Previous issue date: 2004-02-18 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / The dissertation is addressed to a special and unsolved problem in the description of Israel´s religious development. In Old Testament texts about the human sacrifices,
there are autonomous literary units regarding the mOlek cult. However, some scholars claim that the mOlek cult has not such character. The dissertation aspires to scrutinize
this argument, focusing on historical sources (2Kings 16,3; 17,17.31; 21,6; 23,10). Discussing ugaritic sources two deities list and one funerary text , we will inquiry about the characteristics of mlK deities at cannanite cultures. Briefly, the mOlek is a ctonic deity but it is not a recipient of human sacrifices.(AU) / A dissertação é dirigida a um especial e não resolvido problema na descrição do desenvolvimento religioso de Israel.

_________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT / A reflection about the language and the narrative strategies of the contemporary documentary cinema is the purpose of this project. The research is carried out from the analysis of the Israeli full-length film Waltz with Bashir (2008), which became a milestone in the nonfiction history by radicalizing tendencies which had been constituted on the borderline of the classical postulates of the nonfiction cinematography for decades, embodied, especially, in styles like the direct cinema and the cinéma vérité. The film directed by Ari Folman comes up with an excursion throughout the depths of character’s memories, building up its storyline through their subjectivities. Thereby, it brings unusual elements like dreams, hallucinations and recollections replete of trauma and guilt to the documentary’s realistic discourse. More than that, Waltz with Bashir gives life to these intangible elements, depicting it on the imagery reality through animation techniques, structuring a story where the factual world and the imaginary one mix and switch among themselves chaotically. All this considering as background one of the most infamous episodes of the six decades of clashes between Israelis and Palestinians in the Holy Land: the massacre of Sabra and Chatila during the Lebanon War in 1982. By exposing the former soldiers pain and recognizing the Palestinian tragedy, Waltz with Bashir approaches to significant part of the current cinematography produced in Israel, characterized by presenting alternative points of view about the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The modern treatment of cholera under active service conditions, being an account of an outbreak at Tiberias in 1918Clark, Thomas Lindsay January 1921 (has links)
The Cholera outbreak at Tiberias on the Sea of Galilee in Oct., 1918, that I am about to describe was of great importance from a military point of view. Consequently, the author and a bacteriologist, (Capt. A. Compton, R.A.M.C., O.C. 32 Mobile Laboratory) were dispatched to the scene of the outbreak in order to investigate the conditions and, in short, to adopt any measures possible to suppress the epidemic. The matter was of considerable urgency. Tiberias lay on the direct line of communication for troops operating in the Damascus area, and it was essential that all reinforcements and food supplies pass through the town. The hilly nature of the country, the arid soil, the daily extremes of temperature at that season of the year - for the days were hot and the nights bitterly cold - the deficient and defective water supply - all these factors had a bearing upon the health of the troops and the nature of the problem. Had Cholera spread at that critical period to any great extent it might have brought, what proved to be, one of the most brilliant feats in military history, to an untimely close.
