Hubbard, Amy January 2012 (has links)
Internal Westward Migration in Germany: 1989-1994 Amy Hubbard Abstract: Contemporary German history has been beleaguered with political, social, and economic upheaval, the consequences of which have led to its modern day composition. One such consequence of Germany's past is the problem of internal westward migration between 1989 and 1994. This analysis looks at the political, social, and economic factors that have led to the increase of internal westward migration from the states of the former German Democratic Republic to the states of the former Federal Republic of Germany. The political, social, and economic developments of the German Democratic Republic combined with the reunification process have led to a feeling of insecurity in the east. People with a strong sense of political, social, or economic insecurity will have a stronger propensity to migration to a stable environment. A variety of governmental programs have been developed to quell the problem but they have been widely unsuccessful. Additionally, there have been a series of negative consequences caused by the existence of internal westward migration on such a scale, such as, the rise of extremist parties in the eastern states of German

Genderová analýza knižního souboru Pohádky pod polštář / Gender analysis of the file Fairy tales under the pillow

Špitálská, Andrea January 2013 (has links)
The diploma thesis analyzes the collection of fairy tales titled Pohádky pod polštář (Fairy Tales to Put Under the Pillow), written by psychologist Zuzana Pospíšilová and illustrated by Katarína Ilkovičová. The collection was published in the Czech Republic in 2012. The individual fairy tales are based on European folklore and adapted for the Czech cultural context. In terms of presentation, the collection is intended as a modern update of the popular children's fairy tale format. My analysis is rooted in feminist theory and feminist cultural and literary studies, as exemplified by authors such as Pam Morris, Simone de Beauvoir, Naomi Wolf and others. The subject of power is analyzed mainly in relation to the writings of Michel Foucault, Judith Butler and Pierre Bourdieu. From this perspective, I have attempted to make an informed criticism of the stereotypical and otherwise discriminatory images of gender present in the fairy tales. On the other hand, I have also recorded the instances in which gender normativity is subverted in the collection. In addition, the thesis attempts to employ an intersectional approach to analyzing the selected text, taking into account other categories significant to the dominant social order including not only gender, but also race/ethnicity, class, sexual identity,...

Jaká matka taková dcera? Reprodukce genderových rolí u jedenapůlté generace arménských migrantek v České republice / Like mother, like daughter? Gender role reproduction of one and a half generation of female Armenian migrants in Czech republic

Dvořáková, Kristýna January 2015 (has links)
Diploma thesis is focused on a social status of one and a half generation of female Armenian migrants in Czech republic. It follows processes of a negotiation of their own social position and a creation of their own self-image on basis of gender role reproduction analysis. There are two main influential factors in context with their life in the target country. First one is their family and an Armenian community who is trying to pass Armenian traditions and values to them. The other one is the major society around them. Thesis reveals how individual informants in the bicultural situation perceive traditional gender roles and the possibility of their development or change. Girl's strategies prove to what degree they are following social patterns based on their origins in comparison with the life in the target country. Despite the fact that they know and understand social patterns preserved in Czech society they are accepting and by their behaviour even proving a gender role identification in the context of their family and Armenian community. This identification coresponds with an identification of the common Armenian family because it's girl's key reference group determining all relationships. In view of the fact that the family provides full support it is recognised as an arbiter of social values....
