Vad besökarna gör på ett folkbibliotek. En användarstudie på Borås stadsbibliotek / What visitiors do at a public library. A user study conducted at Borås City Library

Flodin, Sara January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to find out what different groups of visitors do when they are at Borås City Library. Three issues were formulated from the purpose and they were: What do users do when they visit the City Library in Borås? What occupations do those who visit the library have? What similarities and differences are there in the use of the library depending on the visitors’ occupations? To answer these questions a questionnaire was handed out among the visitors at Borås City Library. The theory that was used when the material was analyzed comes from the book”Gør biblioteket en forskel?” and the book is written by Henrik Jochumsen and Casper Hveneegaard Rasmussen. The results are presented by six diagrams and each diagram represent one question. The result shows that it is common to use the library to borrow or return materials and the second most common activity is to read at the library. Books dominate among the borrowed or returned items. The result also showed that several of the respondents read books, magazines and newspapers at the library. The computers are mainly used to search for information. Among the respondents approximately one third had participated in some activity that the library offered. / Program: Bibliotekarie

En välkomnande, påverkningsbar, inspirerande och opretentiös mötesplats som är öppen för alla : En analys av hur ett modernt folkbibliotek formulerar sig kring sin verksamhet / A welcoming, responsive, inspiring and unpretentious Meeting Space that is open for everyone : an Analysis of how a modern Public Library describes its Activities

Asu, Lisa, Rydberg, Helena January 2012 (has links)
The public library´s overall purpose and legitimacy is analways relevant subject for discussion in Library andInformation Science and in public debate on libraries.Libraries are a part of a bigger societal context and are thusinevitably influenced by societal changes. In this thesis wehave studied different roles and functions of the publiclibrary, as seen from documents published by one specificpublic library in Malmö - Garaget. As basis we have usedan analysis model of the library in the knowledge andexperience society made by Jochumsen, HvenegaaardRasmussen och Skot-Hansen (2010). Our purpose has beento examine which ideas and notions on the functions of thepublic library that can be found in Garaget’s documents andin the model – and to discuss them from a discoursive pointof view. In our understanding of discourse and powerstructures within the discourse we were influenced byFoucault. We found that what is said in Garaget’sdocuments, in many ways, can be considered coherent withthe ideas expressed in Jochumsen et al:s model. Among themore central themes we found examples of how the publiclibrary’s functions are becoming broader, and also thatlibrary users are allowed (and expected) to play anincreasingly central part in defining the actitivites of thelibrary. / Program: Bibliotekarie
