Attracting Foreign Real Estate Investors to the Brazilian Hotel Market

Mignonac, Alexis January 2012 (has links)
The last financial and economic crises have revealed the fragility for developed countries, especially European countries, to resist to a major upheaval. This event has affected for a long time their capacity to spur their economy and their attractiveness. Indeed, trapped in a low GDP and with a high public debt, the last summer has recalled that the situation stay unstable in Europe and U.S. Nevertheless, following this event, some countries have succeeded to emerge stronger. These emerging countries, especially BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China), achieve to recover quickly a high GDP rate in spite of the global crisis and are confirming their capacity to reach their economic objectives. This thesis report focuses on a Real Estate investment recommendation in one of the most attractive emerging countries in the world, Brazil. The country, the last American country entered in recession and the first one exited from it, is becoming more and more attractive. Now, the country is among the ten largest economies in the world and remains very attractive to foreign investors due to its growth potential, large and competitive market and political stability, transforming the country from "a country of the future to a country of the present". Their ability to master the inflation to a stable value, to reduce the net debt and to pay off international Monetary Fund loans reassured investors. The new Domestic demands accompanied by an increasing business development and touristic demand are transforming the country, especially in the Real Estate sector, ranking it as one of the best place to invest in the world. Thanks to specific strategic investments in Real Estate, investors can make interesting returns and diversify their port-folio which is essential to decrease their exposition to specific risks. My thesis focus on a specific Real Estate sector: the Brazilian Hotel Market, and describe some strategic investments for foreign investors in Brazil.

An exploratory study on telephone interpreting in the Western Cape healthcare sector

Brink, Eloise Karin 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MPhil)--Stellenbosch University, 2014. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Communication in a global context is seriously hampered by language barriers. These barriers pose special challenges to service delivery, particularly in the healthcare sector. Onsite interpreting is considered most conducive to enable effective communication. In South Africa, however, it is not practical and financially viable to employ onsite interpreters for all the possible language combinations. Telephone interpreting is proposed as an alternative to onsite interpreting and Folio Online’s InterTel service offers telephone interpreting in the Western Cape healthcare sector. This study gauges whether the InterTel service has the potential to contribute in any way to effective communication in the Western Cape healthcare sector. In South Africa, language barriers do not only exist in communication with tourists or immigrants, but also among the country’s own inhabitants. Furthermore, effective communication in the healthcare sector is particularly crucial. Miscommunication may lead to misdiagnosis and/or incorrect usage of medication, which in turn may result in death. The possible loss of life renders the issue of overcoming language barriers in the healthcare sector an important one. The aim of the study is to argue descriptively about InterTel telephone interpreting service as a viable solution to the communication difficulties between healthcare practitioners and patients in the Western Cape healthcare sector. The research had to be narrowed down and instead the study descriptively argues whether InterTel service contributes to communication in the Western Cape healthcare sector. The researcher conducted an interview with the Folio InterTel project manager and sent out questionnaires to the Folio telephone interpreters. Five transcribed recordings of conversations between healthcare practitioners, patients and Folio telephone interpreters were analysed. The findings of this study echo the findings of related studies reported in literature on telephone interpreting. The conclusion is that the Folio InterTel service makes a valuable contribution to more effective communication in Western Cape healthcare facilities.

Narrative Form and Mediaeval Continuity In The Percy Folio Manuscript: A Study Of Selected Poems

St. Clair-Kendall, S. G. (Stella Gwendolen) January 1988 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy(PhD) / Revised September, 2007 / This study examines the continuity of mediaeval literary tradition in selected rhymed narrative verse. These verses were composed for entertainment at various times prior to 1648. At or shortly before this date, they were collected into The Percy Folio: BL. Add. MS. 27,879. Selected texts with an Historical or Romance topic are examined from two points of view: modification of source material and modification of traditional narrative stylistic structure. First, an early historical poem is analysed to establish a possible paradigm of the conventions governing the mediaeval manipulation of fact or source material into a pleasing narrative. Other texts are compared with the result of this analysis and it is found that twenty paradigmatic items appear to summarize early convention as their presence in other poems is consistent — no text agreeing with less than twelve. The second step is the presentation of the results of an analysis of some fifty mediaeval Romances. This was undertaken in order to delineate clearly selected motifemic formulae inherent in the composition of these popular narratives. It is shown that these motifemes, found in the Romances, are also present in the historical texts of The Percy Folio. The findings, derived from both strands of investigation, are that mediaeval continuity exists in the texts studied. The factors which actually comprise this ‘mediaeval continuity’ are isolated: it is then seen that rather than discard tradition as society grew further and further from the early circumstances that gave rise to it, later poets have chosen to contrive modifications designed to fit new requirements as they arise. Such modifications, however, are always within the established conventional framework. In short, no text examined failed to echo tradition, and mediaeval continuity is an important feature of the popular rhymed narrative in 1648 and The Percy Folio.

Raitani Júnior, Antonio Alir Dias January 2008 (has links)
Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal Rural do Rio de Janeiro, Instituto de Agronomia. Programa de Pós-graduação em Educação Agrícola / Made available in DSpace on 2012-10-23T16:38:58Z (GMT).

"To You I Give Myself, for I Am Yours": Editorial Giving and Taking in Shakespeare's <em>As You Like It</em>

Thorup, Jennifer Jean 01 December 2017 (has links)
In As You Like It 5.4.107-08 we receive Rosalind returning as herself—a woman—no longer in the guise of Ganymede, the "boy" page. Her first lines upon returning are repetitive: "To you I give myself, for I am yours [To Duke Senior] / To you I give myself, for I am yours [To Orlando]." However, comparing Folio versions of these lines produces a provocative variant. In the third and fourth folios, these lines are no longer a repetitious patriarchal pledging, but a tender dialogic exchange—much like vows—between Rosalind and Orlando. While none of our modern Shakespeare editions make a note of this variant emendation, this article traces the editorial history and mystery surrounding As You Like It 5.4.107-08 from seventeenth-century editors to our modern ones—with an emphasis on the shift in Shakespeare editing during the eighteenth century—to suggest the variant emendation warrants consideration for text and performance. Furthermore, the article examines the plausibility of the third and fourth folio's emendation in congruence with Early Modern conceptions of companionate marriage, parental consent, and marriage rites.
