Mapeamento de fontes aeroacústicas de um eslate em túnel de vento de seção fechada utilizando beam-forming com deconvolução DAMAS / Aeroacoustic source mapping of a slat in a closed-section wind tunnel using beam-forming with DAMAS deconvolution

Pagani Júnior, Carlos do Carmo 18 August 2014 (has links)
The reduction in the noise produced by aircraft operating in the vicinity of large urban centers is an important issue for a sustainable growth in the civil aviation activities. Over the last decades, from a signicant reduction achieved in the noise generated by aircraft propulsion systems, the contribution of both landing gears and high-lift devices (flaps and slats) has become important to the aircraft overall noise. The identication of the noise signature of each high-lift component is required for the development of both noise prediction methods and new aerodynamic design concepts toward achieving a noise reduction without severe penalty over the aircraft performance and safety. Scaled model experiments have shown that the importance of each airframe component to the overall noise is determined by particularities in both aircraft geometry and size. Such noise model dependence hampers the generalization of experimental results from a reference testing model and leads to the necessity of assessing noise generation according to the testing model geometry and operational condition. This study focuses mainly on the characterization of slat noise from experimental measurements on a high-lift Mcdonnell Douglas (30P30N) airfoil, composed of a slat, a ap and a main element. Measurements were performed in a closed-section wind tunnel by a 62-microphone array and the acoustic data were processed with in-house codes based on conventional beam-forming and DAMAS (Deconvolution Approach for theMapping of Acoustic Sources) algorithms. Beam-forming techniques potentially enable the representation of a spatial source distribution as an acoustic map, from which the contribution of independent sources to the overall noise can be estimated. The experimental database enables the study of the slat noise from dierent airfoil operational conditions and geometrical settings. The slat noise spectral signature reveals the occurrence of tonal noise over both low- and high-frequency bands and also broadband noise over a mid-frequency range. Beam-forming maps indicate the slat broad-band noise originates from a source spatially distributed along the slat span. The slat noise increases in function of the ow speed, whereas low-frequency tonal peaks and the broadband noise decrease as the airfoil angle of attack increases from 2 to 10. The slat noise spectra scalle when the Mach number is raised to a power between 4 and 5, and the tonal noise collapses with Strouhal based on the slat chord and the ow speed. Results show the slat noise is strongly in uenced by the airfoil geometry, particularly for variations in the overlap. A good quantitative agreement was achieved through the comparison between the experimental and numerical slat noise spectra for the same model geometry and test conditions, which indicates the viability of performing aeroacoustic experiments in closed-section wind tunnels.

Avaliação histológica da limpeza dos canais radiculares promovida por diferentes métodos de irrigação e análise tomográfica da área apical no comprimento de trabalho / Histologic evaluation of root canal cleaning promoted by different irrigation methods and tomographic analysis of the apical area in the working length

Seixas, Fabio Heredia 19 April 2011 (has links)
The aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro the cleanliness of root canal walls and the precision of tomographic analysis to determine the apical area before and after instrumentation of teeth with mesio-distal flattening, submitted to different irrigations systems and prepared by rotary nickel-titanium instruments. Forty-two human, single-canal lower incisors had their apical area evaluated either clinically or by tomography. Each specimen was instrumented using the Free Tip Preparation technique up to three, four or five instruments above the initial, according to the experimental group. Irrigation was performed by conventional or hydrodynamic means, using 2,5 % sodium hypochlorite after each instrument and a final flush of 17 % EDTA. The samples were submitted to a new tomographic scan and prepared for observation under a light microscope. Images were digitally obtained, analyzed and the results were submitted to statistical analysis (two-way ANOVA complemented by Bonferronis posttest). The readings made clinically or by the tomography revealed no differences between the anatomical diameters (p>0.05), but the surgical were different (p<0.001). There were no differences between irrigation methods (p=0.78). The results regarding the action of the instrument on the root canal walls showed that irrigation did not present a significant impact on the action of the instrument in the canal (p= 0,11); however, the statistical analysis revealed differences between instrumentation techniques (p<0.001). Instrumentation with four instruments above the initial file determined a significant increase in the actuation area when compared to preparation with three instruments. Preparation with five files above the initial did not result in an improved cleanliness (p>0,05). It can be concluded that the tomography shows discrepancies when compared to clinical determination of the anatomical diameter. Regarding the cleanliness obtained by the different irrigation methods, no differences were observed between groups. Preparation with four instruments showed a significant superior acting area when compared to only three instruments above the initial file. The same could not be observed when five instruments were used.

Morfologia do osso periodontal na região de caninos superiores movimentados para a área de fissura alveolar enxertada: avaliação por meio da Tomografia Computadorizada Cone-Beam / Periodontal morphology of maxillary canines orthodontically moved to the grafted alveolar cleft: a Cone-Beam Computed Tomography assessment

Yatabe, Marilia Sayako 04 December 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to assess the buccal and lingual periodontal morphology of the permanent canine moved to the grafted region in unilateral alveolar clefts with commitment of the alveolar bone by measuring images of conebeam computed tomography (CBCT) exams. These values were compared to the canine and lateral incisor present in the non-clefted side. The sample comprised CBCT exams of 30 patients with unilateral cleft lip and/or palate during retention period after orthodontic treatment. The protocol used for the CBCT exam was FOV of 6cm, voxel of 0,25mm for 26.9 seconds. The exams were assessed by one orthodontist two times with an interval of 30 days to assess intraoperator reliability. The standard position of the head was determined with the palatal plane parallel to the horizontal plane. Axial slices of the trifurcation of the right permanent molar were obtained to assess the buccal and lingual alveolar bone thickness of the canine in the clefted side (CF), the canine in the non-clefted side (CsF) and the lateral incisor in the non-clefted side (IL). To assess the buccal and lingual bone crest height, parassagital slices were obtained passing through the center of the crown of each evaluated teeth. It was calculated the distance form the cemento-enamel junction (CEJ) to the buccal and lingual alveolar bone crest. The comparison among the CF values with the CsF and IL was performed with the t test or the Wilcoxon test, depending on the distribution of normality. The buccal alveolar bone thickness of the CF is statistically thinner than the buccal alveolar bone thickness of the CsF (p=0,002) and of the IL (p=0,001). Other than that, the distance between the CEJ and the alveolar crest was significant higher for the CF (p<0,001). The movement of the upper permanent canine to the grafted alveolar consists in a viable therapeutic option. However, the orthodontic treatment demands caution, including a very slow movementation and the verification of the quality of the keratinized mucosa.

PARAMETERS AFFECTING THE RESISTIVITY OF LP-EBID DEPOSITED COPPER NANOWIRES

Smith, Gabriel 01 January 2018 (has links)
Electron Beam Induced Deposition (EBID) is a direct write fabrication process with applications in circuit edit and debug, mask repair, and rapid prototyping. However, it suffers from significant drawbacks, most notably low purity. Work over the last several years has demonstrated that deposition from bulk liquid precursors, rather than organometallic gaseous precursors, results in high purity deposits of low resistivity (LPEBID). In this work, it is shown that the deposits resulting from LP-EBID are only highly conductive when deposited at line doses below 25μC/cm. When the dose exceeds this value, the resulting structure is highly porous providing a poor conductive pathway. It is also shown that beam current has no significant effect on the resistivity of the deposits. Nanowires with resistivity significantly lower than the previous best result of 67μΩ•cm were achieved, with the lowest resistivity being only 6.6μΩ•cm, only a factor of 4 higher than that bulk copper of 1.7μΩ•cm.

Monte Carlo Simulation of Large Angle Scattering Effects in Heavy Ion Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis and Ion Transmission Through Nanoapertures.

Franich, Rick, rick.franich@rmit.edu.au January 2007 (has links)
Heavy Ion Elastic Recoil Detection Analysis (HIERDA) is a versatile Ion Beam Analysis technique well suited to multi-elemental depth profiling of thin layered structures and near-surface regions of materials. An existing limitation is the inability to accurately account for the pronounced broadening and tailing effects of multiple scattering typically seen in HIERDA spectra. This thesis investigates the role of multiple large angle scattering in heavy ion applications such as HIERDA, and seeks to quantify its contribution to experimental output. This is achieved primarily by the development of a computer simulation capable of predicting these contributions and using it to classify and quantify the interactions that cause them. Monte Carlo ion transport simulation is used to generate simulated HIERDA spectra and the results are compared to experimental data acquired using the Time of Flight HIERDA facility at the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisat ion. A Monte Carlo simulation code was adapted to the simulation of HIERDA spectra with considerable attention on improving the modelling efficiency to reduce processing time. Efficiency enhancements have achieved simulation time reductions of two to three orders of magnitude. The simulation is shown to satisfactorily reproduce the complex shape of HIERDA spectra. Some limitations are identified in the ability to accurately predict peak widths and the absolute magnitude of low energy tailing in some cases. The code is used to identify the plural scattering contribution to the spectral features under investigation, and the complexity of plurally scattered ion and recoil paths is demonstrated. The program is also shown to be useful in the interpretation of overlapped energy spectra of elements of similar mass whose signals cannot be reliably separated experimentally. The effect of large angle scattering on the transmission of heavy ions through a nano-scale aperture mask, used to collimate an ion beam to a very small beam spot, is modelled using a version of the program adapted to handle the more complex geometry of the aperture mask. The effectiveness of nano-aperture collimation was studied for a variety of ion-energy combinations. Intensity, energy, and angular distributions of transmitted ions were calculated to quantify the degree to which scattering within the mask limits the spatial resolution achievable. The simulation successfully predicted the effect of misaligning the aperture and the beam, and the result has subsequently been observed experimentally. Transmitted ion distributions showed that the higher energy heavier ions studied are more effectively collimated than are lower energy lighter ions. However, there is still a significant probability of transmission of heavy ions with substantial residual energy beyond the perimeter of the aperture. For the intended application, ion beam lithography, these ions are likely to be problematic. The results indicate that medium energy He ions are the more attractive option, as the residual energy of scattered transmitted ions can be more readily managed by customising the etching process. Continuing research by experimentalists working in this area is proceeding in this direction as a result of the conclusions from this work.

Priegnitz, Marlen 08 May 2013 (has links) (PDF)

Modeling and simulation of filters and devices for conformal radiotherapy / Μοντελοποίηση και προσομοίωση φίλτρων και συσκευών διαμόρφωσης δέσμης ακτινοθεραπείας

Tatjana, Ivanova 26 October 2007 (has links)
This doctoral thesis addresses dynamic intensity modulation by means of physical beam modifiers. The principles of gravity-oriented devices were generalized and extended, preserving principles of a beam shaping, but introducing motor-driven “patient-oriented” beam modifying devices. Beam modifying devices were divided in two categories: protectors and shapers. The protectors are diminished copies of the Organs At Risk (OARs) and stay parallel to them during gantry rotation, keeping them in the attenuated field for every gantry angle. Shapers are placed at the both sides of the protector to ensure uniform dose in the Planning Target Volume (PTV). Mathematical formalism for calculations of the dimensions and the initial coordinates of the beam modifying devices was developed as well as the laws of their motion during gantry rotation were derived. A software tool, incorporating the mathematical background, with user interface to facilitate the introduction of the input parameters was created. The software module was subsequently integrated into a Monte Carlo Radiation Therapy Simulator (MCRTS), used to simulate particle transport through the designed system. Simulation studies of field shaping in rotational therapy by means of beam modifying devices were carried out. Dose distributions in solid-geometry and voxel-based neck models were evaluated. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the shapers to modify the dose distribution outside the protected area was studied. The results of simulation studies showed that rotational therapy with beam modifying devices offers adequate protection of the OAR and a uniform dose distribution outside the protected region. Studies using shapers of different materials were also carried out and resulted in similar dose distributions. Additionally, the effect of protector’s parameters on the dose distribution in rotational therapy was studied in the thesis. A range of materials, consisting of commonly used for protection in radiotherapy, as well as by some new metal-polymer composites was under investigation. The metal-polymer composites can rival the lead in the protection of vital organs if the density provided is high. The presented technique has showed promising results in terms of conformal dose delivery and can be a preferred choice in radiotherapy departments due to comprehensive and adequate protection of the OAR and uniform dose in PTV ensured as well as of its cost effectiveness.
