Bidragande faktorer till arbetsrelaterad stress hos sjuksköterskan inom hospital vårdLundh, Pernilla, Tapia Molander, Simon January 2019 (has links)

MSc research report -
Faculty of Health Sciences / The purpose of this research was to ascertain and examine the current genetic knowledge of the nurses in their final year of the Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing (General Nursing, Community Nursing, Psychiatric Nursing) and Midwifery.
The research design was an exploratory, descriptive, quantitative survey, using a sample of final year student nurses at two of the three nursing colleges in Gauteng. Data were collected through the use of a self-administered paper-based questionnaire, which was adapted from a questionnaire used for a study to assess the genetic knowledge of general practitioners (Trenton, 2003). The questionnaire was adapted using the broad outline for subject content given in the curriculum for the four-year Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing (General Nursing, Community Health and Psychiatric Nursing) and Midwifery, the South African Nursing Council regulations, and the Department of Health Policy Guidelines. Random sampling was utilised to select two of the three nursing colleges in Gauteng and the total population of final year students was used as the sample. Data were analysed by means of descriptive statistics.
It was concluded through this study that, although nurses showed fairly adequate knowledge in the areas of teratogens and multifactorial inheritance, they showed a lack of knowledge with regard to basic genetic inheritance patterns, genetic conditions, epidemiology and prenatal diagnostic techniques. It can thus be recommended that an expanded component of genetics be included in the basic curriculum of the four year Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing (General, Community, Psychiatric) and Midwifery programme in accordance with programmes initiated in other countries.

Problematika komunikace se seniory s poruchou sluchu / Communication with elderly people suffering from a hearing disorderBLAFKOVÁ, Šárka January 2012 (has links)
People communicate to understand one another and share information. Speaking is crucial in the course of everyone's entire life. In this thesis, we have focused on the issues related to communication with seniors with a hearing disorder. It is necessary to properly diagnose the hearing disorder using suitable methods of examination, and subsequently propose possible means of therapy and train the patient on use of the hearing aid if necessary. Two objectives were set out, both of which were achieved. Objective 1: Map the effective skills used by nurses when communicating with seniors with a hearing disorder. Objective 2: Determine how unsuitable communication by nurses affects seniors with a hearing disorder. A quantitative and qualitative examination was performed. Within the quantitative examination, 200 questionnaires were handed out, of which 178 properly completed were returned for processing. The qualitative examination consisted of a semi-structured interview of ten seniors with a hearing disorder with the help of technology. We defined three hypotheses. Hypothesis 1: The type of education affects nurses' communication skills with seniors with a hearing disorder. Hypothesis 2: Nurses adhere to the principles of communication with seniors with a hearing disorder. Both hypotheses were confirmed. Hypothesis 3: Nurses consider care for seniors with a hearing disorder to be a burden. The last hypothesis was not confirmed. Three research questions were also defined. Research question 1: How does the current manner of communication by nurses affect seniors with a hearing disorder? Answer 1: The current manner of communication of nurses with seniors with a hearing disorder has a positive effect. Research question 2: How do seniors with a hearing disorder perceive non-verbal communication by nurses? Answer 2: Seniors with a hearing disorder consider the non-verbal communication of nurses to be adequate. Research question 3: What problems do seniors with a hearing disorder encounter when communicating with nurses? Answer 3: The most common problem mentioned by seniors with a hearing disorder was lack of eye contact.

An exploration of teaching strategies utilised in the facilitation of learning for first level students in General Nursing ScienceSithole, Phumzile Cordelia 18 May 2012 (has links)
Lecturers at three Nursing Colleges in the Gauteng Province in South Africa where this study was conducted raised their concern that a large proportion of learners reaching the senior phase have difficulty solving patient care problems and even making specific decisions regarding patient care. These learners are also unable to formulate nursing diagnoses and develop nursing care plans. This lack of essential critical thinking skills is evident during the assessment of their assignments, tests as well as clinical formative assessments. These skills can be developed within learners throughout their four-year training, if exposed to outcomes- based education (OBE) and problem-based teaching strategies especially starting on the first level of their training course. The current nursing education programme, at these Nursing Colleges where this study was conducted is an outcomes- and problem-based curriculum. It is important that teaching strategies utilized by nurse educators are appropriate for the specific curriculum implemented because they greatly differ from the traditional teaching strategies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the teaching and assessment strategies utilized in the facilitation of learning for the first year level students in the subject General Nursing Science (GNS I). The focus of the study was on the first year of training because it is expected that development of critical thinking be started at this level. A quantitative, contextual descriptive research method was utilised. The sample consisted of lecturers (N=23) and students (N=680). The lecturers from each of the three colleges were addressed during a personnel meeting regarding the study and a suitable date and time was set for the distribution of the questionnaires to the lecturers and to first year learners during the last block of the academic year. The questionnaires were distributed to the lecturers and the learners on the agreed date and time and the researcher was present to clarify any misunderstanding regarding the tool. The questionnaire consisted of appendix E, which was distributed to lecturers and appendix F, which was distributed to the learners. Respondents were requested not to give any identifiable information on the questionnaires and to place completed questionnaires in the box provided in each of the venues to ensure confidentiality and anonymity. Data from the study indicated that not all of the teaching strategies and assessment methods utilized by the educators are appropriate and conducive for the stimulation of critical thinking skills. The majority of the lecturers facilitate through a lecture method and assessments are mostly done through written tests and examinations. On the other hand teaching facilities at the colleges are inadequate, for instance small group facilities are not available. Recommendations are as follows:

More lecturers should be encouraged to obtain a Masters Degree qualification in Nursing.

All lecturers should utilize the OBE educational strategies.

In their facilitation of GNS I lecturers should accommodate older students, because they were never exposed to an OBE approach in their basic education.

Lecturers should utilise a variety of teaching strategies that will ensure development of critical analytical thinking.

Lecturers should utilize a variety of assessment methods.

Students should be encouraged to seek information on their own, specifically regarding case studies because this actively involves them as they are solving problems, making decisions and draw conclusions in relation to GNS I.

Copyright / Dissertation (MCur)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Nursing Science / unrestricted
