A child labor free Philippine : When will that be?

Eck, Klara, Ullén, Åsa January 2011 (has links)
We have been in the Philippines where we did a research about child labor. We went to a country in South because we wanted to come home with a deeper understanding of how social work can be practiced in a developing country and to get a bigger global perspective. Child labor is a big subject and therefore we made a demarcation in our research to child labor that we could observe in the urban area Manila. To get answers on our research questions we chosen to do a qualitative study with a triangulation of methods. This means that we used different kind of data collection methods such as, interviews, observation and literature studies. To get interviews we contacted an organization that helped us with contacts on the spot. We interviewed both government and non-government organization to get a broader picture of how they are working with child labor. The observation was made all the time since there were children around us every day, begging or wanted to sell some items to us. The literature was more difficult to find because there isn’t any books about the Philippines in Sweden.      What we have found out is that child labor is a big problem in the Philippines, but that it is a country with a lot of big problems for example poverty. The children in child labor come from poor families that need an extra income. The children doesn’t only work a few hours a week, they often work so much that they drop out of school. Except that the children is missing out of their education there is also a lot of risks involving in child labor. We have been researching about the children’s situations and how government and non- government organizations are working with the issue of child labor and it´s negative effects on the child’s development. We found out that both ILO and the Philippine government have programs right now to support the goal of a child labor free Philippines. We also found out that there is a big lack of trust for the government. To analysis our results we have chosen two theories, the ecological model of human development and development of psychopathology. Both theories are Western but they can be applied on the Philippines if you have the context in mind.

Voitekianaitė, Inga 24 September 2008 (has links)
Few resent years there could be observed rapid growth of non-govermental organzations child and youth daycare centers. In our opinion, such occurence can be influenced by the fact, that majority of local administrations started to execute National non-govermental organizations child and youth daycare centers Pastaraisiais metais Lietuvoje buvo galima stebėti itin spartų nevyriausybinių 2002-2004 program. This program has a continuation – National child daycare centers 2005-2007 year and 2008-2012 year programs. NGO child and youth daycare centers, their activieties and establishment specificity has never been deeply examined by Lithuanian authors, socialogists or scientists. This work is done to reach theoretical and epyrical validity for Lithuanian NGO child and youth daycare centers activities model. To acomplish this task we tried to achive: to examine NGO child and youth daycare centers establishment and activities legal regulations; to define NGO child and youth daycare centers establishment premises; to cary out NGO child and youth daycare centers PEST and SWOT analysis; to carry out NGO child and youth daycare centers directors and experts interview (to adapt expert evaluation method). The research empirically based theoretical model of NGO child and youth daycare centers, which was prepared and presented by the author.

Mentoring propuštěných vězňů jako příklad sociální inovace v České republice / Mentoring of ex-offenders as an example of social innovation in the Czech Republic

Trnková, Lydie January 2015 (has links)
The concept of social innovation is increasingly becoming a subject of interest particularly due to the challenges associated with the crisis of the welfare state. The high rate of ex- offending is an example of a current challenge and mentoring is a social innovation which seeks to take up this challenge. The main goal of this thesis is to interrogate the process of social innovation using mentoring of ex-offenders as an example and to explore mentoring and its implementation within the Czech Republic. The theory of the process of social innovation, as documented in the overseas literature, guided the extensive research conducted in Czech non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that provide mentoring approach. The empirical part of this thesis provides a valuable insight into the process of social innovation from NGO perspective. It includes a comprehensive description of developmental stages of the process as well as highlights the limitations that NGOs encounter in implementing mentoring in the Czech Republic.
