Multiple vocies of the connection problems of different editions of elementary school text books.

Huang, Ya-yun 29 July 2008 (has links)
This study aims to investigate various and multiple viewpoints of scholars, textbook editors, elementary school teachers, and student parents on the connection issue between different editions of elementary school textbooks, so as to submit our conclusions and suggestions. The concrete purpose of this study is double: a) What are the multiple voices of the connection issue of different textbooks? b) How are these voices formed? In order to reach the above purpose, the research method is mainly qualitative method, complementing by quantitative method. The study subjects are three scholars, three editors of school textbooks, 18 elementary school teachers, and five student parents. We adopt interview method of qualitative research. According to the introductory interviews, the researchers compile preliminary questionnaire, which is distributed to 160 elementary school teachers in all the 16 counties and cities in the Taiwan area. The last open-end question allows the answerers to write down their opinions, which are then used as one part of data analysis of this study. Finally, we conduct our analysis and discussion by means of incessant comparative analysis and type analysis. Synthetically, we then produce the conclusions and suggestions of this study. The following are the conclusions we reached: 1. The connection between the formal outlines and the temporary ones of the nine-year-through consistent policy causes various connection problems of different editions years ago. Take math course for example. This course is being narrowed and regulated owing to the formal outlines' annual details, which, though brings out a converging agreement, still causes some connection problems, though fewer. Even though connection problems remain, teachers should manage to reduce the problems to the minimum when conducting their teachings, so as to make the teachings more favorably. 2. Because of poor understanding towards the present nine-year-through consistent policy curricula outlines, elementary school teachers can not explain the connection problems to the student parents clearly, which makes the latter take dubious stance towards this issue. The nature of elementary school curricula is of the class of starting point of Burner's spiral curriculum; furthermore, the teaching units are circular through the six years. Thus, the negligent and omitting elements can be redressed to some point. On the other hand, whether students' learning contents are negligent or not will be redressed by the "feedback loop" to rectify the teaching objects and complement the teaching materials. 3. Elementary school teachers with teaching experience less than five years are mostly inexperienced teachers who don't understand the curricula outlines. From our interviews we realize that all kinds of selection tests almost never touch issues concerning curricula outlines. Under this vein, the chance to understand the curricula outlines is relatively meager, which is a warning and chasm for elementary teaching staff cultivation curricula. 4. The connection problems of different elementary textbook editions have something to do with the natures of curricula or fields. Curricula of artistic ability have less connection, which might have something to do with having no tests. "Having tests" tops all the connection issues of different elementary school textbooks. 5. The connection issues of different elementary school textbooks manifest the loose joining of "theory and practice" of teaching, which is the chief cause of the long-term negligence of the outcry of elementary school teachers who really do the teachings. On the one hand, the low professional status and image of elementary school teachers partly contribute to the above phenomenon. On the other hand, many elementary school teachers hold the belief that politics is behind education. In the long run, they feel inactive to all the educational issues. 6. Transfer students have to face horizontal transfer of different editions of their textbooks. Various levels of transfer problems occur because of different transfer times during the semester. But connection problems are not unsolvable. The joint cooperation between elementary school teachers and the publishers of elementary school textbooks still can patch up the chasm of connection.

The Study of the Relationship between Mother-in-laws and Daughter-in-laws of Taiwanese-Vietnamese Marriages

Chang, Chun-Man 23 January 2009 (has links)
As the number of foreign spouses is increasing in Taiwan, Taiwan government and scholars have paid more attention to the issue of life adaptation of foreign spouses in Taiwan. The relationship between mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws is littled concerned by scholars. This research works on the interactions between Vietnamese spouses and their mother-in-laws. Most foreign Vietnamese spouses live with husband¡¦s fathers and mothers in Taiwan after their marriages. Interactions between mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws are an important part of interdynamic family relationship, which generate influence on the harmony of their families. Thus, this research aimed at Vietnamese wivies, and on the basis of the development of interpersonal relationship, to further probe into the setting up and development of the relationship between Vietnamese spouses and Taiwanese mother-in-laws, and how Vietnam wivies face the conflict with their mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws. As for the research method, indepth interview is taken. Interviewer carries on deep interview with aimed persons under a guide of interview outlines of semi-structured interviews. Study samples were mainly Vietnamese spouses who have got married over two years, and at present live with their Taiwanese mother-in-laws in the Kaohsiung area. Through the way of purposive sampling and snowball sampling, eighteen Vietnamese wives are selected as the interviewing targets, and paid a visit to deeply investigate the subjective opinions of their mother-in-laws, the relationship-build process with mother-in-laws, how to keep the harmony between mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws, and how to face the conflicts between mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws. The research shows that the relationship between Vietnamese spouses and Taiwanese mother-in-laws roughly keep the harmonious state. And there are four significant themes during the relation-developing process between mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws, they are (1) ¡¥mother-in-laws take the initiative¡¦ is the first step to establish the relations with their daughter-in-laws. During the initial stage of this relationship, the attitude of mother-in-laws toward daughter-in-laws plays the main factor to influence the relationship in the future. (2) ¡¥The role playing¡¦ is the basis of maintaining the relationship between mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws. In daily life, the role playing is the main way to keep relationship harmonious between mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws. (3) The attitudes of mother-in-laws and husband¡¦s family could influence the relationship between mother-in-laws and daughter-in-laws, and lead to more familiar or stagnate. Due to Vietnamese spouses take the most frequently interactions with husband¡¦s family after coming to Taiwan, the attitudes of mother-in-laws and husband¡¦s family would influence the development of the relationship between moth-in-laws and daughter-in-laws. (4) As foreign spouses have married to Taiwan for a longer period of time, they would take more active ways than those newly married to Taiwanese husbands when encountering conflicts with mother-in-laws.

A comparison of S.C.E. and G.C.E. school qualifications as predictors of university performance

Diamond, Ian David January 1980 (has links)
The University of St. Andrews is unique in that one half of its intake has Scottish Certificate of Education (S.C.E.) qualifications and the other General Certificate of Education (G.C.E.) qualifications. Also, the S.C.E. qualified students have consistently been more likely to fail than have their G.C.E, qualified counterparts. The aim of this thesis is to develop a scale to compare S.C.E. and G.C.E. qualifications and to investigate some of the causes for the differential performance. The first part of the thesis considers whether the level of failure at St. Andrews is higher than that at other universities and then reviews the varied literature on academic performance to assess the potential relevance of a number of variables as predictors of performance. It has been common iii educational research to adopt linear weightings for S.C.E. and G.C.E. grades in statistical analyses. The next section investigates the linear weights and finds chat, at St. Andrews, they may be improved upon. An alternative scoring system is developed and a model to estimate an entrant's probability of failure constructed. Thirdly some qualitative reasons for the differential in performance are examined through two surveys: one of the academic and social experiences of the students' first year, and the other of the reasons given by students for choosing an ordinary degree. Finally, some suggestions are made regarding possible improvements in procedures for monitoring student progress and of the potential for improving the assistance offered to new students to help them to complete successfully a degree course.

Características agronômicas do milho sob diferentes arranjos espaciais e densidades de plantas em região de cerrado /

Ferreira, João Paulo. January 2012 (has links)
Contudo, houve efeito de regressão para o incremento da população, havendo maior rendimento na população de 100.000 plantas ha-1, com produtividade 10.410 kg ha-1 / Abstract:The reduction in row spacing and the adoption of the highest densities of plants has been the subject of study by many researchers, given that the new genotypes introduced to the market are more productive, with architecture of plants and lower-sized upright leaves, with greater use environmental factors of light, water and nutrients, justifying a possible increase in crop yield. The study was conducted in of Selvíria-MS Brazil, in alic Dystrophic Red Latosol, clay texture. The experimental design was randomized blocks with four replications in a factorial scheme (5x2x2), with five populations (40,000, 55,000, 70,000, 85,000 and 100,000 plants ha-1) and two row spacings (45 and 90 cm) and two soil preparation (tillage and conventional), by using the hybrid corn. No significant effects for most traits evaluated in relation to the spacing of 45 and 90 cm between rows. There were differences in leaf area index in these characters analyzed in tillage and spacing in both stages (V-6and V-T). In relation to grain yield, there were no significant differences by a factor score of 45 and 90 cm between rows. However, there was regression effect to increase the population, with higher income in the population of 100.000 plants ha-1 with production of 10.410 kg ha-1 / Mestre

Living in the in-between as an Ismaili Muslim woman: an autoethnography

Gulamhusein, Shemine Alnoor 30 April 2018 (has links)
This autoethnographic research project explores how a first-generation Canadian Ismaili Muslim, grapples with the tensions of belonging and identity while living in the in-between spaces of multiple social locations. Using an intersectional third-wave feminist approach, a method I term “third-wave dervish”, I metaphorically spin in a similar manner to a whirling dervish. Each spin provokes a round of critical reflection grounded in a node of intersect. Throughout the dance, how each node of intersect – religion and spirituality, geographical location, ethnicity and culture, and gender – implicates the in-between spaces I find myself located within, on the periphery of, and wavering between is explored. Narratives from my early years, adolescence, as a young adult in a graduate classroom, and as a young practitioner serve as data. For the first time, during re-iterations of memories, experiences of being minoritized and racialized are acknowledged and I begin to challenge gender binaries and offer insight into how I unknowingly negotiated and navigated complex social spaces. Personal experiences and reflections are then translated beyond the self to offer insight into how human and social development practitioners can use the key findings of how a brown-bodied female moved through childhood, adolescence, and young adulthood. The dissertation offers suggestions for practitioners to actively engage in, understand, and respond to children and youth’s verbal and non-verbal responses to experiences they are having. In addition, the text outlines the benefit of and ways in which practitioners may encourage difficult conversations with clients who are minoritized, and how to foster safe spaces for children, youth, and young adults to explore their sense of belonging and identity. / Graduate
