The rotation of a stored cylinder body by an outer rotating structure.

Vestman, Christopher January 2019 (has links)
HEAT-grenades are wing-stabilized grenades using shaped charge technology. Theshaped charge is a method, producing a jet-beam, with the use of a copper linerin which the aim is to focus the detonation energy to be able to penetrate armourand structures. This jet-beam is only eective under a rotational frequency of 15Hz, any frequency above this and the produced jet-beam loses its eciency and willnot be able to penetrate its target. One approach to minimize the inner body'srotation is by using bearings. By the use of ball bearings the intention is to with-hold transferring the angular momentum from the outer rotating body to the innercylinder body. This thesis have been analysing how much rotation the warhead haveacquired from the outer rotation of the grenade divided in an acceleration phase anda ying phase. During the acceleration phase the rotation of the warhead is reach-ing a frequency of 0.35 Hz. Proposals are presented for improving and lowering therotational speeds for future studies.

Conrad Gessner (1516–1565) als Pionier der Namenkunde

Thöny, Luzius 17 August 2022 (has links)
A resident of 16th century Zurich, the versatile Swiss physician, naturalist and polymath Conrad Gessner (1516–1565) was at the forefront of the knowledge production of his time. Best known as a botanist and zoologist, his achievements in linguistics are also noteworthy. A major focus of Gessner’s work on languages was the study of the names of plants and animals, individuals, peoples and places. His writings contain hundreds of comments on and explanations of names. Many of them are to be found in the Onomasticon propriorum nominum (1544), in the Bibliotheca universalis (1545) and in the Mithridates (1555). Unfortunately, his work on German personal names, Germanica nomina propria, has been lost. Gessner follows ancient and medieval tradition when explaining names mainly by associating them with other words with a similar sound. As an avid compiler of existing knowledge, he adopts many etymological explanations from other authors. The selection of etymologies from Gessner’s work presented here shows that while he did not always have the right answers to his etymological questions (in fact, he often did not), he was asking the right kinds of questions - although his interpretation of names was limited by a lack of linguistic groundwork so that he was unable to go back far beyond ancient and medieval etymologists. His greatest achievements in this field are perhaps the realization of the importance of names for the comparative study of languages and a recognition of the need for any study of names to start from a comprehensive collection of the material. His work goes far beyond that of his predecessors in terms of his ambition to collect onomastic materials and to analyse them in detail, e.g. regarding compound names. As such, it helped to prepare the ground for what later became the scholarly study of names.

A Creative Tension: Anthropocentrism and the Human-Nonhuman Boundary in Christian Europe, 1400-1700

Hammett, Michael Asher January 2024 (has links)
This dissertation seeks to understand the idea of a boundary between humans and non-human creatures in the early modern era. The idea of a boundary between people and non-people, while implicit among most sixteenth-century theologians, is still an important feature of early modern history. However, the boundary, while rhetorically very important and static, did not match with the reality of the boundary in theology and culture as fluid. Theologians argued at length that humanity, being made in the “image of God,” retained a fundamental difference from animals and other nonhuman creatures, in which that boundary could not be crossed. However, they also allowed for animals to possess positive traits and even moral and legal culpability. They also accepted creatures that challenged the boundary, whether monsters (including exotic creatures and misbirths) or humans who were not thought to possess all of the constituent characteristics of the “image of God,” such as those with mental or cognitive deficiencies. Thus, they struggled to reconcile the experiential reality of a fluid boundary with the theological conviction of an anthropocentric hierarchy of creation. This dissertation will address the inherent tension between these two views and assess the ways in which theological and cultural figures helped to resolve the tension. Using early modern commentaries on Genesis, we will first examine the rhetorical insistence on a firm boundary articulated by figures both mainstream and heterodox. Then, we will examine the popular perception of a fluid boundary, in which nonhuman creatures could be addressed and understood morally in bestiaries, saints’ lives, and trial records. Finally, we will examine how proto-scientific thinkers of the sixteenth century, like Conrad Gessner, Andreas Vesalius, Johann Weyer, and Ambroise Paré, actively challenged existing authorities and helped to resolve the tension to a state in which humans and nonhuman creatures were different, yet both existed within the broader sphere of nature. By the end of the sixteenth century, violations of the boundary between people and non-people come to be rejected more for their natural than theological implications.

Památková obnova Bratmannovy vily - Valašské Klobouky / The monument restoration Bratmann villas - Valašské Klobouky

Zámečník, Marek January 2016 (has links)
The Master's thesis comes with an idea of general renovation of the building and its surroundings of Elementary art school in Valašské Klobouky. To expand the insufficient and inappropriate space, the new building will be added to present monumental art nouveau Bratmann's villa which will be completely restored to its former appearance from year 1896. The thesis contains widespread analytic part aimed on theoretical preparation for restoration. The plan was to create harmonious changeover between the old building used for musical education and the new building used for the rest of the art education.
