Commercially available boron triiodide (stated to be 99.9% pure) was flash photolysed and found to contain a high level of impurity. After a lengthy purification procedure the sample was still too impure to be of use. Boron triiodide was, therefore, prepared by several methods and shown to be free of impurities by mass spectrometry. A detailed study of these preparative methods has removed many of the ambiguities present in the existing literature. The absorption spectrum of the water sensitive pure B13 vapour was recorded over the range 650-200nm and shown to consist of six absorption maxima ie. transitions to six electronic states of the B13 molecule were detected.

The opera is scored for chamber orchestra consisting of one oboe, two Bb clarinets, two horns in F, one trumpet in C, one tenor trombone, two percussionists (playing snare drum, bass drum, tambourine, wood block, triangle, suspended cymbal, crash cymbal, agogo bells, cow bell, brake drum, metal whistle, whip, large gong, Glockenspiel, chimes, timpani in F (low) and C), eight or more violins in two parts, six or more violas in two parts, and eight or more cellos in two parts. The characters are Alejandro Jiminez, a dramatic tenor; the Manager of Burger Palace, a baritone; the Suits 1/Fast Food Workers, a choir (SATB) and the Suits 2/Customers, a second choir (SATB), each ideally consisting of eight vocalists for a total of sixteen; the Daydream Figures, which are mimed parts; the Man with Gun, which is a spoken part. The opera, in one act consisting of six scenes and an interlude, is based on a libretto by the composer. There is only one scene change: from an essentially empty stage to a fast food restaurant in Scene 4. The length of the work is approximately sixty to sixty-five minutes.

This paper examines the changing nature of the quick-service food industry. From the introduction of the drive-in restaurant to the advent of the fast food industry to the niche market of fast casual dining we focus on the competitive environment that is clearly representative of a growing demand from value conscious consumers. Coupled with the economic growth post World War II, consumer preferences for fast and easy food options fueled the growth of the fast food industry. But not until the 1990's did we see competition for fast food firms from the fast casual niche sparked by changing consumer preferences. Most recently we see a merge between fast casual and fast food firms. We identify the difference between fast casual and fast food firms through a deep analysis of two of the most successful fast casual firms: Chipotle and Panera. By dissecting their cost structures it is clear where these firms succeed and by means of representation where fast casual firms have been most proficient at selling the new market idea. Then we dive into the areas in which fast food firms have adjusted their business models to attain market share back from fast casual firms. Some fast food firms have been successful while others fall by the wayside. Essentially, changing the identity of fast food to not only cheap and fast but also socially dignified and consumer driven. The firms that have been successful have pressured profit margins of fast casual firms and causing them to fast to meld business identities towards fast food firms. The result is a consolidation of the quick service market that has sparked the emergence of larger corporation as it becomes harder to survive.
