Telemetry Network Systems (TMNS) RF Link Management Quality of Service

O'Connell, Ray, Webster, Lyle, Kaba, James 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2012 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Eighth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2012 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / In the Telemetry Network System (TmNS) the prioritization of mission traffic is performed by internal radio queuing disciplines and the Link Manager performing adjustments to each radio transmit window in the TDMA network. These processes combine to provide the QoS traffic handling across the range. The radios provide the transmit packet prioritization using queuing disciplines which can be assigned to mission traffic flows. The Link Manager on the ground receives periodic reports of queue levels from each radio and performs transmit capacity adjustments based on internal radio and network wide conditions. Presented in this paper is the design of this TmNS RF Link Management QoS process with OPNET modeling and simulation results.

Characterizing Test Range Network Infrastructure in Anticipation of iNET Deployment and Design

Martin, Joseph D. 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2012 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Eighth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2012 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / The iNET program uses network technology and infrastructure to enhance traditional telemetry systems. The program's components were designed with an eye to existing and emerging technology and infrastructure, requiring the program to gather data about these systems. The methods used in this design effort can be used to characterize existing network infrastructure to determine what upgrades and changes are necessary to deploy a TmNS. This paper describes the methods used for characterizing a range network infrastructure and explores network capacity and policy issues effecting a TmNS deployment. This effort includes making estimates and taking measurements of network capacity, surveying and analyzing network routing/management policies, and proposes a system for evaluating networks for future TmNS deployments.

A Low Cost, High Density Reconfigurable Recording Subsystem

Berchuk, Vitaliy, Grozalis, Ed, Yin, Jennifer, Dehmelt, Chris 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2012 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Eighth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2012 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / Modern test programs require an increase in sensor and bus data while at the same time seeking a decrease in the size and price of data acquisition components. Data archiving, which has been traditionally supplied via dedicated standalone hardware, is not exempt to this demand, but in many ways has not kept up with other instrumentation components in terms of flexibility, size, density and price. The archiving capabilities of a data acquisition system must be able to meet the changing needs of the customer. This paper presents a Solid State Drive (SSD) based data recorder implementation that can be easily reconfigured to address the requirements of different applications, including traditional PCM based systems and contemporary network based systems. The paper identifies the requirements, design challenges, trade-offs and risks in creating a low-cost, flexible data archiving subsystem that can be used in a standalone configuration or be directly integrated with a host data acquisition system.

Automation of Generalized Measurement Extraction from Telemetric Network Systems

Seegmiller, Ray D., Willden, Greg C., Araujo, Maria S., Newton, Todd A., Abbott, Ben A., Malatesta, William A. 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2012 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Eighth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 22-25, 2012 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / In telemetric network systems, data extraction is often an after-thought. The data description frequently changes throughout the program so that last minute modifications of the data extraction approach are often required. This paper presents an alternative approach in which automation of measurement extraction is supported. The central key is a formal declarative language that can be used to configure instrumentation devices as well as measurement extraction devices. The Metadata Description Language (MDL) defined by the integrated Network Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) program, augmented with a generalized measurement extraction approach, addresses this issue. This paper describes the TmNS Data Extractor Tool, as well as lessons learned from commercial systems, the iNET program and TMATS.

THE PERFORMANCE TEST OF AN INITIAL iNET-LIKE RF NETWORK USING A HELICOPTER

Ito, Sei, Honda, Takeshi, Tanaka, Toshihisa, Aoyama, Daiki 11 1900 (has links)
Through the use of early iNET-prototype IP Transceiver technology, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. (KHI) has been able to communicate with a flight test vehicle. This technology provides a two-way high-capacity communication that has not been achieved with conventional telemetry. KHI has been authorized to use S-band IP Transceivers since 2014 in Japan. Then various communication tests have been performed. Last year we presented the result of the performance test of initial iNET-like RF network using a tethered aerostat at ITC. As the next phase, we have a plan of the test using a helicopter. The test is going to be conducted in September. We will present the results at ITC. This paper describes plans of the test which includes improved data backfill techniques.

NETWORK CONNECTIONS BEYOND IEEE 802.11

Zettwoch, Robert N. 10 1900 (has links)
International Telemetering Conference Proceedings / October 18-21, 2004 / Town & Country Resort, San Diego, California / More and more aircraft system designs are incorporating a local-area-network (LAN) using either Fibre Channel (FC) or Ethernet. To date there hasn’t been a means for creating a FC node connection between an airborne network and a ground based FC network or for creating a reliable high-speed Ethernet connection between air and ground. Ethernet connections have had some success by using the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN for these types of connections; however, these connections suffer from many inherent problems using this standard. Problems include the lack of telemetry spectrum control, security validation, high-speed data transfer efficiency, and channel acquisition time. This paper will describe a methodology that utilizes the IRIG-106 PCM standard for communicating between aircraft and ground-based networks. PCM can solve the aforementioned problems and it enables the user to take advantage of the many ARTM advances in PCM telemetry technology [1]. One such advance in technology has been the use of SOQPSK (Tier 1) or Multi-h CPM (Tier 2) to enable the user to effectively double or more their bandwidth efficiency compared to PCM/FM (or CPFSK) (Tier 0).

SIMULATION OF THE AERONAUTICAL RADIO CHANNEL FOR TELEMETRY APPLICATIONS

Mwangi, Patricia A. W., Haj-Omar, Amr, Montaque, Kishan 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2006 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Second Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 23-26, 2006 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / The aeronautical channel is an air to ground channel characterized by multipath, high doppler shifts, Rayleigh fading and noise. Use of a channel sounder ensures proper estimation of the parameters associated with the impulse response of the channel. These estimates help us to characterize the radio channels associated with aeronautical telemetry. In order to have a satisfactory channel characterization, the amplitudes, phase shifts and delays associated with each multipath component in the channel model must be determined.

Mixed Network Interference Management with Multi-Distortion Measures

Traore, Abdoulaye S. 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / This paper presents a methodology for the management of interference and spectrum for iNET. It anticipates a need for heavily loaded test environments with Test Articles (TAs) operating over the horizon. In such cases, it is anticipated that fixed and ad hoc networks will be employed, and where spectrum reuse and interference will limit performance. The methodology presented here demonstrates how this can be accomplished in mixed networks.

QoS Performance Management in Mixed Wireless Networks

Astatke, Yacob 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / This paper presents a model for Quality of Service (QoS) management in a mix of fixed Ground Station (GS) and ad-hoc telemetry networks, and introduces an enhanced clustering scheme that jointly optimizes the performance of the network using multiple distance measures based on the location of the wireless nodes and the traffic level. It also demonstrates that a "power" performance measure is an effective tool for modeling and managing QoS in Mixed Networks. Simulation results show that significant QoS performance improvements can be obtained and maintained even under severe traffic conditions.

iNET System Operational Flows

Grace, Thomas B., Abbott, Ben A., Moodie, Myron L. 10 1900 (has links)
ITC/USA 2010 Conference Proceedings / The Forty-Sixth Annual International Telemetering Conference and Technical Exhibition / October 25-28, 2010 / Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California / The integrated Network-Enhanced Telemetry (iNET) project is transitioning from standards development to deployment of systems. In fielding a Telemetry Network System (TmNS) demonstration system, one must choose and integrate technological building blocks from the suite of standards to implement new test capabilities. This paper describes the operation of a TmNS and identifies the management, configuration, control, acquisition, and distribution of information and operational flows. These items are discussed utilizing a notional system to walk through the mechanisms identified by the iNET standards. Note that at the time of this paper the efforts discussed are only at the very beginning of the design process and will likely evolve throughout the design process.
