This dissertation is a result of researches between 1996-2002. 1.351 Germans were interviewed in Germany and Norway. The researches focused on the motives of German tourists, their behaviour and perception. Very important is also the description of the Norwegian image. The image is old-fashioned and shows a country as it existed in den 1950s. The dissertation gives a survey about the history of tourism in Norway, reflects facts of the current tourism (number of visitors, accommodation,) and gives information about the different attractions. Since 1994 the number of German tourists is decreasing, which are the largest tourist group in Norway. Especially a huge number of camping tourists do not visit this Scandinavian country anymore and a large number of German camping tourists with recreational vehicles stay apart the campgrounds (wild camping). This type of traveller ('autarktyp') were detailed interviewed concerning his behaviour and his perception. The analysed problems are wild camping, less recreation, consumption, long routes, tourism along main routes and locally high density of tourism. Finally the dissertation offers Solutions to solve these problems for example new forms of travelling, new types of camping sites and demands authors of travel guides to use their influence.

Comparatively speaking, Germans have made a substantial contribution to the international geographical research on Japan. This is true not only of the period of seclusion and the opening of Japan, but also of the entire 20th century. Four periods are differentiated on the basis of research methods and main focus of research: Seclusion (Tokugawa Period 1600-1868) and Opening of Japan (Meiji Era 1868-1912): Compendiums and Encyclopaedic Regional Studies Post-Meiji Era, the World Wars and the Period Between (1913-1945): Japans Role in German Geopolitics, Japan Seen Through Its Ports and Urban Landscapes War and Post-War Period: Landscape Between Nature and Culture, the Cultural Landscape as Objectified Spirit Later Post-War Period up to 2000 Modern Geographical Research on Japan: Increasing Specialisation, Problem Orientation, Language Skills The greatest stress is placed on the most recent phase of research, in which new accents, protagonists, institutions, results and desiderata are presented.

Business services play a major role in post-fordist economies. This paper is based on a macro-scale analysis (1980 - 1995) of the locational system of business services in Northrhine-Westphalia, a federal state in Germany. The locational system has developped in a way that the hierarchical dimension has lost importance since 1980 whereas the functional differentiation among the locations, i.e. the cities, has increased. On the whole the locational system proves to be stable.
