A study on competitive strategies of high performance companies ¡V Case study on printed circuit board industry

Lee, Hsiang-jung 01 September 2006 (has links)
Taiwan¡¦s PCB industry has established a complete industry cluster in Taoyuan, we are famous for the flexible delivery, outstanding quality and competitive price, it leads Taiwan to become the third largest PCB production country in the world. Nevertheless, even PCB industry has essential position in worldwide IT industry, high market concentration ratio, high product homogeneity and powerful bargaining power of buyers have weaken the profitability and forced many leading companies exited the market, such as Shea May, Unicap, Printed Wire 2003 and Unic in 2004, however, under such competitive environment, there are few companies steadily grow up and holding high performance in this battlefield. The purpose of this study is to present the competitive strategies of three high performance PCB companies ¡VGlobal Brands Manufacturer Ltd(CMK-GBM), Dynamic Electronics Co. Ltd.(Dynamic) and Taiwan PCB Techvest Co. Ltd.(TPT) along with associated literature documentations, also, through the case study and on-site interviews, we may have better understanding of the core competencies and competitive edge inside these high performance companies. The result of this study presents that different competitive strategies have been selected by CMK-GBM, Dynamic and TPT but all of them emphasize on marketing ability and production efficiency these two core competencies. Furthermore, their competitive advantages are driven from their competitive strategies and core competencies. Based on the study, isolated one-man business managing style is outdated. Instead, for the purpose of achieving the maximum synergy, enterprises must plan and choose punctiliously with their cooperating vendors or integrate with other companies of similar business conduction. For instance, CMK-GBM chooses to cooperate with the world¡¦s biggest PCB company Japan CMK in order to shorten the time and effort in the fields of technology and customer development. Dynamic applies the tactics of vertical integration to crisscross the investment to the raw materials vendor so they are able to acquire the raw materials steadily and competitively. TPT selects the strategy of horizontal integration and cooperation with single production process PCB vendors so they are able to provide a prompt delivery data and a competitive pricing. Furthermore, helping them to position as the 2nd biggest PCB supplier of TFT-LCD PCB market. In viewing of this comprehensive study, besides the excellent choices of the suitable strategically alliances, all these three PCB companies also have outstanding and loyal manpower resource, high quality product, and superior production capability. Therefore, they are able to break through difficult dilemmas and to grow continuously in such an intensively competitive industry.

Transport und Speicherung von Energie / Forschungsarbeiten zur Hochleistungsbauteilkühlung

Meinert, Jens 17 January 2008 (has links) (PDF)
Die notwendigen strömungs- und wärmetechnischen Untersuchungen sind sowohl auf experimentellem als auch auf numerischem Gebiet angesiedelt / Alongside energy conversion, the transfer and storage of energy represent two of the most important research areas in the field of engineering sciences. The optimal use of both mechanisms could make a significant contribution to overcoming the frequently encountered local and temporal discrepancy between demand and the availability of energy resources. The research within the graduate college on high-performance cooling at the Institut für Thermodynamik und Technische Gebäudeausrüstung of TU Dresden, together with that of a corresponding junior professorship, is focussed on the optimisation of heat transfer processes for cooling purposes and for the storage of thermal energy. The necessary investigations of flow and heat transfer are based on experimental as well as numerical methods.

Steel fibrous cement based composites: material and mechanical properties : behavior in the anchorage zones of prestressed bridges

Ay, Lutfi January 2004 (has links)
<p>This PhD thesis is divided into two parts. Part one dealswith the development of the material and the mechanicalproperties of Steel Fibrous Cement Based Composites (SFCBC) forimproving bridge design and construction. It familiarizes thehydration mechanisms of the high performance concrete with thehelp of Powers´ and Jensen´s models. Concretes withdifferent water-cement ratio were compared with each other withrespect to degree of hydration and hydration products. Thisanalysis showed that high performance concrete has higherstrengths not because it has more gel solid, but due to ithaving less porosity and higher filler content compared toordinary concrete.</p><p>A number of experiments were performed to achieve a mixdesign method for a SFCBC, which has good workability, highearly and long-term strength and good durabilitycharacteristics. A Self-compacting and self-leveling fibrouscomposite, which has ultra high strengths (Compressive strength<i>f</i><i>c</i>= 180 ~ 220MPa and flexural tensile strength<i>f</i><i>föi</i>= 14 ~ 32MPa depending on the volumefraction of fibers) was produced. This composite was alsotested under different curing conditions in order toinvestigate the effect of curing on hydration andself-desiccation shrinkage. These tests showed that SFCBCshould not be water-cured under a long period andself-desiccation influences the compressive strengthnegatively. Test of scaling at freezing showed that SFCBC hasvery good durability characteristics.</p><p>Part two deals with the behavior of SFCBC in the anchoragezones of prestressed bridges. The prismatic composite specimenswere tested for different volume fractions of fibers underdifferent concentrations ratios of strip loading. The resultsof these tests showed that the ultimate strength of the SFCBCspecimens was approximately twice that of ordinary concretewith the same size (<i>f</i><i>c</i>= 60MPa reinforced with stirrups). Therefore,SFCBC has good possibility to replace the traditional rebars inthe anchorage zones of prestressed bridges.</p><p>This composite has different behavior than the traditionalconcrete e.g. crack formation, failure criteria, effectivestrength and angle of friction. A vertical crack on thecenterline was occurred while wedge developed under the loadingplate. In contrast to ordinary concrete, the cracks could notreach to the bottom of the blocks.</p><p>The tests results gave the ideas of that this material actslike metals or plastics in the high fiber content. Thismaterial is neither very brittle as concrete nor very ductileas metals but it is somewhere between them.</p><p>Upper-bound plasticity solutions were utilized for modelingthe bearing capacity of SFCBC. Predictions of this method aregood enough to estimate the bearing capacity of SFCBC in theanchorage zones of prestressed bridges.</p><p><b>Keywords:</b>Process improvement of bridges, Prestressedconcrete, High performance concrete, Ultra high performanceconcrete, Hydration, Cement based composites, Fibers,Self-compacting concrete, Bearing capacity, Anchorage zones,Tests</p>

GPU Implementation of a Novel Approach to Cramer’s Algorithm for Solving Large Scale Linear Systems

West, Rosanne Lane 01 May 2010 (has links)
Scientific computing often requires solving systems of linear equations. Most software pack- ages for solving large-scale linear systems use Gaussian elimination methods such as LU- decomposition. An alternative method, recently introduced by K. Habgood and I. Arel, involves an application of Cramer’s Rule and Chio’s condensation to achieve a better per- forming system for solving linear systems on parallel computing platforms. This thesis describes an implementation of this algorithm on an nVidia graphics processor card us- ing the CUDA language. Increased performance, relative to the serial implementation, is demonstrated, paving the way for future parallel realizations of the scheme.
