Because of the nature of the poetry, the interpretation of Banalites in this study has involved certain subjective decisions. These deductions were, nevertheless, colored by statements of the poet, the composer, and authorities on each. This is not to imply, however, that this is the only interpretation. Both poet and composer have given evidence that their creation requires a subjective response on the part of the interpreter. This is perhaps the greatest challenge offered by the work.

Caminhar na cidade Experiência e representação nos caminhares de Richard Long e Francis Alÿs; Depoimentos de uma pesquisa poética é constituído de reflexões e depoimentos sobre a poética do caminhar na cidade hoje. Parte-se de um entendimento do caminhar como uma prática artística, tal como se desenvolveu no decorrer do século XX no campo das artes visuais. Procura-se compreender as práticas de artistas-caminhantes contemporâneos, suas formas de inscrição e intervenção no espaço urbano, com foco nas dimensões da experiência e da representação. Apresentam-se: 1) o campo poético do artista inglês Richard Long, artista-caminhante em paisagens naturais remotas, abordando especialmente a relação entre a obra e o lugar; 2) o campo poético do artista belga Francis Alÿs, artista-caminhante urbano, com um aprofundamento sobre a especificidade da inscrição artística no contexto urbano e o processo de criação das situações metafóricas e proliferação das fábulas no imaginário urbano. 3) depoimentos da pesquisa poética da própria autora, suas experiências na cidade como artista-caminhante. A partir destas três práticas artísticas, concluem¬-se quais os procedimentos utilizados por artistas-caminhantes. / Walking in the City Experience and representation on Richard Long and Francis Alÿs walking-works; a poetic research testimony consists on reflections and testimonies on city walking poetics today. Arising from an understanding of walking as an artistic practice, as it was developed in the course of the 20th century in the field of visual arts. There is a search for an understanding of contemporary artists-walkers practices, their forms of inscription and intervention on the urban spaces, deepening the experience and representation aspects. Presenting: 1) the poetic field of the English artist Richard Long, walker in remote natural landscapes, tackling the relation between work and place; 2) the poetic field of the Belgian artist Francis Alÿs, urban walker, with a focus on the artistic inscription on the urban space specificity, and the creative process of metaphoric situation and the proliferation of fables in the urban imaginary; 3) the authors own poetic research testimonies, her city experiences as an artist-walker. Based on these three artistic practices, the artistic procedures taken by the contemporary artists walkers shall be concluded.

Neste trabalho, trazemos uma análise da obra O Progresso do Conhecimento, publicada em 1605, pelo filósofo e político Francis Bacon (1561-1626). Nosso objetivo é explorar as ideias contidas nesse importante livro de Bacon a fim de relacioná-las com intenções mais gerais desse pensador, no plano de um projeto para a ciência, e com o momento histórico em que ele viveu, em especial a Reforma Protestante e suas consequências para o Estado inglês. Para atingir nosso objetivo, fizemos inicialmente um levantamento dos modos como a historiografia da ciência tem tratado sua vida e sua obra e como a historiografia geral tem abordado a questão da Reforma Protestante na Inglaterra. A análise do livro de Bacon, ao mesmo tempo em que segue linearmente as partes da obra, priorizou algumas dimensões teóricas: o projeto de Bacon de classificação das partes do conhecimento, a questão da separação entre o conhecimento humano e divino, o problema dos sujeitos da ciência e a dignidade do conhecimento e as vantagens do conhecimento. O resultado da análise é que as ideias de Bacon sobre a ciência são também ideias e propostas sobre o funcionamento do Estado e sobre os modos de ser dos sujeitos que os possibilitariam se relacionar com essa ciência e esse Estado. Assim, sugerimos que, para Bacon, Estado, sujeitos e ciência são elementos inter-relacionados e indissociáveis / In this text, I present an analysis of the work The Advancement of Learning, published in 1605, by the philosopher and politician Francis Bacon (1561-1626). My goal is to explore the ideas that this important book by Bacon contains, with the aim of relating them to the more general intentions of this thinker, in the frame of a project for science, and with the historical moment in which he lived, especially the Protestant Reformation and its consequences to the English State. In order to attain my goal, I made a survey of the approaches that the historiography of science has treated his life and works and how the general historiography has dealt with the Protestant Reformation in England. The analysis of Bacons book, follows linearly the parts of the work, but at the same time I have given strong attention to some theoretical dimensions: Bacons project of the classification of the parts of knowledge, the issue of the separation between human and divine knowledge, the problem of the subjects of science and the dignity of knowledge and the advantages of knowledge. The results of the analysis point to understanding Bacons ideas about science as ideas e proposals about the functioning of State e about the ways of being of the subjects that might enable them to be in a relationship with this science and State. In this way, I suggest that for Bacon, State, subjects and science are interrelated and inseparable elements

A presente dissertação tem como objetivo analisar uma prática artística que, na contemporaneidade, vem ganhando ampla dimensão e recorrência: o ato de andar. As implicações do percurso e sua dimensão plástica são motes cruciais a esta análise, que busca, à luz de um recorte histórico, traçar as especificidades desse ato com base na análise de produções artísticas posteriores à década de 1960. Para entendimento dos distintos aspectos que o caminhante apresenta na arte contemporânea, são traçadas três aproximações que, paralela e independentemente, dão subsídios à análise proposta. A primeira delas, aborda a caminhada no contexto de um breve panorama histórico das produções artísticas, buscando qualificar dois momentoschaves para a diferenciação dos trabalhos que a tomam como mote: a caminhada como representação e a caminhada como ato. A segunda aproximação faz o levantamento do léxico que tem paulatinamente buscado qualificar a caminhada nas suas mais diferentes acepções. É desse léxico que emergem as principais considerações teóricas sobre as especificidades da caminhada como ato com implicações estéticas, tendo como base a deriva situacionista, a estética radicante de Nicolas Bourriaud e a abordagem fenomenológica de Thierry Davila sobre deslocamento. Por fim, a terceira aproximação apresenta um estudo de caso que consiste na análise da produção do artista de origem belga, radicado no México, Francis Alÿs. / This dissertation aims at analyzing an artistic practice that, in contemporaneity, has gained a vast extension and recurrence: the act of walking. The implications of the pathway and its aesthetic dimension are crucial mottos in the analysis that tries to outline this act\'s specificities, focusing on the artistic productions after the 1960\'s. To understand the distinct qualities that the walker pursues in contemporary art, three approaches are outlined; in parallel and independently, they subsidize the proposed analysis. The first deals with the insertion of the act of walking in a brief historical panorama of the artistic works, specifying two key-moments: walking as representation and walking as an act. The second approach presents an inventory of the lexicon that gradually qualifies the act of walking in its most various meanings. It is from this glossary that the main theoretical considerations about the specificities of walking as an act with aesthetical implications emerge from, based on the situationist dérive, on Nicolas Bourriaud\'s radicant aesthetics and on Thierry Davila\'s phenomenological approach on displacement. Lastly, the third approach presents a case study that has the analysis and interpretation of Belgian artist Francis Alÿs\' as its key element, an example of the artist as a contemporary drifter/wanderer and his insertion in and relation with the city.
