The Impact of Leader¡¦s Integrity Character on the Effec- tiveness of Organization Change --- A Case of Formosa Plastics Corporation, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, and Macronix International

Lai, Shih-Chung 02 February 2007 (has links)
The Impact of Leader¡¦s Integrity Character on the Effectiveness of Organization Change --- A Case of Formosa Plastics Corporation, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, and Macronix International Student : Lai, Shih-Chung Advisor : Dr. Huang , Jason H. National Sun Yat¡V Sen University Department of Business Management Abstract Integrity is one of the key factors to organizational change and it long standing. It is also a highly emphasized issue in corporate governance. Across the world, business misconducts that have caused severe consequences to the economy and society are increasing each day, and the level of trust on the businesses worsens after each event. The objective of this study is to investigate the impact of the integrity orientation of the leaders on organizational change, on the innovation which leads to a new stage of growth. The study is conducted through literature review and case analyses. I probe into the factors that impact the effectiveness of organization change. The study focused on the leader's character of integrity. The findings are as follow. 1.Integrity character bears a high degree of influence on the organization change process. The more intense the changes, the more it should be initiated from the top down, and the more important is the leadership. 2.The strength of crisis consciousness drives organization change, and further the demand on leader¡¦s integral character, no matter it's a stable enterprise or the one under change. 3.The best prediction model for the integrity character of leaders is the long term coworker observation. The same model would apply for selecting and fostering successors. 4.By observing the consistency between leader's oral expression and actual behavior is sufficiently indicative of the suitability of the lesders. 5.There are three critical dimensions of the character of integrity, which this study referred to as the three components of integrity, that is, ¡§righteousness and the belief of integrity¡¨,¡§consistency in thought and words¡¨, and ¡§consistency between words and behaviors¡¨. ¡iKeyword¡j¡G Integrity Character, Organizational change, Righteousness , Integrity, Consistency between Thought and Words, Consistency between Words and Behaviors.

Political use and consequences of sport events / Political use and consequences of sport events

Rybka, Pauline Johanna January 2013 (has links)
In the theory part of this thesis will examine the connection between politics and sport, including the politicization of major sport events and the particular role of non-democratic states as host nations. In the empirical part, three case studies (Summer Olympics Beijing 2008, Winter Olympics Sochi 2014, and FIFA World Cup Qatar 2018) will be analyzed in the light of how they have influenced (or have the potential to influence) reforms, the adoption of democratic structures, and the human rights situation.

Thieme Andersson, Malin, Hultqvist, Sandra January 2016 (has links)
ABSTRACT Background: Malnutrition is a frequent and serious problem in health care, on average, every third patient malnourished. At a hospital in central Sweden routines are that in-between-meal should be served, but each ward will be responsible to have it served. To increase the serving of in between meals at ward 1 a intervention was conducted in November 2015. Objective: The purpose of the study was that through a point prevalence survey, Day Nutrition, measure the degree to which patients on the orthopedic wards 1 and 2 at achieves calculated energy intake at a hospital in central Sweden. And see if the intervention of the serving of in-between-meal has helped more in-between-meal have been served on ward 1. The study will also look at how well departments are following the routine for risk assessment of patients for malnutrition at enrollment and follow-up to the care plans. Method: A point prevalence survey was conducted on wards 1 and 2 for one day. During the survey the number of served in-between-meal and risk assessments were measured. Results: The results showed that only four patients achieved an energy intake of more than 75 % of the wards 1 and 2, differences in energy intake between wards occurred after in-between-meal intervention. The intervention may have contributed to a number of more served in-between-meal. Only 8 % of patients were risk assessed at enrollment. Conclusion: The study's main results show that the majority of patients do not achieve an energy intake more than 75 %. The reasons for a low percentage of patients going into an energy intake greater than 75 % is probably due to many different factors. Intervention in November 2015 may have contributed to an increase of in-between-meal have been served since the preliminary measurement, and that staff received inspiration and guidance in the work of nutrition for there patients. To further determine what can be done to increase the patients' energy intake needs the research that already exists be implemented in clinical care.

Erotic feelings of trainee counselling psychologists towards their clients : an interpretative phenomenological exploration

Theodosiou, Eleni January 2014 (has links)
Aims: This study explores trainee counselling psychologists’ erotic feelings towards their clients and their responses to those feelings. The influences that help shape trainees’ reactions as well as the support systems they utilize to deal with the erotic are examined.︣Design: The participants’ narratives were analysed using Smith’s (1995) Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis.︣Procedure: The data were collected in semi-structured interviews with six trainee counselling psychologists who were attracted towards a client at least on one occasion.︣Results: A total of 29 themes were deemed of particular importance and relevance to the topic under investigation. The emergent themes were organized into 3 master themes: (i) attributes of erotic attraction; (ii) impact or erotic attraction; (iii) management of erotic attraction.︣Conclusions: The results of this study emphasize the need for increased awareness, comprehensive training and systematic research on matters of the erotic within therapeutic encounters. Erotic attraction seemed to have a profound impact on the participants’ intrapersonal and interpersonal being as it touched upon their feelings, thoughts, personal identity, professional identity, everydayness, and clinical work. The majority of trainees believed that their inability to deal with their attraction appropriately had a marked negative impact upon therapeutic relationship, process, and outcome. All participants considered their experience, however, a major learning point as it allowed them to an extent to redefine their intentions, motives, and expectations as professionals and human beings. All participants used supervision, personal therapy, peer consultation, literature, and theoretical constructs to process and understand their attraction with varying degrees of success. Training programs and clinical placements seem to contribute to mismanagement of attraction by failing to lift the taboo off the erotic, by neglecting to address these issues explicitly in their curriculum, and by nurturing unrealistically high standards of conducting therapy. This study suggests that the erotic has an ontological and ontic significance which could be fully explored by adopting an existential counselling psychology paradigm or by adding an element of existential observation and understanding to any other approach.

Öst, Ann-Sofie January 2006 (has links)
<p>The aim of this essay is to analyze the relationship between the title and the music in a selec-tion of piano pieces by Torsten Petre. Based on the work list, a categorization of the piano titles has been made and the categories have been named ”emotions, moods and minds”, ”na-ture”, ”mankind”, ”dances and similar titles”, ”supernatural beings, fairy creatures and popu-lar belief”, ”foreign countries and foreign culture”, ”nationalism and tradition”, ”artifacts”, and ”miscellaneous”. Two pieces from the category ”emotions, moods and minds” Skizzer för piano, third series Op. 38, 1905 have been chosen: no 2 Svikna drömmar and no 6 Mörka stunder. See appendix 1 for the work list and appendix 2 for the categorization.</p><p>As a background to the analysis, a biography about Torsten Petre as a musician and composer has been written. The background also consists of a description of the bourgeois salon, an environment in which his music was played, as well as of salon music as a genre.</p><p>As there is no established method for analyzing the relationship between title and music, I have based the analysis on Benestad´s thoughts about how we perceive music. I have carried out the analysis using the piano and playing the piano pieces repeatedly until I felt that I could describe the relationship. The analysis shows that using the title as a guideline there is a clear recognition between the title and music, which can be described thoroughly, almost like a story.</p>

Differences in Depression, Anxiety, and Life Satisfaction between Intercollegiate Athletes, Intramural Participants, and Non-Athletes

Wilson, Megan 01 October 2016 (has links)
It is widely supported that participation in athletics is positively correlated with increased overall health. However, some research indicates that participation in increased levels of competition is positively correlated with higher levels of depression and anxiety. This means, that if compared, athletes competing nationally or internationally would report higher levels of both depression and anxiety than athletes competing at the intercollegiate level. Research indicates that this could be caused by increased amounts of pressure, personal cost, and expectation. This study examines potential differences between intercollegiate, intramural, and non-athletes in these areas on a college campus. The first hypothesis is that depression symptoms will be more present in intercollegiate athletes than in intramural participants. The second hypothesis states that anxiety symptoms will be more prevalent in intercollegiate athletes than in intramural participants. The third hypothesis states that life satisfaction will be greater in intramural participants than in intercollegiate athletes. Lastly, the fourth hypothesis states that perceived social support and athletic identity will mediate the relationship between level of athletic participation and psychopathology. Participants in this study gave informed consent, completed a demographics questionnaire, and scales measuring depression and anxiety, life satisfaction, athletic identity, and perceived social support. The participants were recruited from intercollegiate teams, intramural teams, and psychology courses at Western Kentucky University. The first and second hypotheses were not supported since intramural participants did not have significantly different levels of depression compared to intercollegiate athletes and non-athletes. Results revealed intramural participants are more satisfied with life than intercollegiate and non-athletes, which supports the third hypothesis. The results also revealed that life satisfaction is mediated by both athletic identity and perceived social support, which shows partial support for the fourth hypothesis. The fourth hypothesis was not supported for depression and anxiety because these factors did not have significant differences between the groups so finding a mediating factor was not possible.

Balancing act: An investigation of the in-between space used by selected contemporary artists in South Africa

Watson, Deirdre 17 November 2006 (has links)
Faculty of Humanities School of Arts 0317536k b_balancing_act@yahoo.com / After endless contemplation on the idea of ‘word and image’, the following expression of J.W.T Mitchell in Word and Image (1996: 56) brought insight: ‘[W]ord and image’… a pair of terms whose relations open a space of intellectual struggle, historical investigation, and artistic/critical practice. Our only choice is to explore this space (own emphasis). I shifted my position from the forlorn act of peeling to one of creative exploration. Not necessarily exploring the specific space between word and image, but rummaging ‘the space between’; always hovering amid opposites. This space provides an opportunity to confront and debate the many issues that stem from the relations formed in its fluidity. It is a space that informs my thinking. It is a space of conversation. I see not only my writing, but also the art that I scrutinize as conversation. My conversation is captured in the linear structure of this thesis, but the conversation of art is dynamic. It is informal and flexible – following not one path, offering no answer, giving the potential at each moment for surprises and transformation. The idea is to ponder contemporary art’s dialogue, the manipulators thereof and the indispensable factors constituting this notion: space, grammar, medium, criticism. The notion of dialogue assumes a listener, a participant, an audience. But who is this audience with whom ideas are conversed, and what language do you (presumably) use to communicate the necessary? I have chosen to investigate these questions, the purpose and plan of art, with relation to a selected group of artists: an individual, Terry Kurgan and a collective – Stephen Hobbs, Marcus Neustetter and Kathryn Smith, known as The Trinity Session.

The improvement of relations between the administration and the citizens in French and Iraqi laws (comparative study)

Awad, Farkad 06 July 2017 (has links)
The improvement of relations between the administration and the citizens remains a subject of study valid at all times because it is in perpetual becoming. It can be approached in many ways, but we have chosen to focus on the issues that we believe are the most important and therefore deserve to be examined and deepened. It is not surprising to note that the level of approach to this matter, its perception by governments and jurisdictions, differs depending on whether one is interested in the French case or the Iraqi situation. Our aim is therefore to identify as much as possible the advantages that the French system generates for the benefit of citizens and then to discern the elements of the latter which could be transposed to the Iraqi administrative system. The aim of this research is to propose a critical estimation of the various objects that constitute the relationship between the citizens and their administration and an appeal to the Iraqi officials to concern themselves with establishing a real reform of the latter.

Comparative studies between difference and differential equations with emphasis on logistic model

Alqahtani, Amani 01 July 2016 (has links)
This study compares the behavior of differential equations and difference equations of various orders in order to predict the state of the systems at a given time by using initial information about the system. We have demonstrated that differential equations are used in a continuous domain whereas difference equations are employed for discrete dynamical systems. Furthermore, the difference between the two models is amplified in logistic models which both are known to give explicit solutions. However, the discrete logistic model is especially superior in exhibiting a chaotic behavior of the system which the differential equation is incapable of dealing with. The conclusions drawn from the findings conform the similarities and the stark differences between these two models.

Medeiros, Rosana Fachel de January 2010 (has links)
The present work investigates how childhood and masculinity are presented in the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants from the analysis of the interaction of audio and visual languages. In order to conduct a detailed and careful study were selected six episodes for the series for, based on them, investigate and discuss the themes. As theoretical support referring to media and cartoons studies were used texts FUSARI, FERRÉS, FISCHER, PILLAR. On the issues of childhood were used texts of ARIÉS, CORAZZA, POSTMAN, KUHLMANN. To deepen the discussion about masculinity and gender relations were important the texts of CONNELL, LOURO, FELIPE. And to guide the semiotic analysis were used texts referring to semiotic and discursive syncretism: BARROS, FLOCH, GREIMAS, LANDOWSKI, OLIVEIRA and FANTINATTI, MÉDOLA, TEIXEIRA. This research revealed the contemporaneity of SpongeBob both on the erasure of boundaries between childhood and adulthood, as in relation to nonstereotypical representation of male and female.
