In colonial Brazil, the just death of her second Philippine requirements and after independence, she continued this in criminal code of 1830. And, as if only a law wasn't enough, another was established in June 10, 1835 to penalize with the concise death the owners’ murderers slaves. From the records of speeches of the sessions of the Chamber of Deputies and of the Senate brought the discussion parliamentary debates which have introduced the death as one of the penalties in criminal processes using Empire; and court orders of interpretation we identified facts and law enforcement could be distorted when the defendant was a slave and how the sentences almost always on the last penalty resulted; yet with journals and Chronicles of the time we analyze the rumbles of the agglomeration of individuals at the foot of the gallows and as if they gave some of the executions in Pernambuco. If the death penalty was not something daily, also was not as rare as well, because we capture some characters that were forgotten, lacking history. The triad criminal-punishment bondage began there is some time be elaborated in Brazilian history, however, when talking about the death penalty the slaves, we realize that the history of Brazilian Justice has much yet to be studied.

A Phylogenetic Revision of Superfamily Himerometroidea (Echinodermata: Crinoidea)

Taylor, Kristian 26 August 2015 (has links)
Superfamily Himerometroidea AH Clark, 1908 (Echinodermata: Crinoidea) (formerly Mariametroidea) is the second most speciose superfamily in order Comatulida. Although it includes some of the most common species on tropical western Pacific reefs, its phylogeny is poorly understood. Genus- to species-level taxa are currently distinguished by plastic morphological characters. We revised the superfamily from species- to family-levels using a combined morphological and molecular approach. A phylogeny using two nuclear and three mitochondrial markers recovered Colobometridae and Himerometridae as paraphyletic and Mariametridae and Zygometridae as polyphyletic. Within genus Himerometra (Himerometridae), sequence data and detailed morphological examinations of multiple specimens of H. magnipinna, H. martensi and H. robustipinna indicated that these three taxa are conspecific. A similar examination of specimens attributed on morphological grounds to the genera Dichrometra, Liparometra and Lamprometra (Mariametridae) revealed a lack of substantial enough sequence and morphological differences to maintain them as distinct genera. We have synonymized all three genera and redescribed four species under the senior name Dichrometra. Additional work is needed to more clearly establish characters that will diagnose clades across the superfamily. This study illustrates the importance of reevaluating classifications that incorporate ecophenotypically and ontogenetically variable characters.

Intenzita bakteriální zátěže v peří a jeho rezistence proti bakteriální degradaci u tropických druhů ptáků afromontánních oblastí Kamerunu / An intensity of plumage bacterial load and resistence against bacteria-caused feather degradation in tropical birds of Afromontane areas of Cameroon

Kyptová, Markéta January 2017 (has links)
Microorganisms are considered to be a significant selective factor affecting bird's life strategies. The body cover, including feather, is occupied by a wide range of bacteria that are in their host in different interactions. Group of microorganisms degradate keratins of feather is still most studied and most species of birds have them in feather. This feather degrading bacteria can disrupt the wear and its function and thus cause great losses to its fitness. Therefore, it seems likely that these feathers degrading bacteria and microorganisms generally play a significant role in creating defence mechanisms against their negative effects. One of the most important defence mechanisms to protect feathers against the action of microorganisms is the deposition of melanin pigments. This diploma thesis deals with the analysis of the total bacterial load in feathers and its resistance against bacterial degradation in 47 species of birds trapped in afromontan areas of western Cameroon. The specific aim of the thesis was to determine differences in the total number of bacteria in plumage in species with different life strategies, especially feeding and reproductive strategies. At the same time, the phtilochronological analysis of the quality of the plumage was performed and in vitro experiments were tested...

Latitudinální trend v rychlosti růstu per a koncentrace steroidních hormonů v peří ptáků / Latitudinal trend in feather growth rates and steroid hormone concentrations in avian feathers

Brzobohatá, Tereza January 2018 (has links)
Avian life histories range along the axis from slow to fast, with slow life histories being characterized by greater investments in future reproduction, and fast by greater investments in current reproduction. The concept of pace-of-life syndromes refers to the coevolution of life strategies and related physiological, immunological and behavioral traits. Avian species from tropical areas are characterised by slower life histories (longer parental care, later maturation, smaller clutches, reduced metabolic rate) when compared to temperate zone species. Within this latitudinal gradient, investments in the total amount (weight) of body feathers have also been shown to be reduced in tropical birds. It remains unclear, however, whether feather growth itself follows this latitudinal pattern, and is slower in tropical species. Tropical birds have lower basal levels of corticosterone and testosterone, however available studies are based mainly on analyzes of hormone concentrations from plasma. The first aim of this diploma thesis was to evaluate differences between tropical (Cameroon) and temperate zone (the Czech Republic) passerine species in investments in tail feather growth by using methods of comparative ptilochronology. The second aim of the diploma thesis was to analyze concentrations of steroid...

A Revision of the Genera of Charitometridae with Abruptly Expanded Genital Pinnules

Romanowski, Alois 01 July 2015 (has links)
Feather star (Echinodermata: Crinoidea: Comatulida) family Charitometridae has not been revised since 1950. Molecular analysis, new specimens of existing species, and the discovery of a new species has revealed the need for a generic-level revision of those genera that exhibit abruptly expanded genital pinnules. A morphological study was conducted using 57 specimens representing 10 species of the Charitometridae. The genus Poecilometra is redescribed, and two species formerly placed in Strotometra have been moved to the genus based primarily on possession of pedunculate genital pinnules and a wide flange on the first pinnular of the proximal pinnules. A new species was described: Poecilometra tibicinem n. sp. The genus Strotometra is redescribed based on its cirri and laterally expanded genital pinnulars and its extant two species synonymized under Strotometra parvipinna. An undescribed stereomic structure was discovered on the proximal brachial articulations in the medial angles of the muscular fossae in some specimens, but its taxonomic significance remains unresolved.

Flock-level risk factors of litter condition for the occurrence of plumage damage and skin lesions in commercial laying hen farms

Schreiter, Ruben, Freick, Markus 05 January 2024 (has links)
Plumage damage (PD) as a result of severe feather pecking (SFP) and skin lesions (SL) due to cannibalism (CA) is serious welfare, performance, and economic problems in commercial layer farms. Genetics, nutrition, and housing conditions are central complexes that contribute to the multifactorial causes of these behavioral disorders. Practical recommendations consider the quality of litter as an important criterion for the prevention of SFP, although systematic longitudinal studies providing evidence-based findings are lacking. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of litter condition on the occurrence of PD and SL in the field using a longitudinal design. Integument scoring (PD and SL; 7 times), litter scoring (structure, cake formation, litter quality, and litter height; 12 times), and laboratory litter analysis (dry matter (DM), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and pH value; 12 times) were performed in 28 laying hen flocks with a median flock size of 12,357 birds, in barn (n = 21) or free-range systems (n = 7), during the first laying period. Binary logistic regression (BLR) models showed the association of housing type and animal age on PD and SL (P < 0.001), and of the hybrid type on PD (P < 0.001). Furthermore, a significant association with PD and SL was observed for several litter traits. An increase in litter height, DM, and P was associated with lower PD (P ≤ 0.022) and SL (P < 0.001). In contrast, a higher N content of the litter was associated with an increase in SL (P = 0.007). Cake formation (P < 0.001) and a low structure (P = 0.025) of the litter showed an association with higher PD. In conclusion, this study identified caked litter with less structure, low height, and low contents of DM and P as risk factors for behavioral disorders in commercial laying flocks.
