Po stopách Persefoné: ikonografie výzdoby makedonských elitních hrobek / In the Footsteps of Persephone: The Iconography of Macedonian Elite Tombs' Decoration

Kamp, Tomáš January 2021 (has links)
The present master thesis focusses on the iconography of the decorative programme of Macedonian tombs dated from the second half of the 4th century BCE to the first half of the 2nd century BCE. The main objective is to detect the artistic principles of the Macedonian art applied to funerary monuments of local elites. To attain this aim it is necessary to adopt a complex approach which would allow for analysing in detail the various tomb decoration types; such an approach has never been applied so far. The main research tool used throughout this thesis is a profound analysis of individual elements of the tombs' decoration. The study is specifically concerned with the frequency of the individual motifs, their chronological development, and their possible meanings. Other questions include the iconographical differences between male and female tombs, variations between royal and aristocratic sepulchres, comparison of profane and funerary art, and last but not least, the possible transference of motives both from or to other cultural areas. Keywords: iconography, Ancient Greece, Macedonia, Hellenistic period, tumulus, tombs, wall-paintings

Dante a Ravenna / Dante and Ravenna

Boháčová, Adéla January 2021 (has links)
The Master's thesis is focused on research of the Italian academic discourse from the years 1891-2008 dealing with the influence of the visual culture of Ravenna on Dante's Divine Comedy. One of the scholars that can be placed in the context of Italian discourse is the philologist and aesthetician Jaroslav Hruban, the only Czech scholar who occupied himself with the relationship between Dante and Ravenna and continuously followed up the development of the interwar Italian Dantology. The thesis puts forward two questions: how the scholars of the Italian academic discourse and Jaroslav Hruban reflect the relationship of Dante and Ravenna, and if we can trace the influence of the visual culture of Ravenna (especially of the mosaics from the 5th and 6th centuries) in the text of Dante's Divine Comedy. The questions are solved by application of the historiographic methods that were used to examine Italian Dantology, the methods of literary studies and art history by which analysis and comparison of the text and imagery were performed, and also the methods of visual culture that were used to reconstruct the image of Ravenna during the time of Dante's stay in the town and his "period eye". The scholars believe that the inspirational influences of the Ravenna mosaics and visual culture on Dante's Divine...

Kunkel, Ilona 06 May 2024 (has links)
These are artistic works that play with canonised images of Russian femininity while maintaining a certain ambivalence towards this traditional iconography. This makes them less vulnerable in today's Russian Federation, where gender roles are highly standardised - but they are also rarely discussed in feminist contexts. In order to open up the artworks for feminist consideration, the dissertation focuses on the underlying artistic strategy: Active Self-Othering. It describes how this strategy enables Russian artists to actively and self-determinedly engage with stereotypes. Instead of the clear rejection or acceptance of normative images of Russian femininity, an ambivalent position of ambiguity is adopted, in which a new visual canon can emerge. Using qualitative case studies as examples, the dissertation examines the concrete use of the Active Self-Othering strategy in contemporary Russian feminist art, the specific aesthetics of the strategy, its functions and its social connectivity.:1 Einleitung 1 1.1 Zum Stand der Forschung 9 1.2 Begriffliche Grundlagen 12 1.3 Fragestellung und Vorgehen 20 2 Feminismus und feministische Kunst in Russland 23 2.1 Diskurse um Femininität und Feminismus vor der Oktoberrevolution 23 2.2 Sowjetische Zäsur und Retraditionalisierung 28 2.3 Widersprüchliche Gegenwart 33 2.4 Impliziter Feminismus: ambivalente feministische Selbstpositionierungen in Russland 37 3 Zur Verknüpfung von Femininität und nationaler Identität in Russland 47 3.1 Das 19. Gotická móda v českých zemích ve 14. století. Vývoj oděvních prvků v českých zemích v letech 1330 -1410 / Gothic Fashion in the Czech Lands in the 14th Century. Development of Clothing Features in the Czech Lands in the Years 1330 -1410

Kuběnová, Veronika January 2015 (has links)
1 ABSTRACT This thesis presents a study of a field of everyday culture - medieval fashion and its development during the reign of Charles IV of Luxembourg and his son Wenceslas in the Czech lands in the years 1330 - 1410. As these fashion trends and changes were exhibited primarily through the clothing of nobility, this thesis focuses exclusively on the environs of the aristocracy and royal court. In addition to written sources and archaeological finds, the fine arts also serve to advance our knowledge of Gothic fashion trends, whose works authentically capture the contemporary clothing styles and changes in all of Europe. This thesis therefore examines, through a methodical analysis, how wall paintings, panel paintings and book illuminations of Czech provenance reflect changes in clothing fashions and tastes in courtly environs during the period of time known as Luxembourg Gothic. This study of primary iconographic sources in authentic historical buildings and galleries was further aided by the creation of an extensive photo archive. This thesis presents a representative sampling of the works from this archive which documents a basic transformation of Czech clothing culture and the creation of a Bohemian style of Gothic fashion, culminating at the turn of the 14th and 15th century and enriching European...

The first part of the thesis is devoted to the analysis of deliberately chosen pilgrimage sites in all cases, with an emphasis on their initial and other specific miraculous events of non-biblical nature concerning primarily the lives of ordinary people. Within the scope of individual pilgrimage sites, this thesis also seeks to analyze all other pictures of the mercy of the Marian.
