Methods for detecting patterns of angler selective fishing behaviour in the long term recreational fishery statistics are presented in this Ph.D. Thesis. The motivating idea is that mainly different anglers' fishing preferences or attitudes towards particular fish species obstruct applying anglers' catches data for ongoing use in ichthyology research. Better recognising angler selectivity is therefore judged to be the key point from the viewpoint of fish and fishery sciences. Methods affecting angler behaviour can be directly applied by other specialists, e.g. social scientists. The thesis consists of five papers two of which are published (paper 1, 2), other two of which are accepted for publishing (paper 3, 4) and the last of which (paper 5) is in the status of manuscript before submitting. In the first two papers the role of common carp catches is focused. By using multivariate techniques it is studied if the increased exploitation of carp increases also the exploitation of other fish species. Time series of carp catches serve as an explanatory variable, other species catches through the same time are processed as independent variables. According to expectations the positive effect of carp catches on those of the other species was approved at the river section with the highest expected density...

Dans ces travaux de thèse, nous avons étudié les propriétés dynamiques et spectrales d’une diode laser puissante à 980 nm qui est soumise à un retour optique provenant d’un réseau de Bragg fibré (FBG). Dans cette configuration, le FBG est un élément clé de la thèse d’une part il permet de former une cavité externe par réflexion comme un miroir et d’autre part il est un filtre qui fournit un retour optique sélectif en fréquence (FOF : Filtered Optical Feedback) aux alentours de 980 nm. Nous nous sommes intéressé à étudier cette configuration FOF dans le cadre d’un projet de collaboration entre la société 3S Photonics Group et le Laboratoire de Physique des Lasers. Il s’agit plus particulièrement d’étudier expérimentalement les séries temporelles par un oscilloscope, les spectres RF par un analyseur de spectre RF et les spectres optiques par un analyseur de spectre optique et par un interféromètre Fabry-Perot, afin d’observer, identifier et comprendre ses comportements dynamiques, notamment fluctuations basses fréquences (LFF). Ce système laser FOF est très peu étudié et ces travaux de thèse permettront de nouvelles connaissances techniques ou scientifiques dans un domaine d’application relativement récent, notamment pour l’application dans les systèmes EDFA (Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier). / In this thesis, we have studied spectrums and the dynamics properties of a high-powerlaser diode emitting at 980 subject to optical feedback via a fibre Bragg grating (FBG). In such a configuration, FBG is a key element of this work because it establishes an ex-ternal cavity with a reflection like a mirror on one hand and it is a filter which provides frequency selective optical feedback (FOF : Filtered Optical Feedback) at around 980 nm on the other hand. We are interested in investigating this FOF configuration for a project in a collaboration between 3S Photonics Group and the Laboratoire de Physique des Lasers.In order to observe, identify and understand its dynamical behaviours, especially low frequency fluctuations (LFF), the experimental studies have been undertaken particularly with time series from an oscilloscope, RF spectra from an RF spectrum analyser and optical spectra from an optical spectrum analyser and Fabry-Perot interferometer. Onlyfew studies have been done with this FOF laser system and our thesis work may allow new technical and scientific understanding for recent application, particularly application to Erbium-doped fibre amplifier.

Neste trabalho investigamos pela primeira vez flutuações dependentes de spin em correntes eletrônicas polarizadas através de estruturas magnéticas. Nosso sistema físico consiste de uma heteroestrutura com tunelamento ressonante formada por um poço ou \"ponto\" quântico contendo Mn, confinado entre duas barreiras de potencial. Usamos um modelo semiclássico baseado em equações de taxa para calcular as ocupações dos estados ressonantes up e down. Estas equações são derivadas de uma equação mestra que descreve a probabilidade de ocupação dos estados de spin em um dado tempo. Funções correlação corrente-corrente são expressas em termos das funções correlação hop-hop (associadas à transições entre os níveis ressonantes up e down) e o shot noise dependente de spin é determinado em termos da matriz variância do sistema, também derivada da equação mestra. Our physical model consists of a resonant-tunneling heterostructure formed by a Mn-based quantum well or \"point\", confined between a double-barrier potential. We used a semiclassical model based on rate equations to calculate the occupations of the spin-up and spindown resonant states. These equations are derived from a master equation describing the probability of occupation of the spin states at a given time. Current-current correlation functions are expressed in terms of hop-hop correlation functions (for hops between islands representing the up and down states) and the spin-dependent shoi noise is determined in terms of the variance matrix of the system; also derived from the master equation. When we consider a polarized beam and distinctive times (τ ↑ ↓ ≠ τ ↓ ↑), we can obtain both \"positive correlations\" (‹ Δ ↑ Δ ↓ › ≥ 0) and \"negative correlations\" (‹ Δ ↑ Δ ↓ › ≤ 0) in our model. Étude de la contamination et de l'écotoxicité associée des sédiments de surface en zone littorale lacustre / Study of the contamination and the corresponding ecotoxicology of the surficial sediments in lake littoral zoneLécrivain, Nathalie 08 March 2019 (has links)
La zone littorale, de grande importance pour le fonctionnement écologique du lac, est souvent la première zone réceptrice de la contamination provenant du bassin versant. Cette pollution est majoritairement piégée dans les sédiments de surface. Pour autant, les conditions environnementales variables qui règnent en zone littorale sont susceptibles de favoriser la biodisponibilité des contaminants par le jeu des réactions physico-chimiques et biologiques. Cette thèse s’appuie sur l’étude de deux grands lacs péri-alpins, le Lac du Bourget et le Lac d’Annecy, pour mieux comprendre le comportement des polluants sédimentaires (ETM, HAP et PCB) en zone littorale lacustre. Nos travaux visent notamment (1) à caractériser la contamination littorale et l’influence des sources locales dans cette contamination, (2) à évaluer l’écotoxicité des sédiments littoraux et les changements de mobilité et de biodisponibilité des polluants sédimentaires sous l’influence de changements abiotiques de la zone littorale tels que ceux induits par le marnage lacustre. Nos résultats montrent que la contamination des sédiments et organismes autochtones présente une hétérogénéité spatiale significative sur le littoral des deux lacs, tant en intensité qu’en composition (i.e. profil de contamination). L’implication de sources locales (e.g. eaux pluviales drainées sur le bassin-versant) dans cette hétérogénéité spatiale a été mise en évidence. L’écotoxicité des sédiments de la zone littorale, évaluée via la réponse de biomarqueurs enzymatiques (AChE, GST), physiologiques (e.g. taux d’ingestion chez D. magna) et des traits de vie (e.g. taux de croissance, reproduction et survie) présente également une hétérogénéité spatiale significative. La biodisponibilité des ETM sédimentaires a été plus spécifiquement étudiée aux interfaces sédiment-eau-biote. Elle varie selon l’élément, le biote exposé (benthique ou pélagique) et sous l’effet du marnage. L’assèchement et remise en eau du sédiment littoral s’accompagnent d’une réduction de la fraction biodisponible des ETM. L’abaissement de la hauteur d’eau, en revanche, entraîne une accentuation de la remise en suspension de particules sédimentaires susceptibles d’exercer un risque écotoxicologique sur le biote littoral. Nos résultats soulignent la complexité de la contamination littorale et de son transfert dans les grands lacs péri-alpins et encouragent les approches écotoxicologiques dans l’évaluation de l’état écologique. / The littoral zone of lakes is of great ecological importance and yet receives a large array of contaminants from the watershed. This pollution is mainly trapped by the surface sediment, but its bioavailability may be allowed by physico-chemical and biological reactions in this zone of high environmental fluctuations. This work aims at improving knowledge about the behavior of sediment-borne contaminants (trace metals, PAHs and PCBs) in the lake littoral zone by using two large perialpine lakes; Lake Bourget and Lake Annecy. More precisely, our goals were to (1) characterize the littoral contamination and the influence of local sources in this contamination, (2) assess the ecotoxicity of the sediment-borne contamination and the main changes in its mobility and bioavailability under abiotic changes in the littoral zone, such as those related to water-level fluctuations in lakes. The contamination of the sediments and native organisms exhibited a significant spatial heterogeneity along the lake littoral, in both intensity and profile’s composition. The involvement of local sources of contamination (e.g. stormwater runoff) as drivers of this spatial heterogeneity has been highlighted. The ecotoxicity of littoral sediments was assessed through the responses of enzymatic biomarkers (AChE and GST), physiological traits (e.g. ingestion rates in D. magna) and life-history traits (e.g. growth, reproduction and survival rates). Our results also underscored a significant spatial heterogeneity of the littoral sediment ecotoxicity. A greater focus on the bioavailability of trace metals at the sediment-water-biota interfaces showed that bioavailability depends on the metal, the exposed biota (benthic vs pelagic) and fluctuate under water-level fluctuations. Drought and re-immersion of surface sediments were followed with a reduction of the bioavailable fractions of the trace metals. However, decreases in the water-level led to increase suspended sediments in the water column, which may exert an ecotoxicological risk for the littoral biota. Our results underline how complex the littoral contamination and bioavailability are and promote ecotoxicological approaches in the assessment of the ecological status of large lakes.

Characterizing magnetic noise of AUV for use in towed magnetometer study of internal wavesUnknown Date (has links)
As part of a project to study internal waves, FAU plans to utilize an AUV to tow a magnetometer to study electromagnetic signatures from internal waves. This research is focused on the electromagnetic noise issues related to using an AUV to tow the magnetic sensor package. There are active sources of electromagnetic noise caused by an AUV that are present in addition to those induced by the Earth's magnetic field and permanent magnets. To characterize the magnetic noise associated with the AUV magnetometer tow system, the various active source elements were identified, the orientation sensitivity of the sensors being used was determined, and the magnetic anomaly of a similar AUV which may be eventually be used in a magnetic sensing arrangement was measured. Simulating the dynamic interaction of an AUV and towed magnetometerUnknown Date (has links)
A magnetometer with a sensitivity of 0.01nT will be towed through the thermocline by a 2.87 meter long, 0.533 meter diameter autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) to measure the magnetic fluctuations generated by oceanic internal waves. At this point, no research has been found that suggests towed magnetometer measurements have been done using an AUV. Simulations of the AUV, tow cable, and towfish are performed to provide an understanding of the effects of changing different input parameters, such as towing speed (0.5-2m/s), cable length (5-15m), vehicle trajectory (circle and vertical zig zag maneuvers), and current (0.25-1.25m/s). The AUV-cabletowfish system and equations of motion needed for the simulations are described herein. Results show that a 5m tow cable provides better towfish maneuvering than the longer cable lengths. High towfish pitch angle is decreased by decreasing the distance between CG and CB. Nesta tese foi estudado o espalhamento Raman intensificado pela superfície (SERS) em regime de detecção de uma molécula em eletrodo de prata ativado por ciclos de oxidação e redução. Neste regime, de baixas concentrações, são observadas intensas flutuações de intensidade SERS as quais foram controladas neste substrato pela aplicação de potencial ao eletrodo, o que foi associado a alterações na concentração de moléculas adsorvidas na superfície do eletrodo. Além da dependência com o potencial aplicado, foram estudadas através de simulações Monte Carlo, a contribuição nestas flutuações da constante de adsorção das moléculas, do número de \"hot spots\" (regiões de altas intensificações SERS) e do tipo de \"hot spot\" (em termos de eficiência para detecção de espectros de uma molécula). Através destas simulações foram verificadas flutuações de intensidade muito semelhantes às observadas experimentalmente. Além das flutuações de intensidade foram também observadas flutuações de intensidades relativas, como por exemplo, das relações de intensidades anti-Stokes/Stokes, as quais foram interpretadas segundo um modelo de ressonância, através do qual foi possível estimar as energias de ressonância nos \"hot spots\". Alguns dos resultados indicaram a contribuição de ressonâncias finas, as quais foram interpretadas como resultado de interferências entre ressonâncias de plasmon de superfície. Interferências como estas foram demonstradas através de simulações pelo método DDA (\"Discrete Dipole appoximation\") em modelos simples de \"hot spots\" formados por nanobastões de Au. / In this thesis it was studied surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) at single-molecule detection on Ag electrode activated by oxidation and reduction cycles. At this low concentration limit it was observed strong SERS intensity fluctuations that were controlled by the applied potential to the electrode and this control was associated to changes in surface concentration of adsorbed molecules. Furthermore, it was studied through Monte Carlo simulations the influence of adsorption constant, number of \"hot spots\" (regions of high SERS enhancements) and type of \"hot pot\" (in terms of efficiency for single-molecule detection). With such simulations, it was verified fluctuations of SERS intensities very similar to experimental observations. Besides absolute intensity fluctuations, we also observed fluctuations of relative intensities as, for instance, the. anti-Stokes to Stokes intensity ratios. These fluctuations were interpreted according to a resonance model, which made possible the estimative of resonance energies at the SERS \"hot spots\". Some of these results indicated the existence of sharp resonances that were interpreted as a result of interferences among surface plasmon resonances, which were demonstrated through DDA (Discrete Dipole Approximation) simulations in simple models of \"hot spots\" formed by Au nanorods

Thermal energy harvesting from temperature fluctuations / Récupération d'énergie thermique à partir de variations de températureZhu, Hongying 29 September 2011 (has links)
Le développement des équipements portables, des réseaux de capteurs sans fil et systèmes auto-alimentés d'une manière générale génère une forte demande pour les dispositifs de récupération de micro-énergie. Une des voies les plus intéressantes pour auto-alimenter des dispositifs consiste à développer des systèmes recyclant l'énergie ambiante afin de renouveler sans cesse l'énergie consommée par le dispositif. En dehors de la récupération d'énergie électromécanique, il est également intéressant de convertir l'énergie thermique, qui est «disponible» partout, en énergie électrique. Au cours de cette thèse, la conversion d’énergie thermique en énergie électrique fondée sur des variations temporelles de température a été développée et améliorée. Parmi les matériaux ferroélectriques, des monocristaux de PZN-4.5PT et le terpolymère P(VDF-TrFECFE) 61.3/29.7/9 mol % ont été choisis comme matériaux actifs en raison de leurs propriétés remarquables sous champ électrique. En utilisant des cycles thermodynamiques intelligents, par exemple, Ericsson ou à cycle de Stirling, l'efficacité de la conversion de l'énergie pourrait être considérablement améliorée. Dans la première partie, la récupération d'énergie pyroélectrique en utilisant des monocristaux de PZN-4.5PT a été principalement étudiée sous deux aspects: l'effet de fréquence et des transitions de phase sur les cycles d’Ericsson. Il a été montré que l'énergie récupérée diminue de façon non linéaire avec une augmentation de la fréquence. De plus, l’utilisation optimale des transitions de phase pendant le cycle d’Ericsson permet d’améliorer grandement l’énergie récupérée en choisissant une gamme de température de travail appropriée. A partir de ces résultats, deux cycles d’Ericsson asymétriques (LH et HL) ont été réalisés avec succès. Avec les monocristaux de PZN-4.5PT, le cycle HL est le cycle le plus efficace pour la conversion d’énergie thermique en énergie électrique. La deuxième partie traite de la récupération d'énergie électrostatique via la variation non linéaire de la capacité du terpolymère P(VDF-TrFE-CFE) 61.3/29.7/9 mol %. Un cycle d’Ericsson a été réalisé entre 25 et 0°C et comparé à sa simulation à partir de la valeur de la constante diélectrique sous champ électrique DC. La concordance entre la simulation et l’expérience a prouvé la fiabilité de notre évaluation théorique. A partir de la simulation, l'énergie récupérée augmente jusqu'à 240 mJ/cm3 en appliquant un champ électrique de 80 kV/mm. Des cycles de Stirling et d’Ericsson ont également été simulés sous différentes variations de température et champ électriques. L'énergie récupérée augmente avec l’accroissment de la variation de température et de la valeur du champ électrique appliqué et ceci quelque soit le cycle réalisé. Contrairement au cycle d’Ericsson, un cycle de Stirling peut récupérer plus d'énergie pour une même énergie injectée. / The development of portable equipments, wireless sensors networks and self-powered devices in a general manner generates a strong demand for micro-energy harvesting devices. One of the most challenging ways to self power devices is the development of systems that recycle ambient energy and continually replenish the energy consumed by the system. Apart from electromechanical energy harvesting, it is also interesting to convert thermal energy, which is “available” everywhere, into suitable electrical energy. In this thesis, the thermal to electrical energy conversion from temperature fluctuations was developed and improved, and the feasibility of this technique was also confirmed by implementing the experimental experiment. Among different ferroelectric materials, PZN-4.5PT single crystal and P(VDF-TrFE-CFE) 61.3/29.7/9 mol% were chosen as active materials due to their outstanding properties under electric field. By means of some intelligent thermodynamic cycles, e.g., Ericsson or Stirling cycle, which has been presented in previous research, the efficiency of energy conversion could be improved greatly. In the first part, pyroelectric energy harvesting on PZN-4.5PT single crystals with an Ericsson cycle was mainly investigated from two aspects: frequency effect and phase transitions. It was shown that the harvested energy demonstrated a nonlinear decrease with an increase of frequency, and the optimal use of the phase transitions during the Ericsson cycle could greatly improve the harvested energy by choosing the appropriate working temperature range. Based on it, two asymmetric Ericsson models (L-H and H-L cycles) were attempted successfully, and it was confirmed that the H-L cycle is the most effective thermal energy harvesting cycle for this material. The second part concentrated on electrostatic energy harvesting by nonlinear capacitance variation on P(VDF-TrFE-CFE) 61.3/29.7/9 mol% terpolymer. Ericsson cycle was tested experimentally between 25 and 0°C and compared with the simulation from dielectric constant values obtained under DC electric field. The identical result between simulation and experiment proved the reliability of our theoretical evaluation. It was found, from simulation, that the harvested energy increased up to 240 mJ/cm3 when raising the electric field at 80 kV/mm. The further study on Ericsson and Stirling cycle was also made under different temperature and electric field conditions for evaluation. The harvested energy increases with the rising of temperature variation and electric field in both cycles, but in contrast to Ericsson cycle, Stirling cycle can harvest more energy for the same injected energy.

Previous issue date: 2017 / Resumo: Nesta tese, empregamos espectroscopia Raman para realizar um estudo detalhado dos fônons e das respostas eletrônicas em monocristais de LaFeAsO. Nós observamos as simetrias e frequências dos fônons nas fases tetragonal e ortorrômbica e também a dependência com a temperatura de um pico quase-elástico (do inglês: QEP) na simetria B1g com intensidade máxima em torno da transição magnética TN . A área e a altura do QEP B1g foram atribuídas às flutuações nemáticas de spin, enquanto que a largura do QEP B1g foi relacionada com taxa de relaxação dessas flutuações. Através da análise da largura do QEP B1g propomos que a transição estrutural esté relacionada a um congelamento gradual das flutuaçõees nemáticas de spin, o que deve ser um fenômeno geral presente nos demais supercondutores à base de Fe. Esse estudo foi complementado por medidas de espectroscopia Raman em BaFe2As2 e de difração de raios-X com luz síncrotron em LaFeAsO, BaFe2As2 e SrFe2As2 dopado com Co. Paralelamente, nós estudamos as estruturas cristalinas e magnéticas em compostos da série Ba1?xLaxTi1/2Mn1/2O3 através da técnica de difração de nêutrons / Abstract: In this thesis, we employed Raman spectroscopy to perform a detailed study of the phonons and electronic responses in single crystals of the LaFeAsO. We observed the symmetries and frequencies of the phonons in the tetragonal and orthorhombic phases and also the temperature dependence of the quasi-elastic peak (QEP) in the B 1g symmetry with maximum intensity around the magnetic transition T N . The B 1g QEP area and height were ascribed to spin nematic fluctuations, while the B 1g QEP width was related to the relaxation rate of these fluctuations. From the B 1g QEP width analysis we propose that the structural transition is related to a gradual freezing of the spin nematic fluctuations, which may be a general phenomenon present in other Fe-based superconductors. This study was complemented by measurements of Raman spectroscopy in BaFe2As2 and synchrotron X-ray diffraction in LaFeAsO, BaFe2As2 and Co-doped SrFe2As2 .
