Family Perspectives of the Professional-Paraprofessional Partnership Model of Home-Based Early Intervention Service Delivery

Walters, Amy Sanford 01 May 1994 (has links)
Current legislation regarding early intervention services has focused on the family unit, rather than the individual child, as the recipient of services. A model of family-centered care has been adopted and as a result, new models for service delivery have been developed. The present study examined family perspectives of the professional-paraprofessional partnership model, and assessed the ecological validity of this model as it relates to the basic principles of family-centered care. Families who participated in an early intervention program that utilized the professional-paraprofessional partnership model were interviewed upon program completion. Families reported receiving a wide range of child and family services, as well as assistance from their home visitor in accessing formal and informal resources within their community. Families recognized and positively responded to visitors who were flexible, supportive, and respectful of their family. A positive relationship was found between the number of family services received and ratings of the home visitor on variables of flexibility, support, and control. The majority of families described the home visiting service as the most helpful service they received. In addition, there were no differences in the services provided by professional and paraprofessional visitors, as reported by families. Overall, family reports indicated parent satisfaction with the professional-paraprofessional partnership model, and this model was found to meet the proposed family-centered objectives for early intervention services.

Att vara anhörig : Palliativ vård i hemmet ur anhörigas perspektiv, en litteraturstudie / To be a close one : Home based palliativer care, the relatives experiences, a literature review

Storinder, Robin, Sjödin, Johan January 2020 (has links)
Background: Sweden's population is expected to grow, studies show that many would prefer to die at home over institutional place of care. Good palliative care requires accessibility and competence and is designed from the four cornerstones. Patients feel a stress over involving relatives in their situation, therefore it is important to find out how the relatives view the situation. Aim: The purpose of this study is describing relatives' experiences of palliative care at home. Methods: Literature study based on nine qualitative studies. Data were collected from the Cinahl and Psycinfo databases. Keywords forming the correct search string contained: palliative care, family, family perspective etc. With boundaries such as english text and year: 2000-2020. Analysis was performed according to a five-step analysis. Result: Two main themes were identified with three sub-themes respectively. Participation and Relationships were the main themes. Sub-themes consisted of: Change in everyday life; Responsibility; Sufficient or incomplete information; The relationship with formal caregivers; The relationship with other relatives and friends; The relationship with the patient. Conclusion: At home caretakers should always keep in mind that the relatives who live, or temporarily live, together with the patient are also part of the care that needs support, help and information.

An Examination of Perceptions for Family Acculturation, Family Leisure Involvement, and Family Functioning among Mexican-Americans

Christenson, Owen D. 30 June 2004 (has links) (PDF)
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between acculturation and aspects of family functioning (cohesion and adaptability) and family leisure involvement from Mexican-American parent, youth, and family perspectives. Acculturation of parents, youth, and families was measured using the Bidimensional Acculturation Scale for Hispanics (BAS). Family leisure involvement was measured using the Family Leisure Activity Profile (FLAP). Aspects of family functioning were measured using the Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scales (FACES II). Sociodemographic variables such as age, gender, generation, family size, income, and education were also used to help predict levels of acculturation for family perspectives. The sample was obtained from communities in Texas and Utah and consisted of 74 Mexican-American families, including a parent and child from each family. Differences were found in measures of family leisure involvement and family functioning between Mexican-Americans and normative samples of Anglo-Americans. Findings suggest that family leisure involvement, aspects of family functioning, and sociodemographic variables helped to predict parent, youth, and family perspectives of acculturation. The independent and sociodemographic variables also helped to discriminate levels of acculturation for parents, youth, and families. Recommendations are given for commercial and community recreation programs targeting Mexican-American families, in addition to implication for further research.
