LocoLit: a real-time view of local attractions

Khan, Atef January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Computer Science / William Hsu / This report describes the development of a location-based restaurant finding application, with a machine learning bases classification capability for summarizing user rating. The main idea behind the application is to allow the user access rating, images and videos uploaded in real- time before deciding to visit that respective location. The goal of tis implementation is to apply information integration- especially geolocation, video data and text bases rating analysis – to develop a usable, responsive information retrieval and access system for area restaurant and user review. There is a huge tradeoff in terms of information gain and time spent viewing a certain page. It is increasingly becoming important to consolidate information about a place into one tap. A simple online search may provide data about time and location but does not provide the user a visual representation of what is going on. The purpose of this project is to develop an application to reduce this technical gap and to serve the cliental of local businesses and patrons. The main motivation was to create a minimalistic application that encompassed all the needs a young adult would require making day-to-day decisions. It also increases transparency and drastically saves users the cost of physical presence by providing summative information about local businesses, including georeferenced videos and other users written review.

Services à haute intensité technologique : l'adoption des services de données pour téléphonie mobile en France / Technology-based services : data mobile services adoption in France

Moreno Alcerreca, Christina 22 March 2010 (has links)
With the development of technology-based services the question of the level of their acceptance was raised. In mobile communication, the French progressively adopt these services. This thesis aims to understand this adoption. The study of the literature in innovations adoption helped us to identify the main factors influencing technology-based services adoption. An exploratory quality study helped us to enrich our conceptual framework. The proposed model was evaluated by quantitative survey among 350 mobile services users. Finally, the execution of a case study proved itself necessary to explain the take-off of the mobile data services in France due to the launch of a multifunction Smartphone device. The results of the three studies reveal that the TAM constructions are pertinent in the explanation of the technology-based services usage. Our results highlight the influence of brand communities in the technology-based services adoption process.

An iPhone app of Konza Prairie LTER

Nukala, Leela Anusha January 1900 (has links)
Master of Science / Department of Computing and Information Sciences / Daniel Andresen / The objective of this project is to develop an iPhone application for the Konza Prairie LTER and play a significant role in the development of their website. The data of the Konza Prairie LTER is vast and includes the spatial datasets, weather reports, text archives, information about the flora and fauna at Konza Prairie Natural Area, integrated project areas, Dataset Codes, LTER Core Areas, Related projects, Konza Documents and Permits, and Publications. The module which was developed by me provides users information like publications, personnel information and datasets. The titles of the publications along with their PIs will be retrieved from the database and formatted onto the webpage. The 'Personnel' page has links directing to Primary Contacts, Faculty and Staff and Graduate Students. The attractive feature of this personnel page is that each personnel in the list will have a '+' link which enables the user more information about that particular personnel like their field of interests, mailing address and a link to view their profile. As the website already has all the required data and information in detail, the mobile app only briefs about them. People who are working on-site can make of this app efficiently as its features includes list of upcoming events, map of Konza with GPS feature, Post Card feature, Primary personnel to be contacted and other features. The website is developed using Visual Studio 2010 and SQL Server 2008 database. The iPhone app enhanced my knowledge and provided me with real-time exposure to iPhone SDK tools, X-code, Interface builder and its development environment.

FlipGlobe: Developing an iPhone App That Turns the World Upside Down

Berman, Alex 01 January 2012 (has links)
This thesis describes building an iPhone application called FlipGlobe that finds a given location's antipode and then displays location-relevant content about it. FlipGlobe extracts knowledge from the many geo-tagged data sources available via RESTful APIs to give antipodes context and relevance. This thesis discusses the following challenges encountered while building FlipGlobe: accessing location-aware data stores on a mobile device simultaneously; locating and relating an iPhone's current location in a user-readable format; and optimizing performance using multithreading and asynchronous API calls. The process of learning iPhone development with Objective-C, too, will be discussed at length. The many technologies leveraged to build FlipGlobe that will be covered include: forward and reverse geocoding, asynchronous HTTP requests, asynchronous image fetching, multithreading with Grand Central Dispatch, automated reachability testing, and Google MapKit. Finally, the building and evaluation of FlipGlobe’s user interface using Agile and Lean development methodologies is discussed.

Comparing Native and Hybrid Applications with focus on Features

Mohammadi Kho'i, Felix, Jahid, Jawed January 2016 (has links)
Nowadays smartphones and smartphone-applications are a part of our daily life. There are variety of different operating systems in the market that are unalike, which are an obstacle to developers when it comes to developing a single application for different operating system. Furthermore, hybrid application development has become a potential substitute. The evolution of new hybrid approach has made companies consider hybrid approach as a viable alternative when producing mobile applications. This research paper aims to compare native and hybrid application development on a feature level to provide scientific evidence for researchers and companies choosing application development approach as well as providing vital information about both native and hybrid applications. This study is based on both a literature study and an empirical study. The sources used are Summon@BTH, Google Scholar and IEEE Xplore. To select relevant articles, the Snowballing approach was used, with Inclusion and Exclusion criteria’s.The authors concluded that native development is a better way to develop more advanced applications which uses more device-hardware, while hybrid is a perfectly viable choice when developing content-centric applications.

Hildebrand, Gustaf January 2013 (has links)
