Esta tese analisa as narrativas de sonhos proféticos no Portugal Moderno, entre 1600 e 1750. Investigou-se como se constituíram os principais temas oníricos, os corpos de sonhos mais citados e recorrentes, as interpretações e leituras de sonhos bíblicos e/ou de divulgação ampla. Procurou-se perceber quais os entendimentos e percepções de sonho (e profecia) que embasavam e estavam presentes nas narrativas oníricas portuguesas, observando o repertório de referências e textos oníricos e a circulação desses. Partindo da constatação que as narrativas oníricas participaram de modo capital na fundamentação do Sebastianismo e depois do Messianismo Brigantino, observou-se os imbricamentos dos sonhos com esses movimentos e crenças messiânico-proféticas, buscando entender os diversos projetos político-proféticos em e para Portugal durante esse período. / This thesis analises the prophetic dreams narratives in Modern Porugal between 1600 and 1750. Its goal was to investigate how the main onirical themes, the most recurrent dreams, the interpretations and readings of biblical dreams were constituted. It was sought to perceive what were the perceptions of dreams (and prophecies) which sustained and were present in the portuguese narratives, observing the repertory of onirical references and texts and its circulation. Assuming that dream narratives had a capital role in the formulation of Sebastianism and after that, Brigantine Messianism, the links between the dreams and these movements and prophetic messianic beliefs were observed, aiming to understand the diferent political projecs in and for Portugal during this period.

Neste contexto, obras proféticas como a Clavis Profetarum , a Apologia das coisas profetizadas e principalmente a História do Futuro foram úteis nesta empreitada. Tomando como ponto de referência este último escrito, observei que a obra de Vieira de ve ser enxergada em uma unidade e não em partes fragmen- tadas. O veio que une os escritos do jesuíta é a sua profecia, principalmente a referente ao Quinto Império. A busca desta concretização o m ove a tomar muitas decisões práticas dentro e fora do reino luso. Estas ações, muitas vezes explicitamente políticas, estão expressas em alguns de seus escritos (o Papel Forte , por exemplo), demonstrando o seu verdadeiro anseio de transformar o reino português no tão sonhado Quinto Império do mundo. / This study intends to show the pr ophetic bases of Vieira that allowed to make an analysis of his imperial project, specificly from the Fifth Empire. In this context, prophetic works like the Clavis Profetarum , the Apologia das coisas profetizadas and the História do Futuro were helpful in this research. Starting from this la st writing, I observed that Vieira ́s work should be seen uniquely and not as fragmented parts. The tie that unites the jesuit ́s writing is his prophecy, mainly the one that refers to the Fi fth Empire. The search for this concretization moves him to take many pratic decisions insi de and outside of the Portugal kingdom. These actions, many times explicitly politic, are expressed in some of his writings (the Papel Forte , for exemple), demonstrating his real desire to promote changes in the Portugal kingdom in the so dreamed Fifth Empire.

Between 1646 and 1667, the priest began writing the History of the Future, the first volume of the celebrated "Clavis Prophetarum , political and theological unity that would leverage the process of spread of Christianity across the globe, recognizing Portugal as forefront and center of all millenarian movement. Them, Jesuit represented the "World" in two metaphors: "theater" and "body" responsible for viewing spaces of abstract Christian truth. Starting from the hermeneutical assumptions of analysis, we investigated the historical relations present in the construction of such representations, by which establish the dialogue between politics, theology and seventeenth-century rhetoric. Therefore, the following study supports the hypothesis that beyond a mere stylistic expressions, spatial metaphors of "World" were formulated by Antonio Vieira as a resource that could sharpen the minds of his readers, engaging words into action, become alive and effective use of rhetoric / Emblem?tica figura hist?rica, Ant?nio Vieira (1608-1697) ? considerado um personagem indispens?vel para a hist?ria luso-brasileira. Entre os anos de 1646 e 1667, o padre iniciou a escrita da Hist?ria do Futuro, primeiro volume da c?lebre Clavis Prophetarum , obra que anunciava o surgimento do Quinto Imp?rio , unidade pol?tico-teol?gica que alavancaria o processo de difus?o do Cristianismo por todo o planeta, reconhecendo Portugal como vanguarda e centro de todo o movimento milenarista. Nelas, o jesu?ta representou o Mundo em duas met?foras: teatro e corpo , espa?os respons?veis pela visualiza??o da abstrata verdade crist?. Partindo dos pressupostos hermen?uticos de an?lise, investigamos as rela??es hist?ricas presentes na constru??o de tais representa??es, por meio das quais estabelecemos o di?logo entre a pol?tica, teologia e ret?rica seiscentista.
