Via språket kommer makten : En intervjustudie om introduktionsförskolans betydelse för nyanlända utifrån en sociokulturell analys / Through language comes power : An interview study about the effect that introductory pre-schools have for immigrants from a sociocultural analysis perspective

Jigvall, Mikaela, Widenberg, Annie January 2018 (has links)
According to United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR 2016) was 65,6 million people fleeing around the world due to various conflicts and wars during 2016, in which more than half was below 18 years old. The pre-school as an institution could be the first contact newly arrived immigrants have with the Swedish society. Areas that are under socioeconomic pressure and vulnerability tend to lead to fewer children attending pre-school compared to stronger socioeconomic areas. This study has involved people and their experience of an introductory pre-school from diffrent perspectives that is located in a socioeconomic pressured suburb of Stockholm. The intention with introductory pre-schools is to decrease the gap in the society by supporting the integration of newly arrived immigrants. The purpose of this study is to examine different experiences about the impact introductory pre-schools have for integrating newly arrived immigrants to society. This is a qualitative semi-structured interview study in which pedagogues, parents and the head of the introductory pre-school have been interviewed. The result of the study indicates the importance of the role introductory pre-schools hold for newly arrived immigrants by breaking isolation and ease integration, where learning the Swedish language is identified as an important stepping stone.
