Franco-German Diplomatic Relations 1871-1939Madeley, Henry 08 1900 (has links)
My purpose is to sketch briefly the diplomatic background of the existing relations between France and Germany from 1871 to 1939. I have told the story chronologically, because I believe that we must follow events as they unfold themselves if we are to understand why statesmen made their decisions. I have attempted to mass all the important facts that I could find on Franco-German Diplomatic Relations from 1871 to 1939 without self-interests or prejudices to either of the two nations. My intentions were to seek a general knowledge of the drift of Franco-German Diplomatic affairs during this period of seventy years.

Germany, Mexico, and the United States, 1911-1917Leffler, John Joseph 01 January 1982 (has links)
The thesis focuses on Germany's Mexican policies from 1911 to 1917, with particular attention given to the connection of these policies to political relations between the United States and Germany and between the United States and Mexico. The paper also attempts to place German activities in Mexico within the context of Germany's desire to promote its political and economic interests on a worldwide scale. Although some unpublished sources were consulted, the account relies mostly on published documents, memoirs, and secondary sources for its factual basis.

The quest for legitimacy : German and American relations during the revolutions of 1848Short, Andrea D. 24 July 2010 (has links)
This study has presented a different characterization of the delegates working within the Frankfurt Assembly during the Revolutions of 1848. The evidence suggests that instead of the delegates being naïve and idle in their pursuit for legitimacy, the assembly was systematic in its endeavor to achieve sovereignty and unify the German states. Through the correspondences of Andrew J. Donelson, this study revealed the competency of the delegates to act as the governing authority of the various German states. The assembly successfully negotiated with the United States and acquired a fully armed war steamer that would benefit the newly created Reichsflotte (German Navy). Establishing a system of defense would protect any legislation produced. The delegates should not be faulted with the ultimate rise of authoritarianism, but rather celebrated for their serious effort made towards democracy. / The Frankfurt Parliament -- The mad year -- The United States of Germany -- New legacy. / Department of History
