The thesis, Financing of Small Municipalities in the Czech Republic and its Political Impact, reflects a complex topic currently noticeable in the Czech Republic: the existence of critically indebted small municipalities. According to the yearly monitoring provided by the Ministry of Finance, the number of ill-financed communities is increasing. Due to their financial situation, a considerable number of small municipalities are forced to suspend many of the services provided to the residents, even though the legislation in effect guarantees equal competences for both small and big municipalities. In the case of indebted small municipalities, the difficulties are even multiplied. Often, the municipality is forced to abandon the prospect of further development and mere survival is in question. In the above- described communities, the participation in municipal politics tends to be significantly low and the residents express overall disinterest in public affairs. The aim of this work is to present three examples of highly indebted small municipalities with the number of citizens under 500 and to provide a detailed analysis on their situation. Subject of this thesis is to evaluate effectivity of Strategic plan of social integration in the town of Jáchymov. Thesis is focused on the process of planning and effectivity of measures suggested in Strategic plan. Beside the main focus it also assesses the overall social situation of Jáchymov. It collects and describes activities aiming on social integration. It describes and evaluates the process of design and implementation of strategic plan. Connection of both areas provides a better insight into the whole topic. Based on the results of research this thesis provides possible measures to improve the quality of planning process of social services and to improve the living conditions of Jáchymov's inhabitants. This thesis can serve as a guideline to initiate proceses associated with social services planning or community activities planning. (in English): This work deals with the formation of party historiography in fifties and sixties of the twentieth century. It examines this issue in two ways. The first level is the institutionalization of party historiography at Faculty of Arts of Charles University. Establishment, development and abolition of the department of the History of the Communist party (History of Working class movement) is explored with focusing on key turning points in 1953 (establishment of the department), 1958 (restriction of teaching staff), 1964 (reorganization, merger and establishment of the department of the History of Working class movement) and 1970 (abolition of the department). Teaching staff is examined and attention is paid to the efforts to create typological profile of chair historians, who were part of emerging generation of party historians. The second level of the research is the participation of party historians in shaping and formulating new historical narratives, that provided legitimazing framework of communist project to social transformation. Thermal waters in Karlovy Vary are characterized by carbonate sedimentation in places of their emergence. These sediments contain radium. Radium bond in every type of sinter (aragonite, calcite) has been investigated experimentally by acid sinter dissolution. It has been found out, that radium can join dissoluble fraction in both sinter types . The original hypothesis that radium can bond only aragonite-type of sinter has been refuted. Additional experiments have been processed using synthetic radiobarite. Present radium in radiobarite can be partly dissoluted using acids. If radium was incorporated in radiobarite (it is known from locality Vřídlo in Karlovy Vary and elsewhere) then maybe it would be partly dissoluted in experiments.

The topic of this thesis is ``Music therapy in Karlovy Vary Region{\crqq}. As the topic itself says, this work concentrates on music therapy as a valuable form of psychotherapy. A theoretical part of this thesis contains description of the history of music therapy and treatment by means of music. Apart from that, the theoretical part deals with an impact of music on people. It is also focused on positive and negative impact of music and sounds. The author describes various kinds and forms of music therapy. In the introductory part of this work the author concentrates on the area of music therapy and then he concerns with the common use of music therapy, including its division into particular target groups affected by music. The end of theoretical part concerns with methods and techniques in music therapy, where some of which were also used practically, as was finally proved by rersearch. The author oriented his research towards the use of music therapy in the Karlovy Vary Region, as it is claimed in the name of this thesis. The aim of this thesis is to find out whether the addressed instutitions of social services have encountered music therapy, and in what extent is music therapy carried out in the Karlovy Vary Region. In addition to research the author led music therapy meetings with seniors in České Budějovice, and Karlovy Vary. Techniques and experiences from this practice are described in the part of results and they are backed up with photo-documentation.

Résumé This thesis examines the situation at three Czech universities in 1947 - 1950, Charles University in Prague, Masaryk University in Brno and Palacky University in Olomouc. To have an event around February 1948 to describe and then compare, it was necessary to go back to the time shortly after the Second World War, as the post-war development has undoubtedly influence on events in the following period. After the war the University had to deal with personnel and material losses. Many professors on their teaching and research space not returned, many of them died under the Nazi terror. Dismal state of buildings, which were mainly bombing explosions or other damage, especially to address Masaryk University, Brno. Directly after the war dealt University in Prague and Brno employee personnel cleansing of collaborators and people otherwise guilty against the state and national honor. Most affected was the Brno University. Another problem occurred when an enormous interest among young people in the study, due to the closure of Czech universities by the Nazis in the autumn of 1939 (in 1945). The dissertation Topic of popular music in the local press of contemporary Karlovy Vary region in the period 1957 - 1967 attempts to capture the process of official views presented in the regional press between the years 1957 - 1967 in the territory of today's Karlovy Vary Region on various genres of modern music, represented by mainstream dance music which later evolved into popular music. Articles, reviews and critiques relevant to modern music published in newspapers in area of Karlovy Vary and specialist publications dedicated to particular cultural issues in the region was used for the research. Furthermore, it was primarily jazz and rock music in Czechoslovakia known as big beat (bigbít). The introduction deals with the theoretical and methodological issues appropriate to the topic and their possible use. The next part deals with the social and cultural context in Czechoslovakia at that time, the influence of ideology on culture and simultaneously on releasing in art and society during the 1960s. The diploma thesis deals with cultural and social life of the German minority in the Czech lands with the focus on its development in the Karlovy Vary border region since 1989. The study is based on an analysis of the German minority press, especially the periodicals Aufbau und Frieden, Prager Volkszeitung, Landeszeitung, LandesEcho and Eghaland Bladl, and a research survey based on interviews with members of the German minority and questionnaires addressed to the representatives of local authorities of the towns in which the research took place. First of all, the basic concepts and minority policy at the national and international levels are defined. Next, the thesis concentrates on the historical and legislative development and social-demographic situation of the German minority in the Czech lands after 1945. The next part of the thesis discusses the development of the cultural and social life of the German minority in the Czech lands and closely characterizes four main areas - organization activity, cultural and social activity, language situation and media. These four areas are explored within the research survey in the main part of the thesis. The aim is to analyze the development of the cultural and social life of the German minority in the Karlovy Vary Region, and to depict the current status.

(in English) The master thesis describes formation and activities of the Geographical Library of the Faculty of Science of the Charles University in Prague (http//www.natur.cuni.cz/geografie/knihovna/). The thesis deals with the formation of the library in the 1880s and outlines its development to the present. The focus of this work is to describe the current situation and outline the anticipated direction of the library's development in the coming years. Emphasis is placed on the growing importance of the Geographical Library as one of the most distinctive information institutes of the Faculty of Science, as well as the gradual introduction and use of new technologies and finally on cooperation with other information and academic institutions. In addition, all the program units (that are in use in the library) of the automated library system Aleph 500 are described.
