The Tween Ghost Story: Articulating the Tween Experience

Rostedt, Erica 17 May 2013 (has links)
In the early 1980s, a particular kind of “tween” (children aged 10-14) ghost story emerged. Through examining multiple examples of tween ghost stories (such as Wait Till Helen Comes by Mary Downing Hahn, Stonewords by Pam Conrad, and Time Windows by Kathryn Reiss), this paper illustrates the ways in which these stories are remarkably consistent in nature, and then investigates this sub-genre’s specific and consistent articulation of the struggle of moving away from childhood and into the teenage years. By using a ghost to create a situation so off balance (a ghost who is stuck, a protagonist who is in flux), the tween ghost story is uniquely and cleverly designed to help the protagonist navigate through the scary situation of growing up.

L. Albert Hahn's Economic Theory of Bank Credit

Hagemann, Harald 12 1900 (has links) (PDF)
In the mid-1920s L. Albert Hahn's Economic Theory of Bank Credit (1920) had become one of the most influential and certainly the most controversial book on monetary theory in the German language area. Hahn wanted to overcome the orthodox view that every credit has to be financed by means of savings deposited by the banks. Banks are producers of credit which is not limited by the amount of saving. Capital was seen by Hahn as the result of credit creation and not of saving. Over time Hahn moderated some exaggerations of the first two editions of The Economic Theory of Bank Credit, such as the idea of a permanent boom. The paper also compares Hahn's views on the role and effects of credit with those of Schumpeter and investigates Hahn's claim to have anticipated essential ideas of Keynes' General Theory. Some aspects of polarisation transfer in NMR spectroscopy

Koskela, H. (Harri) 02 August 2005 (has links)
Abstract Modern NMR methods in liquids are based on the transfer of polarisation from nucleus to nucleus to generate multidimensional heteronuclear correlation spectra. The factors that influence the efficiency of heteronuclear polarisation transfer in multi-pulse experiments, and in that way the quality of spectra are the subject of this thesis. The flow of coherence through pulse sequences can be designed and analysed with the aid of product operator calculations. Results of the study include improvements to quantitative two-dimensional shift-correlated experiments, and demonstration of the benefits of closely spaced 180° pulse trains in polarisation transfer steps in long-range correlation experiments and isotope editing filters.

Universal approximation properties of feedforward artificial neural networks.

Redpath, Stuart Frederick January 2011 (has links)
In this thesis we summarise several results in the literature which show the approximation capabilities of multilayer feedforward artificial neural networks. We show that multilayer feedforward artificial neural networks are capable of approximating continuous and measurable functions from Rn to R to any degree of accuracy under certain conditions. In particular making use of the Stone-Weierstrass and Hahn-Banach theorems, we show that a multilayer feedforward artificial neural network can approximate any continuous function to any degree of accuracy, by using either an arbitrary squashing function or any continuous sigmoidal function for activation. Making use of the Stone-Weirstrass Theorem again, we extend these approximation capabilities of multilayer feedforward artificial neural networks to the space of measurable functions under any probability measure.

Das Ballett Der goldene Hahn in London (1937), Berlin (1938) und Belgrad (1939)

Mosusova, Nadežda 25 August 2017 (has links)
