Waste separation and perceptions of environmental health in a college student population

Nickels, Anna Foster 10 May 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Florists must analyze business practices to become environmentally savvy. This study investigated whether the introduction of sustainable waste practices into a college floral design course influenced the student’s perception of environmental health. Two groups of students enrolled in the basic floral design course at Mississippi State University completed a survey on environmental health at the start and end of the semester. One group sorted their lab wastes into compostable and landfill material. Results indicated students who separated their floral waste maintained the same level of environmental concern throughout the testing period while the environmental health scores of those who did not separate their waste declined. Secondly, results indicated participants that who did not separate their floral waste had lower mean scores from start to finish. Results indicated that students who separated floral waste had a higher environmental concern than those who did not separate their floral waste in the lab.

Three former florist students' experiences of secondary school -based on creativity, motivation, education and understanding

Westin, Malin January 2012 (has links)
This essay aims to highlight three former florist students' thoughts and experiences of its threeyear secondary school in the Handicraft, focusing florist. All three graduated from the same class in 2011 and is currently active florists. Respondents have been requested to answer questions based on four concepts: creativity, motivation, education and nderstanding. They believe they  have been widely reported during their internships in schools, to be creative, with the exception of one of respondents' experiences during the last year. But the conditions for being creative in school, have seen a little different. Both the physical and psychological environment, and relationships with teachers and other classmates, experience respondents have influenced their motivation to a great extent. All three talk warmly about their internships and raises them as an important key to really understand the profession's requirements. All three respondents have sought high ratings and thought during the whole program that they were important and served as a driving force, but they have not had the benefit of the grades after the fact. None of the respondents consider themselves to be sufficiently formed, either under their own definitions or according to what they feel society and industry, "expect" from them. Change and improvement points that were discussed were better photo opportunities, more plant science, more florist courses during the last year, always have a good budget and fresh material, the journeyman should be included in secondary education as a final exam and the opportunity to work more under time pressure and specific conditions rates and life-like client meetings.

An Ethnography of Gender at Work

Zinn, Isabelle 27 March 2017 (has links)
Enfin, en s’intéressant à leur organisation et aux épreuves que les professionnel·le·s traversent, cette thèse propose une lecture sociologique de deux métiers qui demeurent encore peu ou pas étudiés / Located at the intersection of the gender studies and the sociology of occupational groups, this thesis aims to explore when and how gender becomes a constituent part of workplace activities for two contrasting occupational groups: butchers and florists. Based on ethnographic fieldwork that focuses on the phenomenal organization of activities, it seeks to account for the ways in which gender becomes relevant to these professionals and their clients in the course of occupational interactions. It shows that the members of a statistically gender segregated occupation don’t always mobilize gender in the same way and don’t necessarily invest it with the same operative meaning. Therefore, even in contexts marked by profound gender asymmetries, it is important not to assume a constant relevance of gender and sex categories. Rather, it should be recognized that the gendered practices are likely to be quite specific to the occupational context under study. By focusing on the effects of the situation on the ways in which individuals “do gender”, this thesis makes an original contribution to the analysis of the processes of (de-)gendering professional activities. Finally, by studying the organization and professional experiences of butchers and florists, this thesis enhances our sociological reading of two occupations that have been little studied to date.
