Wohlmuth, Petr January 2015 (has links)
This Master's degree thesis, named Blood, honour and horror. Representations of siege warfare in journals of British defenders of Bergen-op-zoom in 1747, adheres at specific genre of historical anthropology of war and military. It poses questions regarding ana-lysis of contemporary culture of war and its individual variables, their interdependence and changing configuration during the siege of Bergen-op-zoom in 1747, during culmination point of War of Austrian Succession. Meaning of this text consists of an effort to discover alternative way of treating historical sources and to depart traditional conservative methods of analyzing the war conflict using national or confessional military stereotypes, essential features of key actors or theoretical normative of military science. The text comes to conclusion that most irregular and dramatic character of the siege of Bergen-op-zoom was primarily caused by profound misunderstanding between defenders and attackers regarding culture of war, especially acceptable definition of military honour and of legitimate combat techniques. Ruský obrat do Asie: perspektivy a limity / Russia's Pivot to Asia: prospects and limits

Čechová, Barbora January 2019 (has links)
Russia's pivot to Asia has become one of the highly discussed topics among political and international relations theorists. However, diverse opinions exist on the timeframe of the pivot and on the level of favourable results of the new policies of Russia's turn to the East. Mostly, Russia is thought to be intensifying its relations with countries of the Asia-Pacific region, increasingly since the Western trade sanctions were applied on Russia after the 2014 Ukraine crisis. Academic discussion also revolves around Russia's opportunities and challenges in the region. Progressive cooperation, mainly with China, is suggested due to the growing importance of Asia and its countries: China's rapidly rising economy and military strength has made the country into a candidate for the most important world powers. On the other hand, development and modernisation of Siberia and Russia's Far East region would be necessary for efficient maintenance of any progressive relations with Asian countries. Russia would have to develop its infrastructure in the regions to enable connection and cooperation with China and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. Among all potential partners in Asia, China is mostly indicated as the most probable and suitable economic and political partner for Russia in the region....

Paměť komunistické éry v Československu: muzeum a jeho role v otevírání prostoru pro dějiny, identity a komunitní paměť / Remembering Communist-era Czechoslovakia: A Museum's Role in Facilitating History, Identities, and Memory Communities

Smith, Rose January 2019 (has links)
After the fall of the Berlin Wall, post-Communist states had to interpret and portray their past in the context of post-Cold War politics. In the Czech Republic, reflections on the memory of communism have gone through peculiar waves that travel between indifference to anti-regime. The Museum of Communism serves as the only social institution that deals with such memory exclusively. Its goal is to create a simple and objective account of communism. However, with museums reinventing themselves as performative spaces that aim to empower their visitors, engage them emotionally and provide them an opportunity to (re)live a past they have not experienced first-hand, this thesis aims to identify what group identities the museum promotes, how it gives substance to them, and what kind of memory community it adheres to and fosters. Drawing on the rich literature on both memory studies and museum studies, this thesis examines the museum through lens of critical discourse analysis. It argues that the Museum of Communism ́s portrayal of the past maintains and participates in the pan-European discourse of the Czech Republic as a western nation kidnapped by the East and its victimhood status is defined by the global holocaust discourse.

Barokáři - historicky poučená interpretace staré hudby v Česku očima jejích aktérů / "Barokáři" - Historically Informed Performance in the Czech Republic Through the Eyes of Its Interpreters

Vacek, Přemysl January 2020 (has links)
In this thesis I present a community of musicians dealing with a specific approach to music of older styles - historically informed performances (HIP). The aim is to answer the question as to why these promising classically educated musicians decided to leave the traditional career path in their field and chose alternative musical expression. I follow the rise and development of the professional scene of historically informed performances and its community from the turn of the 80s and 90s of the 20th century to the present day. Based on the analysis and interpretation of oral historical interviews, I describe changes in this environment and subsequent reflection on the perception of the profession and lives of the actors. I focus on their individual perceptions of authenticity and historical time, formed by their incorporation in early music.

Pospíšilová, Anna January 2020 (has links)
1z1 Abstract: In this thesis, on selected examples of everyday life, I deal with the issue of reso- cialization of former political prisoners from the 1950s after their return from prison. On selected biographical narratives, I point to personal ways of reintegra- tion into society, whose main ideology was the cause of their persecution. From their memories I choose the basic sphereas of life such as family, personal and social life, employment and the issue of rehabilitation not only at the personal but also at the social level. A special chapter is also devoted to the descendants of former political prisoners, whose memories illustrate the view of everyday life after their imprisonment and the subsequent return of their parents and thus re- veal the real impact of persecution activities of the communist regime in Czecho- slovakia.
