Miljöpartiet : Maktens pris

Levin, Rebecca, Nilsson, Ida January 2015 (has links)
The Swedish Miljöpartiet- De Gröna is a green party which derives from radical social movements with a high emphasis on criticism against the traditional political system and political party structure. Their long journey to become a part of government in Sweden suggests that some ideological sacrifice could have been made to condition themselves as a traditional party with the objective to gain electoral success. As earlier studies have concluded this is a common phenomenon in green parties around the world when they attempt to enter parliaments.  The consequences of ideological change are both conflicts within the party and when their continued focus is unclear to the voters and members of the party, they risk losing core voters and members. This study was conducted as a qualitative idea analysis of the ideological base of the party’s program with a perspective of changes over time. With the aim to find what has ideologically been lost and what might have been added.  The conclusion consists of ambivalent findings, with both a change of core elements and a preservation of the ideological base.

Sandra Day O'Connor: Moderate or Something More?

Arceneaux, Patricia 15 December 2007 (has links)
In 2006 an historic era of the Supreme Court came to a close with the retirement of its first female justice, Sandra Day O'Connor. This paper attempts to expand judicial behavior scholarship by examining O'Connor's policy preferences for possible ideological change during her twenty-five year tenure on the Court. Average liberalism scores for her overall and civil rights/civil liberties issue area votes show an increase in liberalism over time. The researcher employs time series cross section analysis with panel corrected standard errors to determine factors responsible for this increase. Issue change, interagreement with the other justices, changes in Court membership, ideological mood of the country, and political polarization account for the lion's share of the increase. Contrary to the prevailing attitudinal model, change of preference does occur; however, the issue of separating true preference change from other salient influences in a statistical model remains unresolved.

Sverigedemokraterna och kvinnan : En kvalitativ textanalys av Sverigedemokraternas kvinnosyn under 1989-2018

Rova, Emmy January 2020 (has links)
The following study is a qualitative text analysis and an idea- and ideologyanalysis with the aim of examining the Sweden Democrats view on women over time and if the party’s organizational and ideological development is reflected in the party’s ideas regarding women’s role in society. The material of research consists of the Sweden Democrats party programs which has been analysed through conservatism and populism, which is the theoretical framework of this study. The results of the analysis have been divided into three different time periods and the first period between 1989-1999 indicated a strong connection between the Sweden Democrats view on women and a conservative view on women. During the second and third time period, between the years 1999-2018, the operational indicators for a conservative view on women could not be discovered, however several operational indicators which indicated a populistic view on women could be established. Previous academic research has categorized the Sweden Democrats view on women as conservative, but the results of this study´s analysis argues that the party´s view on women rather should be described as populism.

Den nyliberala Tiden : Socialdemokratisk ideologiförändring 1973–1990 / Den nyliberala Tiden : Socialdemokratisk ideologiförändring 1973–1990

Törnqvist, Isak January 2021 (has links)
This thesis studies the Swedish Social Democratic Party’s journal Tiden and its ideological changes between traditional social democracy and neoliberalism 1973–1990. Earlier research has shown that this period shaped the contemporary social democracy and society to a great extent. The study is conducted through quantification of the ideological content of articles concerning state, market, and capitalism to get an insight into how the party’s ideology changed during the period. The result has also been compared to the party’s electoral losses in the 1970s. The result shows that the early 1970s were a period characterized by a dominant traditional social democratic ideology. This changed drastically by the end of the ‘70s and in the early ‘80s. At this point, there was a surge in articles that expressed a neoliberal ideology to some extent. This neoliberal tendency peaked in 1990. However, there was not a complete shift from traditional social democracy to neoliberalism. Instead, there was a slow integration of neoliberal views into the old rhetoric. These neoliberal views concerned the market, the extent of the welfare state, and the freedom of choice regarding the welfare state. The view on the working class and capitalism also changed throughout the period. This resulted in a state of social neoliberalism. Social neoliberalism is a practice where conditions for austerity politics, a free market, and private influence in the welfare sector are created through a strong bureaucratic welfare state. This change from traditional social democracy to social neoliberalism is thought to be a result of the new economic and political environment and the party’s electoral losses in 1976 and 1979.
