorge Luis Borges, Penguin, 2001). Results: My discovery was that the invention of history is a complex imaginative and intellectual process, but each writer solves a succession of challenges in their own way. Identifying these challenges helped me to create a new Shakespeare, and to clarify my own reasons for writing this particular novel. Conclusions: Far from being a form which is nostalgic, escapist or conservative, historical fiction is continually re-inventing itself in the light of the events and ideas which are contemporary to the writer. The continuing evolution and re-acquisition of the character of William Shakespeare is an illustration of its perennial significance.

The Rise and Impact of Fact-Checking in U.S. Campaigns

January 2015 (has links)
abstract: Do fact-checks influence individuals' attitudes and evaluations of political candidates and campaign messages? This dissertation examines the influence of fact-checks on citizens' evaluations of political candidates. Using an original content analysis, I determine who conducts fact-checks of candidates for political office, who is being fact-checked, and how fact-checkers rate political candidates' level of truthfulness. Additionally, I employ three experiments to evaluate the impact of fact-checks source and message cues on voters' evaluations of candidates for political office. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Political Science 2015
