Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka förekomsten av icke-västerländska texter i svenskundervisningen på två olika gymnasieskolor samt att ta reda på hur de fem svensklärare vi intervjuar med hjälp av texter arbetar för att vidga elevers perspektiv. Empirin i uppsatsen baseras på kvalitativa intervjuer med lärare med olika bakgrunder. Vårt resultat visar att de flesta av informanterna motiverar sina textval med att undervisningen ska vara engagerande för eleverna. Begreppet icke-västerländska texter nämns endast självmant av en av informanterna medan tre av dem visar intresse inför att lära sig mer om ämnet i syfte att vidga sina egna och elevernas perspektiv. Vår slutsats är att flera av informanterna aktivt arbetar för att hos eleverna främja en förståelse för människor med olika bakgrund. Ett arbete med icke-västerländska texter i skolan skulle kunna vara ett av flera hjälpmedel som bidrar till en ökad förståelse mellan människor i det mångkulturella samhälle vi lever i. / The purpose of this essay is to examine the representation of texts from non western societies in the teaching of Swedish in two different colleges, and to find out how the teachers that we interview use texts to broaden the students' perspectives. The empirical data in the essay is based on qualitative interviews with five teachers from different backgrounds. The results show that most of the teachers base their choice of texts on what is engaging for the students to read. The term non western text was only spontaneously mentioned by one of the participants. Three of the other teachers showed an interest in learning more about the subject in order to broaden their students' as well as their own perspectives. Our conclusion is that the teachers we interviewed are actively working to create in their students an appreciation of people from different backgrounds. We believe that working with texts from non western societies can be beneficial for increasing the understanding between people in our multicultural society.
